Questions Related To India-forum Website
Let us not dwell on the other forum but do what is best for this forum.
Kaushal gaaru

Well said. I strongly second that.

I, for one, would not want to be on a forum that bashes other India well wisher forums from which I have learnt and still learning a lot of things that help me counter all the misinformation that is being dished out at various on-line as well as social fora. The more good information we get the better. Even if there is some chamchagiri at times, there is lot more good information than bad in other fora (ex. Sulekha, BRF).

Taking the suggestion from you - That's it from me on this topic.

Ajay, obviously you have to make your own decision regarding your participation, here but rest assured we value all members here regardless of their views. The issue is not that the other forums do not have good information. In fact many of the positions that i originally espoused( obviously i was not the only one) a few years ago are now considered conventional wisdom there.

The problem is many of us have been either unceremoniously kicked out of that forum or have been treated very shabbily. To state the obvious is not to bash, but to point out something we hope will not be repeated in the future. I trust there is nothing that i have said that can be construed as bashing. As i have said in private communications on this topic, one cannot get angry with an old friend, and i do consider BR to be an old friend, although there may be disappointment with his behavior.

As for others expressing their frustrations, the forum cannot be held responsible for every view(or any view ) that is expressed here. We do believe in freedom of expression as long as we do not cross boundaries of bad taste and decorum. It is a sign of maturity of a nation, society or a group of people that they can carry on civil dialog even with those whom they emphatically disagree. I believe that is what sets apart increasing numbers among indians from their compadres in many other parts of the world.

I watched with utter disbelief the ugly episode that took place when HH was kicked out. It was totally uncalled for (especially the comment made by one of the BRADmins that he knows who HH really is). Pardon me for using strong laguage but that is nothing short of sheer bigotry. What is interesting is that just yesterday, a lot of dormant threads under SIRF at BRF have been "up"ped (and coincidenatally we had Shiv joining I-F). May be the decision to close down SIRF at BRF did not find wide support among the admins there. In any case, let us not dwell on what is past.

Also, please be assured that there was no bashing by you. You are one of my model posters on the net fora. You are Drona for my Ekalavya, so to speak.

Now since the occasion presents itself, I woudl like to repeat my request in one of my previous posts.

I would like to post some material and my thoughts on books (related to Indic culture - but more specifically to Indic/Sanskrit literature) I am currently reading/planning to read.

Should I post the material on the book review under Indian Culture or does it make sense to change the heading of "Indian Hiistory and Culture" to "Indian History, Culture, and Literature" and have a sub-topic specifically for "Indic Languages and Literature" with more subsubtopics for Sanskrit lit., Vedas, Upanishads, and the Epics as literary works, English writers from the subcontinent (eg. Raja Rao, R.K. Narayan, Mulk Raj Anand, Naipaul etc.). Rytha indicated that you or HH should make the decision.

Also, if you remember Romilla Thapar thread on BRF, you indicated that we might need a Linguistics thread. I-F seems to be the perfect place for such a discussion as well.
  Reply
Ajay,I think it is worthwhile to start a new thread or sub forum on Indic Languages and Literature. If HH has a different opinion ( he is due to come back this week) we can always merge. Initially there may not be much participation, as this is a 'heavy' subject, but we do have some heavy hitters here, if they choose to participate.

However, i am not sure whether i have the authority to change the name of the IH&C forum and add new titles within IH&C . I have to pass the buck back to rhytha or he has to show me how to do it.

Bhootnath, After reading your post & Kaushal's reply to it, I don't think it's necessary for me to add anything, or quote anyone's posts.

Let's move on!

It is great to be a part of this forum.

I am overwhelmed just reading the stuff you guys have already put together.

It is so much that it will take a while to absorb.

In this time, output will be low <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Exposing the vile animals who are our neighbours(both East and West) is a noble task- which takes precedence over most other things.

Soon the day will come when we will rip them apart. This forum would have done its duty in educating young Indian's about the snakes in our neighborhood which need to be CRUSHED

if anyone can't decide where to post a piece of info or news, just post it anywhere with a line in the bottom asking the mods to move it to the relevant forum Graduate

Ajay, please see "India Forum Journal" within the "General Topics". If you and others can contribute 3-4 book reviews, maybe we will have enough material to put together our first edition of IFJ.

A nifty feature of this board is the My Controls button on the top right hand corner of the page. Further there are other buttons like My assistant which are very useful. Pl. check these out . These will make your participation more efficient and reduce the time needed to search for a particular post or other tasks.

For instance under My assistant it tells us that there were 64 posts iin the last day, out of which the top ten posters accounted for about 52. So I am guessing there were about 15 posters in 1 day. This is about 12% of the total membership and is certainly a very good percentage of active posters. As you are probably aware the day is based on IST, as I am assuming the server is located there.

Thanx to rhytha for selecting a very well designed board.

Just wondering if India Forum needs a little organisation : couple of points,

1) Possible we could arrange to have threads in the strategic thread divided on world zones...its hard to follow world news and discuss issues from various countries all in a single thread.

Separate threads for Pakistan, Bangladesh are a must, even if forum participation right now is low...the biggest headlines and discussion can be archived much more effectively than trying to analyse news from various countries.

A)World zones theads could be :

1) A pakistan thread (already active)

2) A Bangladesh thread

3) A Nepal/Bhutan and NE thread

4) A Middle East thread

5) A SE Asia thread

6) China

<img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> Perhaps the History thread on Indic civilisations could be divided into two parts? One for the west ie Central asia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and one for SE asia...makes discussions easier and doesn't let us skip important articles.

C) Im not sure how members feel but often a thread generates into a Huge book of full articles with pages and pages that a member has to read before getting a gist of what the thread is about before posting.

Indeed its readability quotient decrease dramatically and members rapidly shift to other threads that seem concise and interesting. Perhaps if we post Article Links and Short Important summaries....that would be much more readable and easier to scan. Unless of course the article cannot be archived and then posting full is needed...saves bandwidth as well...

D) Perhaps threads that are really not taking off need to be deleted?

E) Notice that the Forum rules has disappeared, possible to erect it on the front page?

F)How do we push India Forum up the google Charts?? or get it better known??

Id like to say that thanks admins for your time and work, we've all got other jobs to do im sure and they give up valuable time to police the forum. Of course we already provide more information and analysis than any paki forum on the net! Hopefully we can spend more time to ensure that this forum grows, id like to start and maintain a Nepal/Bhutan/NE thread and will do so shortly...but im eager to see a Kaushalji special with a Sindhu Saraswati civilisation thread...!!
  Reply
Praneet: Great points and suggestions. Yes, we do have to do a cleanup in terms of threads.

On Saraswati civilization thread, Kaushal is on vacation.

The rules are on top of this or any page titled as "Guidelines and Terms of Service". Yes, would be nice to have it on main home page.

After a very short time here at IF , I have come to the conclusion that I am unable to express my rage, contempt, condescension, repugnance, hatred, despisal etc towards pakis to the fullest of my ability. A few more thoughtful emoticons will fit the bill nicely.

I am suggesting a few.

(1) Must have Paki Begging
(2) Must have Rotting green faced paki
(3) Must have Paki rat faced
(4) MUST HAVE Puking ,vomiting, throwing up
(5) nice to have A Green smiley getting bashed by a normal smiley with a baseball bat

Now for some positive stuff.

(1) A smiley with the Indian Flag
(2) A Tri colour smiley
(3) A hand shake smiley
(4) A jelebi smiley
