Women killed for dancing at wedding: reports

Four women in Pakistan's volatile north-west have reportedly been killed for singing and dancing at a wedding.



A video, which reports claim was shot at the wedding, shows a group of women draped in robes and head scarves sitting on the floor of a mud hut singing and clapping while one man dances and another films.



Villagers said the women were killed not long after the footage was recorded but local officials deny the claim, the BBC reports.



The men who appeared in the video faced a court on Wednesday charged with inciting tribal violence.



The women failed to appear in court but local officials insist the women are still alive.



The video was reportedly shot around two months ago in the Kohistan district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.



The scenes sparked the ire of tribal elders, who allegedly issued a decree authorising the women's death because their dancing had dishonoured their families.



On Wednesday the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa suggested that human rights groups and officials set up a commission to probe the alleged murders.



He said local customs prohibiting women to travel in male company or face questions from male members of a judicial bench would hinder the investigation.
