Pioneer.com
Barry Rubin
And there are many in the West who are ready to play along in the mistaken belief that kind words and concessions can transform them. Nothing like that will ever happen, nor will Islamists like Hamas ever see the light of reason

Radical forces in West Asia have rewritten the international rulebook in a way designed so they can't lose. That is, there's no easy response to their behaviour and strategies.

What's even more worrisome is the widespread failure in the West even to realise this is happening. Hamas and Hizbullah fire from among civilians and use civilian homes for military purposes, Syria or Iran deploy disinformation, radical regimes pretend moderation, and there are plenty of suckers to bite the bait.

Extremism makes many believe that kind words and concessions can transform them; intransigence produces a response that if they won't give up we must do so.

Here are some new rules in which "we" represents such disparate forces as Hamas, Hizbullah, Iran, Iraqi insurgents, Al Qaeda, Syria, the Taliban, and others, including radical Arab nationalists. These forces are not all alike or allied but do often follow a parallel set of rules quite different from how international affairs have generally been conducted.

We'll never give up. No matter what you do, we will continue fighting. No matter what you offer we will keep attacking you. Since you can't win, you should give up.

We're indifferent to pressure you put on us. We will turn this pressure against you. Against us, deterrence does not exist; diplomacy does not convince. Neither does the carrot buy us off, nor does the stick make us yield. There are no solutions that can end the conflict. You cannot win militarily nor make peace through diplomacy.

If you set economic sanctions we'll say you are starving our people in an act of "collective punishment". Moreover, sanctions will cost you money and generate opposition among those who lose profits.

In response to military operations we'll attack your civilians. Casualties will undermine your internal support. We will try to force you to kill civilians accidentally. We won't care but will use this to persuade many that you are evil. Thus, we will simultaneously murder your civilians and get you condemned as human rights' violators.

If you try to isolate us we will use your media and intellectuals against you. At times, we'll hint at moderation and make promises of change. We won't do so enough to alienate our own followers but enough to subvert yours. They will demand you engage us, which means you making concessions for nothing real in exchange.

Talking to our own people, we foment hatred and demonise you. Speaking to the West, we will accuse you of fomenting hatred. We will hypocritically turn against you all the concepts you developed: racism, imperialism, failure to understand the "other", and so on. These, of course, are our ideas but your feelings of guilt, ignorance about us, and indifference to ideology will make you not notice that fact.

We will claim to be victims and "underdogs". Because you are the stronger and more "advanced" that means you are the villains. We're not held responsible for our deeds or expected to live up to the same standards. There is no shortage of, to quote Lenin, "useful idiots" who will echo our propaganda.

Since our societies are weak, undemocratic, and have few real moderates, you will have to make deals with phoney moderates and dictatorial regimes weakened by corruption and incompetence.

Even the less radical regimes, often our immediate adversaries, partly play into our hands. Due to popular pressure-plus their desire to mobilise support and distract attention from their own shortcomings - they trumpet Arab and Islamic solidarity. They denounce the West, blame all problems on Israel, and revile America, even as they accept your aid. They glorify interpretations of Islam not too far from ours. They cheer Iraqi insurgents, Hizbullah and Hamas. They don't struggle against Iran getting nuclear weapons. They lay the basis for our mass support and recruits, as Lenin said, selling us the rope to hang them as well as you.

There's no diplomatic solution for you, though you yearn to find one. There's no military solution for you, whether you try that or not. You love life, we love death; you are divided, we are united; you want to get back to material satisfaction, we are dedicated revolutionaries. We will outlast you.

Finally, our greatest weapon is that you truly don't understand all the points made above. You are taught, informed, and often led by people who simply don't comprehend what an alternative, highly ideological, revolutionary worldview means. In effect, we will try, and often succeed, to turn your "best and brightest" into the worst and dimmest who think you can persuade us, blame you for the conflicts, or expect that we will alter our course, and we will use those mistakes against you.

The above analysis seems pessimistic but actually is the opposite. Most of this strategy's power is based on spreading illusions, depending on gullibility. Much of the rest relies on their enemies' psychological weaknesses. In a sustained conflict, the radicals' technological and organisational weaknesses, along with their mistaken assessments and unrealistic ideology, will bring inevitable defeat. They will lose even if they never surrender. They can kill people but not overcome societies determined to grow, prosper, and survive. The keys to a successful response are steadfastness and understanding. To paraphrase Francis Bacon and Franklin Roosevelt, there is nothing to fear but fear - and gullibility - itself.

