Yes, transfer of the source code and aiding in its detailed study is an absolute must. BTW, some people say from experience that some of the MMRCA contendors could well carry disruptive functionalities (like Trojan Horses, and other hardware devices) which cannot be detected by doing a differential power analysis (or side channel analysis, or any other investigative test) even if the source code is provided. The reason being the sheer complexity of the system. This is of course a matter of opinion.
