Rama Setu -2
Swami Vivekananda once remarked: Religion is NOT for empty stomachs. That seems relevant here. While the elite is worried about this issue, the common man isn't, because he has other problems to think of. That's why no Hindu movement, including Ram Mandir and Ram Setu, ever succeeds, it's because the common man is too concerned about basic survival to even consider these matters.

I guess this applies only to Hindus. Doesn't seem to faze other faith's poor and starving adherents - either in their fervor or fantaticism.

It applies to all. Muslims who're poor must concern themselves with alleviating their poverty, they shouldn't worry about Allah and stuff. But the reason I am referring to Hindus is for two reasons:

#1 Hindu-Baiters can always point to the poverty of Hindus, and say why are hindus worrying about Ram, when they don't have bread to eat.
#2 A starving Hindu population wouldn't be ready for a revolution, so even from a Hindu perspective, what I say is true.

The problem here is, Most people here, like our comrade Vishwas <!--emo&Tongue--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo--> , have the wrong idea that anyone who believes in Socialism must be a Hindu basher. That simply isn't true.

Hindu Hero Shri Kuppuramu speaks of Tamizh Nadu:
<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>My ancestor were warriors and military chiefs who were attached to the Ramanathpuram Samasthanam</b> and dedicated to the king Sethupathi Maharaja. I am a son of the Soil .Sethupathis have been tradtionally the protectors of Ram Serthu, and they take oath for that. <b>I have no other interest other than protecting this ancient monument.</b> Hence I represent all Hindus.
[...]
3. Q: You were a leftist in younger days; Leftists are generally known to be anti-Hindu, how come you were attracted towards religion and to Save Ramsethu?

DK: I was born in traditional and religious family. In college days, I was inclined towards leftist thinking. In 1984-85 I came in contact with Sri Atmananda Swami. I had extended debates with him for more than one year, and got convinced in the Spiritual principles. Since 1985 I have been associated with RSS. The Swami is now no more. He was my friend, Guru and guide.

[...]

<b><i>7. Q: What was the response from common people?</i>

DK: The response was overwhelming! We had an Anjaneya vigraha carved out of 'Atti' wood and we had planned for taking it to Danushkodi and arranged for the chanting of Ram Nama. We had deployed 360 Swayamsevaks to organize the japam. Suddenly we were overwhelmed by the presence of over one lakh (one hundred thousand) people! Everybody in Rameshwaram participated in the japam. Local people fed more than 40000 outsiders. We arranged local tractors to transport the people.</b>

<i>8. Q: Now, what is the situation?</i>
DK: Now Navy, Coast Guard and special police are deployed to prevent people from going near the site.

<i>
9. Q: What is your experience with the Judiciary?</i>

DK: A Good number of the judiciary are political appointees, this is the defacto standard from the lowest to the highest courts in the country. In Tamilnadu especially, the unwritten rule is one has to be in the good books of DMK, and tow DK idealogy to win a judge post. Even though the Judges may be faithful Hindus at home, they cannot openly profess their faith, and they will be branded as sanathani, if they are practising Hindus. Judges will not go against the political ideology of ruling party. The malady can be traced to the Indian Constitution.

The Constitution and law have inbuilt features that discriminates Hindus NEGATIVELY. Even those 15 % of judges who are independent and fair minded are also gagged. Even the Supreme Court is not free. Hindus cannot establish their human rights and religious rights through courts as we have seen in so many cases. The media is also against Hindus and gives negative propaganda for any Hindu cause.

Hindus have been betrayed by the rulers. we are victimized and politically we have been cheated and constitutionally demoted to fourth class citizens. Hindus cannot seek protection from the police nor establish their rights through courts as we have seen in so many cases. One has to belong to a Minority Community if you want a decent hearing ( a minority is largely understood to be Muslim or a Christian not Jains, Buddhists or Sikhs ), or member of a political party, or belonging to a SC/ST Community if the case has to admitted. Many cases filed by Hindu activists have been dismissed even at the time of submitting an application to the Court registrar.

As you know the Acharya Sabha's review petition has been dismissed by the Supreme Court. (This was in May 2007)... Even the Supreme Court is not free...he cites. Hindus will find it very difficult establish their rights through courts.Hindus have been betrayed by rulers, (*reiterates*) by practice we are victimized and politically we have been cheated, and constitutionally reduced to class iv citizens.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->So much for borat's imaginary musings on common people "bla bla bla".

