Done a detailed analysis of foreign funding into India from 2002-03 to 2006-07. The attached file has tables of top donor countries, top donor organizations, top state wise receipts, top district wise receipts and top names of recipient organizations (imp). The key points are â

Â Â * Between 1993-94 and 2006-07 a sum of Rs 64,670 crs was the sum of Foreign Contributions received into India by organizations registered with the Home Ministry Govt of India and who filed their declarations.
Â Â * Total funds received per annum have gone up from Rs 1865 to 12290 crs (1993-94 to 2006-07) i.e. an increase of 650%
Â Â * The % of Associations submitting details of foreign contributions has fallen from 66% in 1997-98 to 56% in 2006-07. That means that the actual amount of foreign contributions received is much higher than the reported Rs 12,290 crs in 2006-07.
Â Â * Foreign contributions have increased by over 100% since UPA came to power.
Â Â * Top remitting countries are USA, Germany and UK. Amounts remitted between 2002-03 to 2006-07 are Rs 10,589 crs, Rs 5,233 crs and Rs 4,612 crs.
Â Â * Top Donor Agencies in these years are Western read Christian except for a contribution from Liaison Office Dalai Lama Japan in 2006-07.
Â Â * Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra are top receivers of foreign contributions.
Â Â * Tamil Nadu receipts jumped from Rs 775 crs in 2002-03 to Rs 2244 crs in 2006-07, nearly a 200% increase.
Â Â * Chennai, Ranchi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Uttara Kanada, Hyderabad are amongst the districts who received maximum foreign contributions.
Â Â * Many districts of Tamil Nadu received over Rs 100 crs each in 2006-07.
Â Â * Key Donors do not appear from the Muslim world. Means they are remitting in large sums through the Hawala route or not remitting in large numbers.Â

A friend sent me a mail that gave details of funds received in 2006-07 from the Western world primarily Christian countries of USA, UK, Germany and Spain. That got me wondering! Why are these countries pouring thousands of crores into India? If it is because many Indians are poor, then are no poor people in their countries? Questions like these and media reports of conversions to Christianity in Orissa prompted me to do a google search on the subject.

Inward remittances by NGOâs are governed by the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 1976 or FCRA for short. To know more http://www.mha.nic.in/fcra.htm. I visited the site and got the Ministry of Home Affairs Reports for the years 2003-04 to 2006-07.

Cant find the natural religions thread..

I heard on NPR today that Mexicans, out of fear of the drug violence that has gripped Mexico, have started worship (renewed worship) of Santa Muerte, the Goddess of Death. They ask her for protection, She is worshipped as a skeleton, decked with ornaments and feathers. Catholicristochurch, of course, thinks this is "satanic". Mexicans dont care. One of the worshippers was heard on radio saying something in spanish which was translated by the radio voive over as "there is no God as powerful as you".

Also, it seems, shrines to Santa M are financed by drug lords.

Some worshippers said they wanted to return to their roots. This worship, NPR said, is Aztec or Urubi (sp) brought over by African slaves.

It's not just the church and the clergy, it's christianism: abuse is institutionalised by christianism, abuse does not merely happen in christian institutions. Heathens should stop protecting the terrorist ideology by deflecting its crimes onto merely 'church', 'priests', 'evangelicals', 'missionaries'. The church is a hierarchy of professing christians. Priests, evangelicals and missionaries are professing christians. The christian mob which tried to murder Swami Lakshmanananda at the end of 2007 consisted of professing christians. The christian maoists who murdered him at the end of 2008 were professing christians. It's lay professing christians that vandalise Korean Buddhist temples.
And all of them are guided in their crimes by what they profess: christianism.
People keep talking about the church and missionaries and christoterrorists as if they somehow follow an ideology different from christianism.

So deep is the disarray caused by insider accounts of sexual abuse and moral depravity in the Kerala Catholic church that the authorities have failed to come up with a coherent response even two weeks after âAmenâ hit the bestseller ceiling in Malayalam bookstores. Two editions have already been sold out.

