Ultimately, the BJP’s future and, for that matter, the course of Indian politics may well be shaped by the party’s inclination and ability to change with the times. With little prospects in the near future of replacing the Congress as the single dominant party, the BJP is faced with the difficult task of swallowing its pride and give up its fantasy of a bipolar duel. Instead, the party stands a far better chance of developing its regional assets which will undoubtedly keep the BJP in play in national politics. The failure to come to terms with these contemporary realities, however harsh, could mean further marginalisation and decline of the party.
