Somebody @ Huffington Post argues as below:

Why not argue then that it is wrong to make Muslims pay zakat just because they are Muslims, and say we should ask them to pay jizya instead like everyone else? This is just an argument over semantics. In any case if the dhimmis were being made to pay zakat instead you could then say that they are having Muslim religious requirements forced on them