Having beheld for decades the mote and the beam in the eyes of the church, Dr. Sister Jesme Raphael has shown extraordinary courage to witness what happened to her and other nuns who entered the church in good faith, expecting to lead lives of virtue and service to god and society. What actually happened behind the closed convent doors was rampant exploitation of nuns by priests and same sex relations. In other words, stories similar to those pouring out of catholic monasteries in every Western society.

The insider-victim who bears witness gives added poignancy and weightage to the account of a woman who struggled and suffered for three decades in a vain attempt to be a bride of Christ and not a plaything of men. Sister Jesme was no ordinary nun; a professor of English and principal of St. Mary's College in Thrissur, she finally quit the Congregation of Mother Carmelite after attempts to admit her to the notorious Divine Life institution and declare her insane, and also to âopen a little window to allow some light to enter into the sufferings of hundreds of women.â

The timing could not be more apt. The book comes close in the heels of the arrest of two nuns in the Sister Abhaya rape-cum-murder case, which the Catholic Church struggled to suppress for 16 long years; the recent suicide of Sister Anupama Mary in Kollam; her father alleged sex abuse by convent superiors. More recently, the Kerala Church hit the headlines following the controversial adoption of a 26-year-old woman by a bishop â an event which forced the authorities to order an enquiry into the legality of the act. Stories of enormous pressure on Sister Jesme, even monetary inducements, to cease writing her autobiography are hardly surprising.

Amenâs explicit account of sexual repression and harassment, draconian rules and âgreedâ of the Order, make sad reading. Though official catholic dogma abhors sexual relations of all kinds, same sex relations are especially despised, yet paradoxically flourish with a vengeance. Sister Jesme recounts being forced into a relationship by a fellow nun who said she preferred such a liaison as it avoided the pitfalls of pregnancy â this seems to suggest that the said nun arrived at this form of sexual solace after some experimentation.

The unhappy truth behind this revelation would be that many nuns are young girls who might like to marry and have children, should circumstances permit. This lends weightage to observations that the church is making ârecruitmentsâ at a tender age of girls whose families are too poor to resist inducements or pressure.

Sister Jesme recalls an encounter with a priest in Bangalore en route to Dharwar for a UGC refresher course in English. She originally planned to stay at the waiting room of Bangalore railway station, but some convent sisters suggested staying with a âpious, decent priest;â he personally received her at Bangalore. After breakfast, the priest took her to the Lalbagh Botanical Garden and showed her myriad couples cuddling behind the trees. And contrary to the official dogma, he âgave a sermon on the necessity of physical love and described the illicit affairs certain bishops and priests had.â On returning to his room, he stripped and forced her to do the same.

She could not have been his first or last victim. And given the fact that he could be so bold with a nun encountered only by chance, it is chilling to think what he would be doing to ordinary nuns and lay Christian girls and women coming to his presbytery. It is unlikely that church authorities are unaware of the dark side of his life; Sister Jesme says they willfully turned a blind eye to such major transgressions by superiors.

Sadly, this is the suppressed truth of the church, as scrupulously documented by three priests in âSex, Priests, and Secret Codes. The Catholic Churchâs 2000-year Paper Trail of Sexual Abuse,â by Thomas P. Doyle, A.W. Richard Sipe and Patrick J. Wall, Volt Press, Los Angeles, 2006.

Written after scandals and lawsuits began to rock America, the book demonstrates that sexual abuse of minor boys, girls, women, by priests can be traced back to the time records were kept! The authors found a conspiracy of silence allows sexual abuse to prosper. Only pressure of exorbitant lawsuits and settlements that endangered church assets finally triggered some church concern about rampaging sexual predators in its ranks.

From as early as the fourth century, the church consistently failed to get clerics to observe the vows of chastity. In the earliest days when priests were allowed to marry, it told them to avoid sex; when celibacy became mandatory, it passed laws against concubinage! It condemned homosexuality and sexual abuse of minors by clergy, and solicitation of sex by priests in the confessional.

