âI have not come here to seek an explanation from the people of Jewargi on why they defeated me. I have come here only to thank you for supporting me all these years,â Mr. Singh said. âI know which village had gone against me and the people behind my defeat in this election.
I am here to do some introspection with you (workers) on the impact of the Assembly electionâs outcome on the State polity,â he added.
Mr. Singh put forth the steps taken by him for the development of the Jewargi Assembly constituency and the State in his 36-year political career.
Mr. Singh said no community or caste could point an accusing finger at him for neglecting their interests.
âFor every community and caste, I have done something,â he said. He said that it was at his insistence that the Government had declared a general holiday on birth anniversary of the 12th century social reformer, Basaveshwara. He added that the Basavakalyan Development Authority was constituted during his tenure as Chief Minister.
He said: âYou might have defeated me in this election⦠but my worries are about the help extended by the voters of Jewargi to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to come to power in the State to implement its communalist agendaâ. Mr. Singh said that it would be the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which would rule the State by proxy.
âWorriedâ
âKarnataka is known for peaceful co-existence of different communities, and I am worried what will happen now,â he said.
