Maya at it again, stalls Rahulâs meetQUOTEThe political animosity between the Congress and the BSP touched a new low on Friday when the Mayawati Government cancelled Rahul Gandhiâs visit to Kanpur Agriculture University and also denied security to the Gandhi scion for almost an hour.
Enraged over the Governmentâs move, UP Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi called it a âconspiracy to kill Rahul Gandhiâ. She said: âOn the instructions of the Government, the programme was forcibly cancelled. Security was removed abruptly just to ensure that Rahul could not meet the students.â
The Special Protection Group accompanying Rahul Gandhi has also lodged a complaint with SSP Kanpur for not providing sufficient security to Rahul Gandhi at Chandra Shekhar Azad Agriculture University, where he was supposed to have an interaction with students.
The proposed meeting was, however, cancelled at the behest of the State Government at the last minute. Vice-Chancellor VK Suri confirmed that the proposed interaction session between Rahul Gandhi and students was cancelled but he refused to cite any reason.
The Government spokesman, however, denied that the Government cancelled Rahulâs meeting. âThe university administration might have cancelled the meeting as neither the Government nor the district administration were involved in granting permission to Rahul Gandhi to hold a meeting,â the spokesman said in a release issued in Lucknow.