The Council of Elvira (Spain, 309 CE) regulated clerical sexual behaviour. Canon 18 punished any bishop, priest, or deacon found to be a sexual offender with deprivation of Holy Communion even at death. Canon 27 forbade bishops or clerics from having unrelated women living with them; Canon 33 ordered married clerics to completely abstain from sex with their wives. Canon 65 ex-communicated clerics who knowingly neglected to denounce adulterous wives; and Canon 71 (not specifically aimed at clergy) condemned sex between adult men and young boys.

St. Peter Damianâs Book of Gomorrah (1051) attacked the sexual immorality of the clergy of his time and the lax superiors who failed to curb it. He condemned priests who defiled men or boys coming for confession, and priests who gave the sacrament of penance to their own victims. He urged Pope Leo IX to act to redress the damage caused by offending clerics â the response was a model of inaction, a prelude to the experience of our own era.

The Kerala catholic nun's book is coming out in an English translation. Perfect timing to be included in California's textbooks so American kids can learn more about the wonders of christianism (including how all of the christian sexual abuse junk - aka christian junk - that the west has been familiar with since the beginning of christianism has been injected into Bharatam).

Atlanticists despise Latin American socialists, but eagerly embrace socialist firebrands in Asia. A shrewd observation. When business forces become too threatening for their comfort, go with the socialist firebrigands. When socialists become too powerful, support business interests. Keep them fighting while simultaneously administering constant dose of Greco-Roman / Judeo-Christian (GRJC) sensibilities and propaganda that will seem like the solution to all the difficulties. Constantly bombard the public with predictions, backed by "research", about where India is going to be in the next 40 years making sure that your predictions coincide with where you want it to go. If it is not going where you want it to go, take measures to correct the trajectory or decrease the step size. If it is still not going where you want it to go, then go with the flow and make your predictions coincide with where it is going - that way you seem like you are always right.

A full fledged bottom up thought process and discussion carried out by Indians to unify the different strands of Indian culture is what is most threatening to them as that will undermine the GRJC "solution". Any youth displaying too much originality of thought is conveniently distracted by nauseating love songs, other excruciatingly loud music, and/or horrifyingly graphic Hollywood movies. Bollywood has chosen to compete with this by turning up the volume even louder (though I say better Bollywood than Hollywood), although they figure that imitating the graphic stuff won't get them past the censors. Ensure that a small minority retain sufficient sanity by identifying talented but somewhat conformist students at the school level and admitting them to the best GRJC schools. Send them for "leadership" conferences to prepare them to be strongly placed to accept important posts in government and industry.

Continue until GRJC is accepted by all major groups. Mission was already accomplished in Latin America - the challenge is to preserve it there. In India the job is unfinished.

Given the current economic collapse however, they are not in a position to go overboard with the finances. However this is a game that is played to a large extent using educational institutions and the media. In particular the latter is comparatively inexpensive. So, in the absence of financial wherewithal, one can expect carpet bombing from media institutions as we go into the future. We already see delightful articles written about India and its malcontents - almost like they were penned by RAPE next door. When the current furore about the economy dies down and people get used to their new life one can expect fresh gutter inspections and moral posturing from media institutions. The more hallowed the institution the greater will be the intensity of bombardment - a dose of bankruptcy does wonders for the moral fibre.

Interesting times ahead.

INDIA: POVERTY, AND CLICHES SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

How else that Slumdog Millionaire, which literally defecating on India from the first frame (a child who plunges into a sea of crap to get an autograph of Amitabh Bacchan), is a tobacco? Some scenes from the film are, however, in the perverted imagery of director Danny Boyle, because we can not find them in the book by Vikas Swarup, an Indian diplomat, whose film is based. The hero of the film (which is not Muslim, but many religions: Ram Mohammad Thomas) does not pass his childhood in Bombay, but in a Catholic orphanage in Delhi. Jamal's mother is not killed by "Hindu fanatics' in the book, but she abandons her baby, of unknown religion in a church. Jamal torture is not a television presenter, but an American who wants the Russian who bought the television rights of the game. The scene of tears three children abandoned in the rain is also not in the book. Jamal and his heroine from colliding when they are teenagers and they live in an apartment and not in a slum.

