Iraq And Its Future
<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Have there been any major Shia attacks against Sunnis in the recent past to stack up against the number of Shia fatalities mentioned in the news excerpts of post 176? <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Normal official Media is not saying, but recent journalist web diary showed what is going on. Shia goon check every patient whether they are Shia or Sunni, if it is Sunni, they kill them. Everyday they open makeshift morgue for families to recognize family members. Normally, bodies are with execution style wounds.

<b>British navy crew leaves Iran for London </b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->The president first gave a medal of honor to the commander of the Iranian coast guards who captured the Britons, and admonished London for sending a mother, Leading Seaman Faye Turney, on such a dangerous mission in the Persian Gulf.

He said the British government was "not brave enough" to admit the crew had been in Iranian waters when it was captured.

Ahmadinejad then declared that even though Iran had the right to put the Britons on trial, he had "pardoned" them to mark the March 30 birthday of the Prophet Muhammad and the coming Easter holiday.

"This pardon is a gift to the British people," he said.

US media is critizing UK Navy. First Navy helicopter failed to protect UK boat. They left search spot before search was complete. Secondly, the way their soldiers behaved in front of camera was very unprofessional. Looks like, west fighting forces is going down in drain.

one of the soldiers was interviewed sitting in between his mother and father. An acquaintance observed that the first thing the soldiers did when getting together for the group interview was reach for the water pitcher and make sure their glasses were filled. I can't believe these jokers ruled bharat for 200 years.

First time when I visited UK my reaction was same, how they were able to rule India for 200 years.

They were able to rule because of Indian traitors, who were more interested to serve "White" then Brown. Kings, Nawabs, and head of princely states preferred to serve "Whites" then to stand against them. You can see same mindset whether it is sub human Natwar Singh or Arjun Singh or VP Singh or ManMohan Singh or Arminder Singh.
Even now Indians are happy to ape west to declare them modern; some claim we are proud beef-eaters so we are modern. We know English we are better human.
You will never find them say, we taught them to take shower/bath/ Sanan everyday or don't take sleepers to kitchen or inside house because it is unhygienic.

Six troops died and one was injured when one of the roadside bombs struck their vehicle, the alliance said in a statement. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper confirmed they were Canadian troops, Canadian Press reported.

A separate roadside bomb Sunday killed one NATO soldier and wounded two, NATO said.

Officials did not release the nationality of those soldiers and did not give details or say where exactly in the south the attacks took place.

Background
Iraq in turmoil
More  WASHINGTON, April 12 (Reuters) - The United States strongly condemned Thursday's suicide bombing on Iraq's parliament but Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said such attacks were not unexpected while the U.S. security plan was in its early stages.

"It is obviously again the terrorists and those who wish to stop the Iraqi people from having a future that would be based on democracy and stability," Rice told reporters of the attack on a restaurant in Iraq's parliament, which killed two lawmakers and injured dozens more.

She was speaking after a meeting with Sen. John McCain, a Republican presidential hopeful who visited Iraq this month and said the Bush administration's new security plan was starting to show results, comments that were seized on by the Democrats as being too optimistic.

The White House strongly condemned the attack, one of the worst security breaches of the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad, which houses parliament and other government buildings, since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

"This attack demonstrates the terrorists' and extremists' desire to undermine the Iraqi government and its desire to bring peace and stability to the people of Iraq," White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.

Rice said such attacks were to be expected as efforts were made to undermine U.S. progress on security.

"We've said there are going to be good days and bad days concerning the security plan but the commanders are carrying on their responsibilities and working to try to make the population more secure," added Rice.

"We're really just at the beginning of this and not at the end of it," she said.

McCain also predicted "spectacular" attacks in the Green Zone, which he said were intended to grab the headlines in the United States, where opinion polls show dwindling support for U.S. forces staying in Iraq.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Baghdad bombs kill 34</b>
Apr 16, 2007

Up to 34 people were killed and 100 wounded by bombs in mainly Shi'ite districts of Baghdad on Sunday, police said, and two British military personnel died when two helicopters crashed north of the city.

Four more people were injured when the Puma transport helicopters crashed near a US air base in Taji, 20 kilometres from Baghdad, British officials said. The helicopters may have collided in mid-air, the US military said.

Two car bombs earlier on Sunday killed 15 people and wounded 50 more in the al-Shurta al-Rabeia neighbourhood in southwest Baghdad. The first was detonated in a market, followed seconds later by another at a nearby intersection, police said.

They said mortar rounds also landed in the area, in an apparently co-ordinated attack.

