In a major breakthrough in the Varanasi blasts, six Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, involved in the March 7 twin blasts in the temple town that claimed 20 lives, have been arrested in Lucknow.
Five LeT militants were arrested from Sarojni Nagar and one from Gosainganj here, official sources said on Wednesday.
The sources said some AK-47 rifles, handgrenades and other explosive material were found from them. Two explosions occurred on March 7 in quick succession at the Sankatmochan shrine and the cantonment railway station, killing 20 people and injuring over 50.
The worst hit was the railway station where 14 people were killed and 30 injured. The other blast at the Sankatmochan temple occurred when it was teeming with devotees, killing six persons and injuring 25 others.
Yadav said, 15 hand grenades, six kilograms of RDX, three kilograms of plastic explosives, one AK-47 rifle with magazine, 27 cartridges, 10 detonator fuses and a pistol along with some cartridges were recovered from the possession of the arrested militants.
<b>While five of them were arrested from Sarojini Nagar area , another was nabbed from Gosaiganj. </b>
Acting on an intelligence information, STF sleuths arrested prime suspect Wali Ullah from Gosainganj and later based on the information provided by him, arrested five others from Sarojini Nagar area, he said.
Yadav said that Wali Ullah earlier worked for JEM and had been arrested along with his two brothers in 2001 and was currently the self-styled area commander of HUJI.
Ullah had studied in Deoband from where he had travelled to Bangladesh with another student Bashiruddin, a resident of Bangladesh, Yadav said adding that the HUJI Commander Maulana Asad Ullah directed him (Wali) to prepare youths for being sent to Pakistan for training, he said <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Imam Waliullah, he said, used to recruit youth in the name of jihad and send them to Bangladesh and Pakistan for training in terrorism.
The five men arrested on Wednesday are believed to be part of a 24-member group sent for training in terrorism in June 2004. They were first trained under the tutelage of HuJAI chief Asad Ullah and later sent to a terror camp near Karachi, Pakistan. They returned to India after 28 days and were asked to await instructions.
The STF official said Imam Waliullah was told at a religious function at Muaiama in Allahabad on January 23-24 that some Bangladeshi youth would be sent for a "mission" which he had to coordinate.
On March 3, <b>HuJAI area commander Basheer alias Basheerudeen, Mustafeez and Zakariya, who had studied with Imam Waliullah at Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband, reached his house in Phoolpur along with ammonium nitrate, batteries, wires, detonators</b>, etc that were later used for putting together the Varanasi bombs.
On March 4, Mustafeez and Zakariya stayed back at Abdulla Mosque near Allahabad railway station, while Imam Waliullah and Basheer went to Varanasi to inspect the spots where they later planted the bombs and returned the same night.
Over the next two days, the three Bangladeshi operatives moved around Allahabad and procured three pressure cookers and crafted the lethal bombs that were to leave behind a trail of blood and flesh in Varanasi.
On March 7, they took Bundelkhand Express from Phoolpur to reach Varanasi. Next, they planted the bombs at Sankat Mochan Temple, Cantonment Railway Station and Godaulia near the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. While the first two bombs triggered mass destruction and loss of lives, the third, at Godaulia, was defused in time.
<b>With their mission accomplished, the Bangladeshis vanished and even Imam Waliullah lost contact with them. The STF is trying to track them down.</b>
Imam Waliullah has been arrested in the past for his jihadi linkages. He and his two brothers were arrested in 2001 and Kalashnikov rifles, grenades and explosives were seized from the imam's Phoolpur house after three Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists, whom he had harboured, were gunned down by the STF in Lucknow. <b>He was in jail for eight months before procuring bail and walking away to freedom to plot his next strike.</b>
It is believed that after his release from jail on bail, Imam Waliullah contacted Basheer, 'area commander' of HuJAI, and met HuJAI 'commander' Asad Ullah in Dhaka, who made him the 'area commander' of Uttar Pradesh. Part of the imam's task was to recruit young men and send them for jihadi training in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Ajay Kumar, DCP (special cell) said, "The main accused arrested in UP are members of Harkat-Ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HUJI), which is a wing of Jaish-e-Mohammad while the Delhi bomb blast case is the handiwork of Lashkar-e-Taiyyaba."
Meanwhile, he added, "We have not received any formal intimation from the UP STF regarding their involvement in Delhi blasts" are based on speculations and it has no authenticity. However, Kumar added that if required the accused arrested by the UP police may be interrogated. So far six persons have been arrested in Delhi bomb blasts case and four chargesheets have been filed against the accused.
No further arrests are likely in the Delhi bomb blast case. A team of Special Cell, which was camping in the valley regarding for the investigations has also been called back.

Lucknow, April 6: <b>Six Harkat-ul-Jehad al Islami (HuJI)militants</b>, including the mastermind behind the Varanasi blasts, had hatched a conspiracy to blow up the two Hanuman temples in the city on Ramnavami, state police's Special Task Force sources said on Thursday.
A map of the city had been recovered from the possession of militants, who were arrested yesterday, marking the spots which they had planned to strike, the sources said.
They said militants had planned to blow up the old Hanuman temples at Aliganj and the one near Lucknow University in the city on Ramnavami day today as a large number of devotees pay obeisance there on this day.
Sources said some Pakistani passports had also been recovered from them. The STF was in touch with central intelligence agencies and efforts were on to nab their masters in Bangladesh with the help of the Interpol, they said.
The STF had arrested six HuJI militants, including Waliullah, who was the mastermind behind the twin blasts in Varanasi on March 7.
They also revealed during interrogation that three Bangladeshi militants who had triggered blasts in Varanasi could also be behind the last year's terror blasts in Delhi and Shramjeevi Express train near Jaunpur. <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

BHADRACHALAM: The State Government has decided to tighten security at the famous Sriramachandra Swamy Temple in view of the reports of ISI threat perception.
A meeting attended by senior police and temple officials at the Sub Collectorâs office on Saturday decided to enhance the existing security and proposed a set of security measures to be put in place on the temple premises.
The newly proposed security measures include: installation of secret cameras inside sanctum sanctorum, where the ornaments of the presiding deities would be stored. The cameras could be switched on after the temple is closed.
Electrified iron fencing could be set up around the temple and additional security forces would be deployed in addition to the existing CRPF guards.
The officials proposed to install four metal detectors at the four main entrance points leading to the temple. A burglar alarm would also be installed at the nearest police station which would be connected to the temple to enable the police to react swiftly in case of any attack.
Strong wooden doors would be installed at the staircases leading to the temple and keeping in view of the increasing rush, four parking slots would be allotted on the temple premises. The police also suggested installation of mobile barricades.
âWe have sent our proposals to the higher officials in the State Government,â revenue divisional officer Ch VV Badarinarayana said.

Varanasi blasts accused shot dead

Good riddance in my opinion!
Otherwise they would all be detained till kingdom come or released when a smart-alec Human Rights activist moves the Courts.
My concern is either police is clueless or they are protecting some vested political party. Both are dangerous for India's security. These types of acts give false security to citizens and in long run will harm country and people will or already lost trust in Government and law enforcement agencies.
