In one of the kathas narrated on Ganapati pooja day, there is one in which the gods had asked Shiva who should get the primacy of worship between his two sons? So Shiva says one who makes a pligrimage to all the sacred palces and returns the earliest. So Kumara takes off on his vahana and Ganapati is dejected and asks for a solution as he is heavy and ponderous on his vahana. Then Shiva tells him to circumnambulate around both the parents with Bhakti and he would have the punya of visting all those sacred places. Ganapati does that and Kumara sees him leaving all the places he was visiting. He returns crest fallen and ask forgiveness for putting himslef as a candidate against his elder brother. The gods then offer the primacy to Ganapati since then. They feed him a lot of tsuff and you know the rest of the story....