Twisted metal littered the market, television footage showed. Several cars were damaged in the explosion.

In Karrada in central Baghdad, two roadside bombs at nightfall killed eight people and wounded 23, including three policemen, police said. The second bomb went off as people were gathering around the site of the first explosion.

Also in Karrada, a car bomb aimed at a police patrol earlier killed five people and wounded another 10 in a blast that rattled windows hundreds of metres away, police said.

In the Kadhimiya district in the northwest of the capital, a police source said a suicide bomber wearing a belt packed with explosives killed six people and wounded 11 in a small bus. Another police source put the death toll at three.

A two-month-old, US-backed security crackdown in Baghdad seen as the last-ditch attempt to avoid Iraq from sliding into all-out civil war has reduced the number of targeted killings. But US and Iraqi commanders still find car and suicide bombers hard to stop.

The US military said the helicopter crash near Taji did not appear to be the result of an insurgent attack.

"We have seen a rise in the number of car bomb attacks. We have been very diligent in taking down these people who build these car bombs. We are taking one cell at a time," said US military spokesman Rear Admiral Mark Fox.

<b>British helicopter crash</b>

The helicopters' crash brought the British death toll in Iraq since the US-led invasion in 2003 to 142. Eight have been killed this month alone.

"Sadly, two personnel have died and one is very seriously injured. All of these were UK personnel," British Defence Secretary Des Browne said in London.

"The information I have received suggests to me that this incident was caused by an accident rather than by an attack."

Puma helicopters normally have a three-person crew and can carry up to 16 troops.

In Mosul, 390 kilometres north of Baghdad, four Iraqi soldiers were killed when two oil trucks driven by suicide bombers exploded outside an Iraqi military base, police said.

Health officials said another three people had died after Saturday's suicide car bomb blast at a crowded bus station in Kerbala, a holy city that is a main pilgrimage destination for Shi'ites, taking the death toll to 43. Another 200 were wounded.

<b>Sectarian tensions between majority Shi'ites and once-dominant Sunni Arabs have been high since the bombing of a Shi'ite shrine in Samarra in February 2006 unleashed a wave of violence. Tens of thousands have been killed since then.</b>
(Where's teesta seetalvad? While she's been fund raising crocodile tears and pushing for a 'genocide' label for the ~700 muslims and ~300 Hindus killed in Godhra riots, <b>tens of thousands of holy islamis have been killed since Feb 2006!</b> That's several ten thousands!)

In the volatile southern city of Basra, British forces backing up an overnight police raid in the southwestern Hayaniya district, a Shi'ite militia stronghold, shot five gunmen who opened fire on them, the British military said.

British officials could not confirm if the gunmen had been killed or wounded.

British forces are pursuing a more aggressive policy towards Shi'ite militias as they prepare to hand over security control in Basra to Iraqi forces later this year. Stabilising the port city is crucial because it is the hub for Iraq's main oilfields.

British forces killed eight militiamen laying roadside bombs on the western outskirts of Basra on Friday night. More than 20 gunmen were hit in another operation in the city last Tuesday.

(2) Iraqi parliament bombing: AQ says, 'we did it, we did it!'
<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Al Qaeda group claims bombing</b>
Apr 14, 2007

An al Qaeda-linked group said on Friday it had staged the suicide bombing on the Iraqi parliament this week, adding it delayed claiming responsibility to give those involved in planning the attack time to escape.

The <b>self-styled Islamic State in Iraq</b> said in a statement on a Web site used by Islamists: "One of the heroes of the martyrs' brigade ... managed to infiltrate into the midst of the <b>apostates of the so-called parliament</b> ... and God destroyed through him the <b>infidels and apostates</b>".
(Bunch o' morons. Iraq and Iraqis won't have a fightin' chance thanks to the islamis around.)

The suicide attack, inside Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, killed one member of the parliament and wounded two dozen other people.

The group said it delayed claiming responsibility to allow other militants involved in the attack to get away.

The group, which was formed last year by al Qaeda and some smaller Sunni insurgent groups, has claimed responsibility for a series of major attacks.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>Iraq bombers hit key Samarra mosque </b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->The assault on the Askariya Shrine, one of the holiest in Shiite Islam, immediately stirred fears of a new round of intra-Muslim bloodshed, and prompted the 30-member bloc of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr to suspend its membership in Iraq's parliament, threatening a deeper political crisis.

To ward off a surge of violence, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki quickly imposed an indefinite curfew on vehicle traffic and large gatherings in Baghdad.