In the twenty year period before and after 9/11, a number of books aahve come out to examine the question of the Moors of Spain. Most o the works are apologies to the Islamists of Moorish Spain and imply that somehow had the Moors survived in Spain there would have been enlightenment, milk and honey all over Europe. The Moors are important for most of the European perceptions of Islam and the other world were drawn from their experience with the Moors. In fact Afrcian people were identified with color rather than any other association. The Spanirds and the Portugese got most of their words from them.

Here is a google book

We need to study them to get an idea for why things are the way they are.

I came across an article recently which argued that Western Roman Empire dissolved not because of Germanics and other such characters, but rather because the Islamic Arabs took over the trans-Mediterranean trade networks. will try to find it.

On further googling to understand what & why happened I found two other google books

Muslim Prespective from and English Author Stanley Lane Poole:

The story of Moors in Spain

Christian or European Prespective by another English author Henry Edward Watts

Christian Recovery of Spain

Both books are ~ 5 MB pdfs . I sugest peole should download them and read them. One fonds a lot of similarities in the invasion of Spain and India. The second book gives an inkling of how Reconquista occured. This can be compared to what happened in South India and what didnt happen in North India and how long it took.

<b>OIC's sinister message</b>

Here

The Organisation of Islamic Conference, whose membership is
understandably restricted to 57 Islamic countries, at its meeting in
Dakar, Senegal, over Thursday and Friday, <b>has released a report that
stands out for its remarkable casuistry</b>. The 'Observatory Report on
Islamophobia' , a bulky document that lists a <b>variety of imaginary
grievances to make the point that Islam is being defamed and Muslims
are being discriminated against, is of a piece with the OIC's untiring
efforts to promote imagined victimhood as a convenient cover to
justify Islamist terror</b>.

In the past, the OIC has lashed out at India for 'suppressing' Muslim
aspirations in Jammu & Kashmir; it has now lashed out at the entire
world (barring, of course, those countries where Islam rules) for
"defamation of Islam and racial intolerance of Muslims". The bulk of
the OIC's anger is directed at "Western societies", but that is
essentially because it wishes to play to the gallery and reflect the
"concerns of the Islamic ummah". The report, however, should cause
concern across the world, not least because it seeks a "binding legal
instrument" that will delegitimise "negative political and media
discourse" on issues with which Islam and Muslims are intimately
associated, severely restrict freedom of expression, and force
universal acceptance of, if not compliance with, all that is claimed
in the name of Islam.

A fortnight before the official unveiling of this <b>compendium of rant
against the free world and denunciation of open and plural societies,</b>
the OIC Ambassadorial Group at the United Nations issued a statement
on Islamophobia in New York on February 29. The statement is a summary
of the obnoxious contents of the OIC report; its tone is belligerent
and dismissive of dissenting opinion. "The Group is particularly and
deeply alarmed by the intensification of the campaign against Islam,
as it impairs Muslims' enjoyment of the right to freedom of thought,
conscience and religion, and impedes their ability to observe,
practice and manifest their religion freely and without fear of
coercion, violence or reprisal," the statement says.

<b>The statement and the report, however, are deliberately silent on
non-Muslims being denied the right to freedom of thought, conscience
and religion - for instance, as has been denied to the Pandits of
Kashmir Valley and is now being denied to Hindus in Islamic countries
like Malaysia - and thus impeding their ability to observe, practice
and manifest their religion freely and without fear of coercion.</b> This
is not surprising as the OIC is known for speaking with a forked
tongue. Nor is it surprising that it should seek to bring into popular
usage a neologism like 'Islamophobia' that serves its sinister agenda,
while insisting that others like 'Islamofascism' , along with 'radical
Islam' and 'Islamic terrorism', must be banned from public discourse.
Those who persist with using these terms shall be seen as, and held
guilty of, Islamophobia. Terror has a new identity.

