NDAâs Prime Ministerial candidate LK Advani on Saturday said a future Government of his alliance,<b> if voted to power, would enact a law to make it mandatory for every Indian citizen to have a Multipurpose National Identity Card </b>(MNIC).
<b>âWe promise to complete the MNIC rollout within three years of taking office,â Advani said, pointing out that this facility would remove the need for ordinary citizens to carry multiple identification documents and will enable law enforcement agencies to do an instant check and validation of anyone's identity.</b> <!--emo&:cool--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/specool.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='specool.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The senior BJP leader said security was one of the main concerns for making national identity cards mandatory, as the country was facing a grave challenge in the infiltration from Bangladesh and other neighbouring countries. <b>âThere are more than two crore Bangladeshi immigrants staying illegally in the country,â </b>Advani pointed out.
The MNIC, which has found a detailed mention in Advaniâs vision document for the use of Information Technology in transforming India, will also get a place in the BJP's election manifesto and the NDA's national agenda for governance.
âWe will come out with a separate manifesto of the BJP to reiterate our commitment to ideological issues. Murli Manohar Joshi is preparing the document,â Advani told reporters here.
<b>It was expected that controversial issues like Article 370, Uniform Civil Code and Ram Temple which will not get a place in the NDAâs common minimum programme, may find mention in the BJP's manifesto.</b>
The BJPâs manifesto would dispel the popular assumption that the BJP has left behind many issues that played crucial role in its phenomenal growth in the last two decades.
