Do you have any source for this? I too suspect death toll will reach at least 500. But Indian govt will try to shoosh that up.

Cant say the source (petty trader, newspaper delivery man) is very reliable. In his words, "khoon ki nadi bah rahi hai, hazaar se kam nahi ho sakta". Maybe some exaggeration is there, but the other factors do not make this value impossible.
Again, for the first ever time, our leaders appeared to display some real sense of shock instead of the usual parroting. This is the strong evidence for me.
