The CPI on Friday made it clear that military action against Pakistan or raiding terrorist camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir was not an option to face the challenges posed to the country in the aftermath of terror strikes in Mumbai.
Addressing the delegate session of the 39th AITUC national meet here, CPI general secretary AB Bardhan said a responsible and mature democracy like India should not take decision based on âpublic outrage and moodâ. âWe the Left parties, CPI and CPI(M), have told the Government during the all-party meeting that no steps should be taken which can lead to military action,â Bardhan said.
âWe want the issues to be resolved through bilateral talks and we should stick to that,â he said. A military action would only result in unforeseen consequences and harm both to India and Pakistan, Bardhan said, adding âour stand should not be seen as that we are less-patriotic.â
There was no doubt who was responsible for the Mumbai attack, he said. âObviously, it was terrorist outfits and other elements based in Pakistan.
âBut,I am not blaming the Pakistan Government for that,â he said. However, he said, no amount of statements from Pakistan President and Prime Minister would clear them from the fact that it was terrorists trained, equipped and send from Pakistan who have carried out the attack.
âThe main objective of the terrorists was to destroy the polity of the country and if we resort to any military action, we will be playing into their hands,â he said. âPakistan is a weak democracy and terrorists want to send that country back into the hands of the military,â Bardhan added.