Ironically, what Europe is now being accused of owes its origin to
entirely misplaced European, more specifically British, faith in
'multiculturalism' which has become the magic password to escape
censure for indulging in Islamofascism, the ideology of those who
subscribe to radical Islamism. The world first heard of Islamophobia
when the Runnymede Trust set up the Commission on British Muslims and
Islamophobia in 1996, much before New York's Twin Towers and the
London Underground were bombed. It is no less ironical that the
commission's report, 'Islamophobia: A challenge for us all', was
released in 1997 in the House of Commons by then Home Secretary Jack
Straw. In October 2006, Mr Straw was pitilessly denounced by those who
claim to be victims of Islamophobia in Britain and abroad for daring
to describe the Islamic veil as a "visible statement of separation and
of difference".

<b>By 2004, it was felt necessary to denounce Islamophobia to keep
Islamofascists in good humour.</b> In May that year the Council of Europe
summit formally "condemned Islamophobia" . Seven months later, Mr Kofi
Annan, who brought shame and disgrace to his office as UN
Secretary-General, gave it the stamp of international recognition by
presiding over a conference on 'Confronting Islamophobia' . Between
then and now, it has become fashionable to condemn any criticism of
radical Islamism and fanaticism of the variety practiced and exported
by Saudi Arabia, as Islamophobia, much the same way it is considered
politically correct to describe the terrorism of Hamas and Hizbullah
as "resistance against Zionism".

The truth is that Islamophobia is not about 'undue fear of Islam'.
Well-known scholar Daniel Pipes, who is known to berate those who use
Islam to justify their perversions, but not Islam (that has not
prevented the OIC from naming him, along with Samuel P Huntington,
author of The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order,
and eminent historian Bernard Lewis, as an Islamophobe) says, "While
prejudice against Islam certainly exists, Islamophobia deceptively
conflates two distinct phenomena: Fear of Islam and fear of radical
Islam." So, those who feel repelled by the ideology of radical
Islamism and fear the terrible consequences of not putting down its
practitioners, are also accused of Islamophobia. Similarly, it has
become a convenient tool to silence critics of Islam and reformists
within the ummah. <b>It equates freedom to question with racism.</b>

Worse, it gives fanatics the right to abuse others and vilify their
faith, secure in the knowledge that anybody who dares protest will be
branded an Islamophobe. When Britain toyed with the idea of adopting a
law against hate speech, this point was made eloquently by <b>Mr Azzam
Tamimi, a senior member of the Muslim Association of Britain, who
insisted that while the law should gag critics of Islam, it should not
prevent Muslims from berating other religions since it is their 'duty'
to do so, or from glorifying Palestinian suicide bombers because, as
he put it, "We love death, they love life." Mr Tamimi, curiously, is a
leading light of the 'Stop the War Coalition'</b>.

Similarly, criticism of textbooks used in a London school funded by
Saudi Arabia, describing Jews as "repugnant" and Christians as "pigs",
would be considered Islamophobia, as would any attempt to rein in
Islamist terrorist outfits anywhere in the world. When the British
Government tried to ban Hizb ut-Tahrir, it struck back by launching a
'Stop Islamophobia' campaign on British campuses. Apart from referring
to the 9/11 terrorists as the "magnificent 19", as was done by its
prominent leader Omar Bakri Mohammed, who later floated Al-Mohajiroun
and now sends out e-mail 'advising' Muslim youth from his hideout in
Lebanon, Hizb ut-Tahrir is guilty of practising anti-Semitism, abusing
Hindus and Hinduism, and preaching that "suicide bombers go straight
to heaven". To stand up to Hizb ut-Tahrir, therefore, amounts to
Islamophobia.

<b>Closer home, the Students Islamic Movement of India, which has been
banned for being a terrorist organisation, insists that it is being
targeted because its members are scrupulous adherents of Islam. Hence,
if the OIC report is to be taken seriously and its definition of
Islamophobia accepted, the order banning SIMI is a manifestation of
Islamophobia. The Government of India is equally guilty of
Islamophobia for providing dissident Bangladeshi writer Taslima
Nasreen with a resident permit. </b>And, those in media who refuse to
endorse the humiliation of Gudiyas and the persecution of Imranas by
the ulema, and believe there is a connection between radical Islamism
and Islamist terrorism, stand accused of "targeting Muslims and Islam".

