Nayak, who was contesting from Prithvipur constituency, was shot in the neck by Congress MLA Brijendra Singh Rathoreâs brother Yashpal Singh Rathore in the Naya Khera area of the constituency.
Inspector General of Police (Sagar Range) K.N. Tiwari said two bullets pierced Nayak's neck and thigh. His gunman also received a bullet in his thigh. Both Nayak and his gunman were referred to Jhansi hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
