Legend says that Kamalavalli being a daughter of NandhaChozhan ,king of Uraiyur got married to Lord Vishnu in Srirangam. In memory of the marriage Azhagiya Manavalar ,kamalavalli nachiyar temple was built by Nandhachozhan at uraiyur. One other legend says that a hen (kozhi) defeated an elephant hence the name Thirukkozhi.