In all my experience of free software, there was one, <i>only one</i> - among all those free apps I've come across on the net - that was by a communist. And as can be expected, the author's communitwit intelligence was so ... how to put it tactfully ... so sadly lacking, that the software was universally regarded by reviewers as being a total dud (and even if it had worked was the most un-innovative, useless thing anyway, as a number remarked). The example is reflective of communist 'contribution' in general. Totally useless.

Communitwits don't know any real common people. They just like *talking* (pontificating and preaching) about "poor people", and "food", and "classes" of people "struggling". It's 'cause they want to play saviour and implement their salvific solution, just like those others of The Monotheistic Tendencies. And yet the only thing communists have ever achieved (if it can be described as an achievement) is to brainwash good decent people into killing others/themselves/each other.

After which they invite themselves over to non-psecular, non-communist, non-confused places of interaction - say like IF - to try peddling their CommUtopian salvation stories all over again. It's but jeebusjehovallah and one more class of cannibal sheep.

<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->Borat is very much mistaken. Most people have merely observed that communists/leftists/marxists/leninists/maoists/stalinists/socialists (both of the red variety and the national socialists=nazi type) are suffering from *self-inflicted* mental retardation.
Of course, Bharatiyas also know that a leftist is not a Hindu but a mleccha. Bertrand Russell also correctly noted that communism/leftism is merely a christian heresy.

Not yet <i>more</i> references to imaginary friends! Is IF located so near an Institution Of Loose Nuts And Bolts that all its inmates sneak off to here? Brat's like a clone of "ravish". So very similar. But then, all Red Queens are clones - they're the same in every pack of cards.

The use of "our" in the above quoteblock by Escapee #2 From Looney Asylum is entertaining in and of itself. While Vishwas certainly has friends and acquaintances at IF (and is a familiar and friendly presence), barat has none - leastways not here. Another curiosity is the commie tactic of deflecting the terminology they earlier stole and tainted (the formerly respectable word "comrade" - before it fell into the hands of the KKKommunistas, that is) onto others. None here are blind. Everyone can clearly make out that barat's the Red Queen and that Vishwas isn't. If borat would only understand, there's no point trying to fool conscious Hindus: communist programming only works on the easily misled (borat's tragic case being a prime example).

HOUSTON: The story of Kusum Vyas, a Houston resident is exactly the kind of narrative many people would envy, explore or applaud - an exceptional woman from a very unusual part of the world who has dedicated her life and used her determination and force of character to put herself and her cause on the international stage.

Kusum Vyas was instrumental in organizing the first international meeting calling for the Gulf of Mannar to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The meeting was held at the historic Linnean Society of London from 25 – 26 November 2008. Linnean Society is where 150 years ago Charles Darwin, first presented his thesis about his theory of Evolution.

Kusum Vyas may not be a household name around the world - but she has been singularly effective in getting a panel of top experts to come together for the two-day meeting in London. The meeting attracted members from several organizations from around the world.

The overwhelming conclusion of the experts gathered at the Linnean was that the Gulf of Mannar has outstanding universal value as a biodiversity hotspot, as well as being a place of deep religious and sacred significance, and should remain intact for future generations.

On the first day of the London meeting, the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC) made the dramatic announcement that it would be seeking to have the Gulf of Mannar designated as one of the world’s first internationally recognized ‘Sacred Sites.’

Following agreements reached at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Barcelona last month, ‘Sacred Site’ is a now an international term of protection for sites that are spiritually, religiously, culturally and ecologically important.
Martin Palmer, Secretary General of ARC, and religion and ecology advisor made the announcement of nomination for Sacred Site status to His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Sacred Site nomination by ARC can only advance the cause for which Kusum Vyas has been fighting for the past 4 years - protecting the Gulf of Mannar and those whose lives are threatened by the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project. As she said recently: “It’s been a long haul and a daunting task to get the message out.