And finally, yes, there still exists in India of poverty and glaring gaps between rich and poor, but those who know something about the slums of Bombay, know that most of the inhabitants belong to the whole ' small 'middle class (relative to income in India) that every house in the slums has a TV antenna and most of the residents worked in the city.

When the West lay there another way of looking at India, more just, free of prejudices still attached to this country that should supplant China in this century? But this will require a new generation of Indiana more sincere, less tied to outdated values, rises in France ...

These were the slogans raised inside court room 3 of Madras High Court by a team of lawyers who threw eggs on Dr. Subramanian Swami, who was seeking to implead himself in support of the Dikshitars in the Chidambaram Temple case, listed for hearing on 17 February 2009.

A group of lawyers belonging to pro-LTTE political parties and outfits has been boycotting the court proceedings thereby preventing other sincere lawyers from doing their duty, since January end. They have been engaged in a daily practice of going around the corridors in procession inside the Madras High Court shouting slogans against the Sri Lankan government and in support of Sri Lankan Tamils (read LTTE).

These same lawyers are also supporting the government's takeover of the Chidambaram Temple. On learning that Dr. Swami was going to implead himself in the Chidambaram case, they utilised the moment with the triple motive of attacking Dr. Swami for his anti-LTTE stand, abusing the Brahmin community, and preventing the Chidambaram Temple case from being taken up for arguments.
(This is VERY MUCH christianism. Well-planned and executed to make it look like it is merely the usual sort of hamitic 'dravidoid'=christian hooliganism.)

They entered the third court shouting slogans, threw a number of eggs on Dr. Swami's face, and some eggs near the well of the room, spoiling the records and furnitures. A few lawyers pushed him from behind and tried to assault him. When police officers attempted to protect Dr. Swami, unruly lawyers thrashed Assistant Commissioner Kadar Mohideen, pushed him, and prevented other officers from entering the court hall. Some more lawyers who swelled inside the hall attempted to close the other entry to prevent the personal security guards of Dr. Swami, who has 'Z' category security cover, from entering the hall.

Smt. Radha Rajan, Editor, www.vigilonline.com,Â Smt. Uma Anandan, Sri T R Ramesh and this writer, who were present in the visitors' section, objected to the lawyers' abusing the Brahmin community inside the courtroom. A male lawyer assaulted Smt. Rajan, and when we tried to protect her some blows landed on our hands too. The lawyers threatened and abused us. A female lawyer attempted to pounce on Smt. Rajan and hurled more derogatory remarks. The melee lasted about fifteen to twenty minutes; finally the unruly mob vacated the hall.

Later, the division bench allowed the personal security guards of Dr. Swami to take positions around him. Dr. Swami complained about the ugly incident and requested the bench to pronounce an order as everything happened in the presence of the honourable judges. He requested adjournment of the case as there was no security for him and other litigants inside the court hall. He told the division bench that he would take up the issue with the Supreme Court. Mr. Justice P K Mishra was very critical and asked the government pleader Raja Kalifullah to explain why police protection was not given.

The government pleader replied that, âThe police need the permission of the Chief Justice to enter the hall, as there is an earlier order restricting the police from entering the court room and the available police is enough only to give protection outside the hall and for protecting the advocates,â When Justice Mishra reminded him of the presence of a posse of policemen seeing their own officer getting thrashed by unruly lawyers, the pleader said, âIt is very unfortunate that a respectable person like Dr. Swami has been attacked.â

For this the bench criticised the government pleader and said, âthe respectability of a person is immaterial. Even a hardcore criminal who is present in the court attending his case must be given protection.â It asked, âdoes the government expect this court to remind it of its duties?â and added, âit is a shameful incident. No right thinking citizen would tolerate this type of an incident and it is a national shame.â

Adjourning the Chidambaram case for further hearing on 19 February 2009, the judges said they would also forward their order to the acting Chief Justice to take severe action against lawyers involved in the shameful act. They said the order would be sent to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court as well.