We can afford to ignore the ringing message from Dakar only at the
expense of the <b>values that set us apart from those who decree that a
woman who has been raped should be publicly flogged, if not stoned to
death</b>.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Saudi Arabia gets women-only hotel</b>

Riyadh, March 19, 2008

<b>For a country that goes to such great lengths to segregate unrelated men and women, it took Saudi Arabia a long time to hit on the idea of women-only hotels.

The kingdom's first hotel exclusively for females opened on Wednesday, offering plush lodgings with a full-range of health and beauty facilities for ladies to pamper themselves away from the accusing eyes of a male-dominated society.</b>

"Inside this physical structure, we are all women. We even have bell-women. We are women-owned, women-managed and women-run, from our IT engineer to our electrical engineer," Executive Director Lorraine Coutinho told Reuters.

"This is meeting a very big demand. There are women's hotels all over the world, from Berlin to the United States to everywhere," she said.

Saudi Arabia is one of the most conservative countries in the world, where tradition and hardline clerics restrict women's movement, preventing them from meeting male friends in public, driving cars or employment in many jobs.

New rules announced in January allow women to stay in standard mixed-gender hotels without a male family member in tow, but bureaucracy and conservative family values mean few have been able to make use of their new-found freedom.

<b>The Luthan Hotel & Spa is owned by a group of 20 Saudi princesses and businesswomen, but it was left to seven princes headed by Sultan bin Salman, a son of Riyadh's powerful governor, to officially inaugurate it on Wednesday evening.</b>

"This meets the Saudi woman's need for a place to stay as she moves around her country," he told a large pack of male journalists who stomped around rooms delicately adorned with incense candles, rose-red fabrics and bas-reliefs of cherubs.

Prices range from 350 riyals ($93) per night to 979 riyals, with weekend "spa break" rates for around 2,000 riyals, though the hotel is located some distance from central Riyadh.

"This is a good response to those who always say women aren't taken care of here. Even in the West there are women's places where men can't go," said Mohammed al-Adhil, deputy head of Riyadh Chambers of Commerce.

The few female journalists who came along liked the hotel but not the fact that men dominated the opening ceremony.

"It's a pioneering idea. There was a big need, since you don't need a 'mihrim' (male guardian) with you," said Iman al-Samra of al-Rai TV.

<b>Another said dismissively: "You know what they're saying about this place, that it's the hotel for lesbians."</b> <!--emo&:roll--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ROTFL.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='ROTFL.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Moradabad, Mar 27 (ANI): <b>Moradabad Police today arrested a middle aged man, Iqbal, for sending a letter threatening yoga guru Baba Ramdev with dire consequences.</b>

In the wake of the letter, the district administration has beefed up security arrangements at a camp that is being supervised by Baba Ramdev till March 30.

<b>Iqbal, a resident of the Mugalsarai locality of Muradabad</b>, is being interrogated.

Baba Ramdev reportedly advocated the two-child policy for India, while addressing his followers in Lucknow two days ago.

<b>He said that those who maintain small families should be honoured and suggested imposing a harsh penalty on those who keep relatively large families.

"It is high time for Indians to seriously think about the consequences of uncontrolled population growth, which is hampering India's transformation into one of the world's super power," and pledged his support to population control measures initiated by the Government of India.</b>

Ramdev has popularised yoga across the world with claims of the ancient knowledge curing illnesses through breathing exercises and traditional medicines.

mar 30th, 2008

the final solution: communists are simply killing hindus in kannur district. and in calicut, it is mohammedans doing it.

i got this appeal to help the poor hindus. i believe it is a genuine appeal.

note in particular 24-33, the victims in maraad when a group of armed mohammedans ambushed them on a beach where they were relaxing. these were fishermen, presumably scheduled caste. but nobody is bothered about their rights. everyone is worried that the mohammedans have not been able to come back and occupy their houses among hindus. yes, these were people who had known about the coming massacre and had strategically left the area en masse quietly a day before; and from whose mosques blood-stained swords were found; note that mohammedan women had formed a cordon around the mosques to prevent police from going in. so the mohammedan females are active collaborators in jihad.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->See further at link (includes list with all names of poor Hindus killed by islamiterrorism and communiterrorism).