It wasn't clear how the attackers evaded the shrine's guards to mount the stunning operation, detonating the blasts around 9 a.m., and bringing down the two slender golden minarets that flanked the dome's ruins at the century-old mosque. No casualties were reported.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Twin bombings in northern Iraq kill 80</b>
By YAHYA BARZANJI, Associated Press Writer

Twin suicide car bombings exploded within 20 minutes of each other in Iraq's north on Monday, <b>killing at least 80 people and wounding around 150</b> in attacks targeting a Kurdish political office and ripping through an outdoor market, police said.

The attacks in Kirkuk began around noon when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-packed truck near the concrete blast walls of the headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the party of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.

The explosion blasts a 30-foot-deep crater in the pavement and collapsed part of the roof of the one-story PUK office. Outside the offices, the burnt shells of more than two dozen vehicles were in the street.

Soon after, the second bomber attacked the Haseer market, 700 yards away, destroying stalls and cars, said Kirkuk police Brig. Sarhat Qadir.

The Haseer market — an outdoor souk with stalls of vegetable and fruit sellers — is frequented by Kurds in Kirkuk, a city where tensions are high between the Kurdish and Arab populations. At least 80 people were killed and around 140 wounded, said police Brig. Burhan Tayeb Taha.

The attack was believed to be the deadliest suicide bombing in Kirkuk — 180 miles north of Baghdad — where violence tends to be on a smaller scale of shootings, roadside bombs and kidnap-slayings, often linked to the struggle between the city's Kurds and Arabs. <b>Monday's blast came just over a week after one of the Iraq conflict's deadliest suicide attacks hit a village about 50 miles south of Kirkuk, killing more than 160 people.</b>

<b>Iraqi officials have said Sunni insurgents are moving further north to carry out attacks, fleeing U.S. offensives in and around Baghdad,</b> including in the city of Baqouba, a stronghold of extremists on the capital's northwestern doorstep. The month-old sweeps, fueled by the "surge" of 28,000 new American troops sent to Iraq this year, aim to pacify the capital and boost the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

U.S. troops launched a new offensive south of Baghdad on Monday, aimed at stopping weapons and fighters from moving into the capital, the military said in a statement.

The statement did not say where the new sweep, codenamed Marne Avalanche, was taking place. Cut in recent days U.S. commanders have said they plan new operations to cut off an insurgent supply route southwest of the city, running from western Anbar province. An offensive has been ongoing for the past month in a region southeast of Baghdad.

Violence appears to have eased in Baghdad in recent weeks — but attacks, including deadly car bombs, happen daily.

A string of attacks Monday morning in the capital killed at least <b>14 people</b>.

In the deadliest, <b>a roadside bomb exploded as an Iraqi army patrol passed</b> in the city's northeast outskirts,<b> killing five soldiers</b> and wounding nine, an army officer said.

Two car bombs struck, one driven by a suicide bomber who struck a police checkpoint on a major road leading to a major Interior Ministry building inside the Green Zone. <b>Two policemen</b> were killed and seven people wounded, a police official said.

A parked car bomb went off in the central district of Karradah on Monday, exploding near Masbah Square, killing one person, wounding three others and leaving nearby shops burned, a police official said. <b>On Sunday, a car bomb went off about a half-mile away, killing 10 people</b>.

Other deaths in Baghdad were caused by mortars, shootings and roadside bombs, according to police officials. <b>On Sunday, 22 bullet-riddled bodies were found dumped in various locations of Baghdad, apparently the latest victims of sectarian violence, police said.</b> All the officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the reports.

The military announced Monday that an American soldier died from wounds received the day before by a bombing in Ninevah province, northwest of Kirkuk.

A group of 24 Iranians escaped from detention in an Iraqi police station in the southern town of Badra this week, police in the town said. They broke out Saturday evening, and while four were quickly recaptured, the remainder may have fled across the nearby border, a police officer in the nearby city of Kut said.

The Iranians had been detained on suspicion of illegally entering the country, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the press. Thousands of Iranians enter Iraq — particularly the Shiite heartland in the south — for pilgrimage and business, but the U.S. also accuses Iran's Revolutionary Guards of organizing <b>Shiite militants</b> into cells and arming them to attack U.S. and Iraqi forces.

Meanwhile, parliament convened on Monday as Iraqi politicians tried to end a pair of boycotts of the legislature — by Sunni legislators and by Shiite lawmakers loyal to anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr — that are holding up work on crucial reforms sought by Washington.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