Coming out of the court hall, Dr. Swami addressed the press and said, âThe attack is a clear indication of the breakdown of Constitution and prevalence of lawlessness in the state under the DMK government. There is no security for litigants even inside the court hall. If a bunch of unruly elements including lawyers could disrespect the law, dishonour the court and act in defiance of the Constitution, then one can imagine what sort of governance is happening and how the law and order situation has deteriorated in the state. A group of lawyers have been preventing the functioning of the courts for the last two to three weeks and they have been supporting the cause of a terrorist organisation of another country at the cost of the rights and interests of the citizens of this country and this is an act, which has resulted out of anti-national attitude.â

Condemning the incident, he said, âThe DMK government doesn't have the right to continue in office any more and it deserves to be dismissed.â He reminded the people that both Chief Minister Karunanidhi and his son M K Stalin have taken central police protection as they do not repose trust and confidence in the state police force, and asked, âwere these policemen not Tamils?â

Dr. Swami, who faced severe attacks and humiliation during Indira Gandhi's emergency and Jayalalithaaâs first tenure (in the same High Court premises), was undaunted by the attack by âDravidianâ lawyers who tried to take the law in to their own hands. He said he would lodge a complaint with the Bar Council and demanded the impugned lawyers be debarred for life.

In this context, it may be noted that a few months ago a magistrate of the district sessions court in Chennai was assaulted by an advocate; the judiciary, instead of bringing the concerned lawyer to book, preferred a âdialogueâ with the lawyers for an amicable solution! Such a compromising attitude only emboldens advocates and the assault upon police inside the court premises is only further evidence of the deterioration of ethical standards among the legal fraternity.

The recent incident in Law College, involving law students, is a grim indicator of what lies ahead. Even as Dr. Swami was addressing the media, many lawyers could be seen abusing him, hurling invectives at him and the Brahmin community, and blaming the media for giving him more space. At the same time, a section of law-abiding advocates were visibly upset at the happenings and aired their anger privately over the conduct of the unruly section of their fraternity.

Meanwhile, acting on the complaint of Assistant Commissioner Kadar Mohideen, the city police has arrested a lawyer named Kiniliyo Immanuel for alleged involvement in the incident; he is among the twenty lawyers against whom the police have registered cases.

The BJP was the only political party which condemned the attack on Dr. Swami; even the main opposition AIADMK refrained. The state BJP blamed the government for not providing security and alleged that the government itself might have been behind this incident. Certainly the state government fears Dr. Swami might win the case in favour of the Dikshitars and thus save the Chidambaram Temple from hostile takeover, much in the manner in which he triumphed over the UPA government in the Setu Samundram case and helped protect the sacred Rama Setu.

The author is a senior journalist; he lives in ChennaiMeanwhile, people will keep thinking all this is just a psecular coincidence. There's a reason to out crypto-christianism everywhere it exists, but Hindus will insist on protecting it by protecting crypto-christians' christian identities. This sort of thing is the direct result of Hindus' psecular attitude of protectionism towards christianism. I wish to register my very strong protest that there was no police inside the premises of the Justice Srikrishna Judicial Enquiry Commission constituted to look into the events of February 19.

I, Radha Rajan, Smt. Uma Anandan, Shri T Ramesh and Shri BR Haran, came to the venue on Greenway's Road to depose before Justice Srikrishna. There was great hostility to our presence.

In the afternoon a group of lawyers approached us menacingly wanting to know why we were present at the venue and who had invited us. They asked the Registrar Shri Vijayan to evict us. The Registrar tried to make them see reason and spoke persuasively but without success.

The situation was fast becoming ugly and the Registrar, instead of making sure that we were allowed to exercise our constitutional right to depose before the Commission actually asked us to leave. He asked us to give our deposition in writing which he said he would hand over to Justice Srikrishna.

The group of lawyers continued to intimidate us by asking us why we were there, in what capacity and what were we going to say to Justice Srikrishna and when we refused firmly to discuss anything with them and also politely told the Registrar that we were not leaving until we had deposed before the Enquiry Commission, the situation was tense and really ugly.

