Dr. Om Prakash Maingi, 94, led a protest march by seniors.

As a young man, he had also participated in 1953 Praja Parishad protests led by SP Mookerjee.

Addressing the gathering of youth and kids, he said that at this stage of his life he wants to live to see the day of their victory. He said unlike last time, when the movement did not succeed, this time the fight is started by the blessings of Amarnath Himself, and victory would therefore be on their side and all injustice will end. Appealing to those who are committing suicides, he said there is no need to become desperate. Youth should strengthen the movement by living and fighting rather than dying and weakening the movement which is what enemies want anyways. Dying is no solution he said. He also warned people to watch out against the traitors.

जम्मू: प्रजा परिषद के एक विधान, एक निशान, एक प्रधान के 1953 के आंदोलन में भाग ले चुके करीब बीस बुजुर्गों ने अमरनाथ श्राइन बोर्ड भूमि के समर्थन में अब की हमारी बारी के नारे के साथ गिरफ्तारी दी। इन बुजुर्गो का नेतृत्व 94 वर्षीय डा. ओम प्रकाश मैंगी कर रहे थे। बुजुर्गों का जोश देखते ही बनता था। सिटी थाने में गिरफ्तारी देने से पूर्व अपने संबोधन में बुजुर्गों ने कहा कि इस आंदोलन का अंत जम्मू की जीत के साथ होना चाहिए। इससे पहले के आंदोलनों में बेशक जम्मू के साथ न्याय नहीं हुआ है, लेकिन इस बार उन्हें विश्र्वास है कि जीत न्याय की होगी। डा. ओम प्रकाश मैंगी ने प्रदर्शनकारियों को सचेत किया कि आंदोलन को समाप्त करने के लिए कई तरह के प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं लेकिन किसी के बहकावे में आने की जरूरत नहीं है। यह विश्वास रखें कि बम बम भोले हमेशा सच्चाई के साथ हैं। जीत के साथ ही आंदोलन की समाप्ति हो तो उन्हें लगेगा कि जम्मू के लोगों का संघर्ष कभी बेकार नहीं जाएगा। अमरनाथ भूमि के लिए संघर्ष कर रहे लोगों को उन्होंने कहा कि आत्म हत्या से किसी समस्या का समाधान नहीं होगा। इससे आंदोलन कमजोर होगा। आत्म हत्या करने के बजाए अपने हक के लिए लड़ने से ही जीत मिलेगी। बुजुर्गो ने कहा कि वह तन मन से आंदोलन के लिए समर्पित हैं।
