City outfits adopt Simi
Hyderabad, April 6: Former Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi) cadres are taking refuge with city-based Tahreek Tahafuz Shaer-e-Islam (TTSI) and Darsgah Jihad-o-Shahadat (DJS), police teams that went to Madhya Pradesh to interrogate some activists have discovered. On March 26, joint teams of Intelligence Bureau and Special Task Force arrested 13 Simi activists from Pithampur in MP. These activists were interrogated by the city police teams.
Simi was active in the city but the police remained oblivious of their activities. âThe recruitment and training modules of Simi have changed drastically. The MP operation brought these things to the fore,â the official said. Police found that three activists, Safdar Nagori, Qamruddin Nagori and Adnan, arrested in MP, had frequently visited Hyderabad. âThe trio reveres Abdul Aleem Islahi, the father of Mohtisam Billa,â a senior police official told this correspondent.
Billa was arrested for his links with Simi and other terror elements. âThe trio regularly visited the Islahi family and Moulana Naseeruddin in the city,â said the official. âWhat shocked us was the way these families provided logistics for Simi cadres,â he added. Islahi runs a madarasa in Saidabad while Moulana Naseeruddin is lodged in the Sabarmati jail in Gujarat for alleged conspiracy in the Haren Pandya murder case. Moulana Naseeruddin is also the founder of TTSI. âSimi cadres have joined the TTSI and DJS to carry out their activities,â the official said. âIn fact, TTSI and DJS are acting like the Simi.â They claimed to have got leads from the MP arrests on last yearâs twin blasts. Police is working on these leads.