Mr. Commissioner, I am surprised that the advocates took the position that the Commission of Enquiry has been constituted only for them to depose before Justice Srikrishna with regard to the events of February 19. They did not want any one to raise the events of February 17 which alone caused February 19.

Knowing that these lawyers were capable of unleashing violence at the drop of the hat, I am surprised Sir and appalled that there was no police in the venue.Â The situation could have turned very violent. I am unable to understand how, when no person inside the venue had the capacity to protect ordinary citizens from these violent lawyers, is it possible to conduct a fair and impartial enquiry if these lawyers were going to frighten away individuals and groups who they thought could influence the commission in a manner detrimental to their goal.

I am sorry the police did not think it was necessary to be present to protect ordinary citizens. You have, with your absence, allowed the lawyers to control the venue and have in fact given them the authority to decide who will be present, who will depose and what will be said.

Please forgive me my strong language Sir. But after the violence in Court Hall 3 about which we came to depose before Justice Srikrishna, to be intimidated by lawyers again at the venue of the commission of enquiry, in the presence of the Registrar, makes me wonder how an entire state and its administrative mechanism can be held hostage by a few hundred lawyers who will not hesitate to unleash violence ofwhen crossed or challenged.

I register my strong protest Sir and outrage.

The clash of the Police and the Legal fraternity happened when the Police came to arrest a bunch of the attackers.

Andhra Pradesh is a State which has âGod Consciousnessâ. Hence, we would like to request the Legal Fraternity of our State to clarify on which incident they would be protesting before proceeding with their program of action scheduled on 27/02/09.

(In India, the scavenging, lying christomedia eats away at the resilience.)Islamism isn't the only ideology that refuses to obey the secular laws of a pagan nation. Christianism will not accept the secular rule of pagan society: it must have christian (via christian-infiltrated) rule. Hindus don't see it. Hindus only see the christomedia's reports on the TN matter (christo-ownership of the media gives all the visibility to those perceptions which they wish to instill), and are taught to interpret the situation differently. Besides, Hindus will insist on being psecular - too psecular to care. Already said, but Hindus are too short-sighted. I'm sure they can drum up some public sympathy for their intentions, the way their christomedia has been misrepresenting what's really been happening in this orchestrated christofiasco.
(Then again, this is predictable too. Once christianism gets people to choose to believe in christian fables - like the japhetic-hamitic nonsense - the rest of the consequences are pure inevitability. Every believer will play the part scripted for them to the end. And if there is one thing that people can blindly put their money on, it's that modern Indians - whatever their ancestral affiliation - will certainly believe anything. Secularism is gaining ground in the United States, eating away at the percentage of Americans who identify with the Protestant Christianity of the founding fathers, a poll published on Monday showed.

The percentage of Americans who adhered to no particular religion jumped from 8.2 per cent in 1990 to 15 per cent last year, the third American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS) conducted over 10 months last year by pollsters from Trinity College in Connecticut, showed.

When the survey was conducted in 2001, 14.1 per cent of respondents said they were not religious.

"Americans are slowly becoming less Christian... The challenge to Christianity does not come from other world religions or new religious movements, but rather from a rejection of all organised religions," said a report of last year's survey, in which 54,461 people took part.

The percentage of Christians in the United States declined slightly between 2001 and 2008 from 76.7 per cent to 76 per cent, after seeing a precipitous fall since 1990, when 86.2 per cent said they were Christian.

Most of the decline was seen in mainline Protestant religions, while the greatest growth was among people who identified only as Christian, evangelical or born-again, or as non-denominational Christians, whom the study associates with mega churches.

The number of so-called mega church Christians has shot heavenward since 1990, when there were less than 200,000 non-denominational Christians, to more than eight million in 2008, the study showed.

Meanwhile, the percentage of people who identified as Methodists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Episcopalians/Anglicans or members of the United Church of Christ fell from 18.7 per cent in 1990 to 17.2 per cent in 2001, and just under 13 per cent in 2008.