When you’re working with limited resources and from a place that is thousands of miles away from the Gulf of Mannar, there aren’t very many people who even know who you are or what you’re facing.”
Kusum Vyas feels that the nomination gives a deserving boost to the Campaign as it has generated additional publicity and support from several quarters. “I believe that the Gulf of Mannar should be protected and respected as a Sacred Site.
We are the custodians of what we find here during our time. We do not have the right to destroy everything in the name of development. Some things are priceless and must be left for every generation after us to enjoy as well. When the Taliban destroyed the Bamiyan statues, the world reacted with horror at their act of barbarism. What the Indian Government proposes to do to the Gulf of Mannar is no less barbaric.”

Kusum Vyas is calling upon Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri, Chair of the Nobel Prize Winning UN Panel on Climate Change to press upon the government of India to realize that with the Gulf of Mannar designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the government can leave a lasting legacy of reinvigorated hope for saving our cultural heritage and the Earth’s fragile environment for our future generations.

As Head of the newly constituted six-member experts committee appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to explore an alternative alignment for the SSCP, Dr. Pachauri is in a unique position to influence history in an a significant way.

VINODHINI

New Delhi

May 28: Newly sworn-in Cabinet minister M.K. Azhagiri on Thursday has promised to revive the controversial Sethu Samudram which was inaugurated in Madurai by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi during the previous UPA regime when T.R. Baalu was the Union shipping minister.

Visibly relaxed after the swearing in ceremony at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan, the elder son of the chief minister who won from Madurai parliamentary constituency by more than one lakh votes told this newspaper that the DMK manifesto had promised the people that the "prestigious" project would be revived despite opposition by some people on religious grounds.

"I will personally meet the Prime Minister in this regard. We will fulfill the promise we have given to the people," he said at Tamil Nadu Bhavan after the ceremony at Rashtrapathi Bhavan.

Sources said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had welcomed Mr Azhagiri into the Cabinet and asked him to perform well after the ceremony.

The project inaugurated in July 2005 involves dredging along the Palk Strait to form a shipping channel enable ships to pass along the canal instead of taking a circuitous route around Sri Lanka.

The project ran into controversy after activists protested over the environmental damage and Hindu religious groups claimed it would damage the "Ram Sethu" bridge believed to be built by Lord Rama to cross over to Lanka in order to rescue his wife. Reacting guardedly to being made a minister, he said, "All ministers from Tamil Nadu will work towards the growth of the country and our state."

Quote:Ram sethu in Chola inscriptions.

The Thiruvaalangadu copper plates discovered in 1905,

contains a verse on Ram Sethu (verse 80),

supposed to have been written in the 6th year of reign of Chola king, Rajendra Chola-I

http://www.whatisindia.com/inscriptions/...ikala.html

The translation of the verse written in sanskrit is as follows:

(Verse. 80.)

" The lord of the Raghavas (i.e., Rama) constructing a bridge across the water of

the ocean with (the assistance of) able monkeys, killed with great difficulty the

king of Lanka (i.e., Ravana) with sharp-edge arrows ; (but) this terrible General

of that (king Arunmolivarman) crossed the ocean by ships and burnt the Lord of

Lanka (Ceylon). Hence Rama is (surely) surpassed by this (Chola General). "

The Chola general mentioned here is Arulmoli varman (of "Ponniyin Selvan'' fame)

who later crowned as Rajaraja chola.

He was the father of Rajendra Chola-I on whose order this information

was written on the copper plate.

It somehow irks to read this comparison with Rama that the chola king surpassed him.

Usually kings of those times used to project themselves as equal to or a shred below Gods,

but never as surpassing Gods.

Arulmoli varman himself would not have agreed to such a note getting to be inscribed.

If written so by a poet, it may be granted as a poetic license.

But a king of staure such as Rajeandra Chola

authorising such a note, smacks of something else.

Perhaps the rhetorics by the likes of Karunanidhi can be traced to

medieval mind-set of the Tamil kings (such as this one)

who assumed greater than God image...

http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.com/2...tions.html

Quote:It is not necessary to enter into a spiritual discourse but refer to 1) a copper-plate inscription (called Velanjeri copper plate) of Parantaka Chola of the 10th century which refers to the Chola king worshipping Setu teertham and offering tulaabhaaram; and 2) a record of Vivekanada's worship at Rama Setu. (See annex).

Parantaka Chozhar was also responsible for getting the roof ot the Chidambaram kovil covered in gold.