"It looks like the two-party system of American Protestantism - mainline versus evangelical - is collapsing," Mark Silk, director of the Public Values Program at Trinity College, which conducted the survey, said in a statement.

"A generic form of evangelicalism is emerging as the normative form of non-Catholic Christianity," he said.

Catholicism was the single dominant Christian religion last year, with 25.1 per cent of survey respondents identifying as Catholic.

Many mainline Protestant groups are riven by conflict over how they should interpret what the Bible says about gay relationships, salvation and other issues.

The percentage of Pentecostals remained mostly steady since 1990 at 3.5 percent, a surprising finding considering the dramatic spread of the tradition worldwide. Pentecostals are known for a spirited form of Christianity that includes speaking in tongues and a belief in modern-day miracles.

Mormon numbers also held steady over the period at 1.4 percent of the population, while the number of Jews who described themselves as religiously observant continued to drop, from 1.8 percent in 1990 to 1.2 percent, or 2.7 million people, last year. Researchers plan a broader survey on people who consider themselves culturally Jewish but aren't religious.

The study found that the percentage of Americans who identified themselves as Muslim grew to 0.6 percent of the population, while growth in Eastern religions such as Buddhism slightly slowed.

Â Apart from the fact that there are poor Christians in their millions in the west, and the even more horrible fact that foreign funds are being used to convert poor people in rural and poor urban areas to Christianity at a breakneck pace (I will give less importance to the Islamic terrorist organisations, since they are fully condemned in the media and in public discourse, while the thousand times more dangerous Christian missionary forces, who are converting millions, are the subject of praise and official protection and encouragement!), there is one more fact about the missionary funds which is generally ignored: the corruption factor. For example, Mother Teresa's mission also received thousands of crores of foreign donations (apart from donations from Indian state governments and self-alienated Hindus). Even if she had distributed one lakh rupees each per person, the poverty of lakhs of poor Indians would have been "alleviated" forever. Yet the number of persons actually "saved" by the "mother" runs into a few thousands, many of whom were reportedly people dying on the streets, who were "tended" and converted before their death. Does no-one wonder how the discrepancies in input and output fits in with the reported saintliness of this much-propagandized "mother" and her mission?Â

One of the important resolutions passed by the working committee of DMK at its meeting held on February 16 under the presidentship of Shri M. Karunanidhi urged the people of Tamil Nadu to literally âdrive outâ from the Tamil soil the three per cent of the population. The resolution did not specify as to who were these three per cent but those who are used to the Tamil Nadu socio-political scenario know pretty well that it refers to none other than Brahmins in the State.

Since 1920s, Dravidian Movement has been spearheading a hate campaign against Brahmins branding them intruders from Khyber and Bolan passes into Tamil Nadu, corrupting the chaste Tamil culture and tradition. It may look ridiculous at the very first glance, fit to be thrown into the dustbin without a second look but strangely, EVR and his Dravidar Kazagam party could sell this concept to the gullible illiterate and semi literate people of Tamil Nadu. This concept was conveniently based on Aryan-Dravidian theory, cunningly constructed about two centuries ago by the wily Caldwell, a Christian missionary and proselytiser, who wanted to divide Hindu society so that he could easily convert the non-Brahmin communities calling them Dravidians, a separate entity. Despite Brahmins of Tamil Nadu speaking Tamil only at homes as their mother tongue and several of them had done great service for the development of the language and culture, they were described as aliens to Tamil language and culture.

Caldwell's interest in and facility with languages spawned what many consider was his major contribution to the region in which he served. He succeeded in establishing the link between the languages of the various peoples of the area. Tamil, he found, was the most cultivated and a much older language than was thought as it could stand alone and flourish without its Sanskrit terms. This research combined with his historical work showed there was a common cultural heritage among those who spoke what he termed the "Dravidian" languages, thereafter also referred to as the 'South-Indian family of languages'. Caldwell then wrote the ground-breaking 'Comparative Grammar' of the Dravidian Group (1856 & revised 1875), which was at the time described as "a revelation" to Indian and Western scholars.

All this literary effort had unforeseen effects. It helped to give a linguistic and cultural identity to the lower castes and Tamils in particular which they were quick to embrace. It brought thousands into the Christian church giving them access to education, and has grown over the intervening years to raise the status of many lower caste Christians in South India. In effect, Caldwell launched a Dravidian movement, but it was much broader than he can ever have envisaged. Now widely known as "the Tamil Renaissance", it has had a profound effect across all faiths of this region. In this transformation, Caldwell's role as "a pioneer Dravidian linguist" was acknowledged in 1968 when his statue was among eight erected on the Marina Beach at Chennai (Madras). Today he is still discussed by many who were simply the beneficiaries of the Tamil revival and the Non-Brahmin movement as a whole to which he was an important stimulus.

One wonders how Caldwell found the time to pursue his literary studies. In his journal he describes a punishing schedule. The bulk of this work was done on the long voyages of four months round the Cape or when staying in the Ashambu Hills or at Kodaikanal in the Palanis where he went in the hot season or to regain his health. On these occasions he invariably worked for six hours a day (excepting Sunday). Even while doing missionary work around the villages he was generally but not always able to devote two hours a day to his books.

In India every debate on conversion to Christianity ends with Hindu society's caste-based "poison of divisions". Missionaries and their supporters present conversion as the only "antidote" available. And missionaries are "doctors," hell bent on administering that antidote! And our "secularists" have been repeating it.

"Caste" was an old weapon of missionaries who established the conversion business in India. Anti-Brahminism, "Dravidianism," conversion as "the solution" to caste and the Aryan-Dravidian divide were effectively introduced as stratagems for conversion by Bishop Robert Caldwell. In his book "Christianity explained to Hindus: Christianity and Hinduism compared" (1893), he wrote that caste first arose from difference of race; people with black skin were "original inhabitants of India" (p. 20).

"On the other hand", he wrote, "Christianity teaches that God gave us life and continually preserves us. He is therefore our Father in heavenâ¦ The Brotherhood of man follows Fatherhood of Godâ¦ But Hinduism makes life a curse instead of a blessing" (p. 20-21). Caldwellâs arguments are well known. His "Dravidian Grammar" was a trend-setter. But why did he painstakingly write so many books? If we read his lecture, "Progress of Christianity in India" we get the answer.

He says, "an encouraging amount of interest in the progress of Christianity has now at last been awakened, and a demand for information has been excited: it is now felt that a great door and effectual has been opened to us in India, and that the conversion of India to Christ is one of the greatest works, if not the great work, to which the Church and nation of England are called" (Lectures on the Tinnevelly Missions, 1857, p. 4).
(Rather reminiscent of what his fellow christian Max Mueller wrote.)

For sheer audacity and bigotry, Caldwell could today be called a "cultural terrorist". Yet his views are endorsed by a section of India's "secular" intelligentsia! They were reiterated in Karnataka's recent public debate on conversion.(rest at link)

Priest admits to idol worship in churches
BANGALORE: In a revelation that could have widespread ramifications, Father Joseph Menengis, priest of St James Church in Mariyannapalya, Bangalore, confessed before the Justice B K Somashekara Commission of Inquiry on Wednesday that idol worship was being performed in churches to attract Hindus and convert them to Christianity.
The Commission is inquiring into the recent attacks on churches in Karnataka.
âHindus believe in idol worship. So to attract them to Christianity, idol worship is performed in churches,â Menengis said.
During cross-examination, the priest said that âdespite idol worship being prohibited in Bible, we have idol worship in churches.â âThe duty of every Christian is to convert non-Christians to Christianity by any means,â the priest told the commission.
St James Church was attacked by miscreants on September 21, 2008.
The church is running co-education institutions, with classes from first to eight standard.
During cross-examination the priest confessed that âno girl students are permitted to use kumkum, bangles and wear flowers. In our institution, we have moral science textbook.
But it does not contain texts regarding Holy Bible and Jesus,â the priest added.
The commission has requested the priest to submit the textbook to it.
