Questions Related To India-forum Website
#81
Now that a forum such as this is up and running I would just like to say a couple of things that I feel may be the way forward:

All internet fora develop into a kind of club of like minded people. But that like mindedness should be a function of independent thought and action and not the result of being "against someone else" (as in "We are not Indians")

It is very important for the growth of a forum that it should not get into mindless competition with any other forum. Very early on, on BRF I found that there was a kind of competition developing between BRF and PakDef which was not doing BRF any good. I don't think it was doing PakDef any good either but I never lurled there long enough to find out.

Instead of a forum charting its own path, it can easily get bogged down by what other people are saying in other fora. This is exactly what I found happening between BRF and PakDef, with people being more concerned about the "external validation" from the other forum, trying to outdo people from the other forum and trying to bring arguments and discssions from one place to another. In short a subconsciuos "tying up" of the two fora was occuring. I think I was instrumental in putting an end to that problem on BRF.

I urge that this forum should not get into competition with any other forum and not even BRF. I think this forum and BRF can seriously complement each other. There are things that can be discussed on here which I would myself disallow on BRF, having been involved with guiding the ethos of that forum almost from its inception.

I will come on here from time to time. I really am trying to keep off the net to write my book and am not succeeding. But there are things to discuss - and one topic on my mind is Godhra and the way it is being interpreted and used by various lobbies. I have some views - which I may put up as a new thread, or as part of another thread.

But not right now, I need to get off the frigging net for a while.

Good suggestion Deepan about a store. I think a good idea is to start with a book store. Will think about this and have as a goal to have it running by the new year, if the admins are agreeable.

Good points shiv. While there may be superficial similarities, we have consciously tried not to make an attempt to ape BRF either in structure as well as content. Further there is very little reaction here (for the most part) to what is posted in BR. I do not think we will get heavily into the microanalysis of the Pakistani milito-mullahcracy( i may of course be rash in predicting this) or the heavy emphasis on weapons which seems to be the forte of BR.

OTOH, we do have a definite interest in strategic issues. After the fracas involving one of your admins and HH, we definitely got the impression that the BR strat forum was not welcome in BR any more and to the extent that it does exist it seems to increasingly focus on short term tactical issues and current affairs rather than long term strat issues. Be that as it may, we plan to build up a pretty strong forum on strategic security issues as we move along. Our particular emphasis and premise will be based on an observation that the future of the Indic civilization and the strategic security of India are inextricably linked. This premise has been generally discouraged from being pursued in BR.

As a matter of policy we will not turn away or expel anybody simply because one fine morning a moderator decides he does not like the views of the member. Neither do we plan to target a member for entrapment in a 'gotcha' mode, in order to artificially maintain like-mindedness. But it is unavoidable that members who have been so expelled elsewhere harbor a special feeling that they or IF will not act in a similar manner.

In any event I am certain your participation will definitely enrich IF and whether you choose to wear a different thinking cap while posting here or the same one , is entirely up to you.

All said and done, while we may not consciously seek it, a certain amount of competition is inevitable. In short, we neither avoid it nor seek it. As i have said in a previous post, each site develops its own personality over time, depending on the ethos of the collective membership and we will let the chips fall where they may.

Competition is in last thing in my mind concerning IF, that too against BRF, i don't think so at all. As strat and cultural threads are frowned upon in BRF, we here don't allow mil threads. <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> We are running for 1000 and 2000 mts while BRF is running for 100 and 500 mts dash, we are not in direct conflict at all.Though their will be competiton within the athletes(as K mentioned, good healthy competition), remeber we are all running for TEAM INDIA. :guitar

I agree. <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> But now is not the right time i think, our priority now should be to develop IF Graduate

To all members, mods, admins at IF and BRF, wheather our opinions agree or disagree on any or all issues, we should always stay united, we should not fight among ourselves, last time we did we lost to moghuls and the british. Graduate

Absolutely. Too often India has succumbed in the past to the jinx of India, the Jaichand syndrome where we have lacked unity in the face of the enemy. Which is why IF should and will not make the propounding of controversial ideas a reason for banning people, as long as guidelines are observed. We will also generally discourage the use of polemic :argue for its own sake.

Bhootnath,

What happened (is happenng) outside of this place should be settled outside.

Please don't make this a battleground for settling personal scores. If you want to diss Shiv's ideas based on arguments, I have no problem. But don't make this personal. Please!

After reading your post a couple of times I can see what you pointed out are very valid but the way you say it is unnecessary. If you think Shiv's flying too high, counter his points, force him to come down on earth.

Thanks!

Dear Friends,

After being banned from BRF, I was not aware that you folks had started another forum.

I am hoping this one is a little more red-blooded, and un-PC than BRF had become.

I llok forward to participating in good, hard discussions with like minded lovers of India

Thank you Kaushal and Praneet.

Do we have the equivalent of the esoteric "Monkey Trap" theory and other obtuse concepts on India Forum ? <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Welcome Nalwaji, we don't have any monkey traps but just a straight forward defence of India.

Take POK back and encourage Afghans to keep exporting all their opium through Central Asians Republics rather than through the rat infested slum known as Pakistan.

Pls point out where I have made it personal. I just made a generic comment.

And that too was not out of the blue , but only after the particular post.

It is not my problem if YOU ( now that is *personal* ) dont see or apprehend the nauseating example of BRF and PAKDEF..comparision.

I have no personal score to settle with *handle* shiv, whatever comments I made were only as a response to his post.

If it matters to you , then neither I have been called names like BABY KILLER nor have been KINCKED out ... or even told that its a PRIVATE PROPERTY.

If you think that still my comments were unjustified , pls feel free to disable my account, because I had rather post as I see fit rather than go by ridiculous

shariat of sophistication & secularism.

For me IF is just another forum like BRF ... its the individual who post there count....I dont put them on a pedestal( forums ).

Thanks.

Nath

Reggie , welcome to IF.

Bhootnath, the point about not making comments w.r.t what happened in another forum (unless it is directly referred to here by an admin of the other forum) is that we cannot influence what happens in another forum. As it is there is an undercurrent of ill feeling towards the other forum mainly because many of us have either been expelled or have been threatened with expulsion or have been treated with discourtesy at one time or another. We do not think it is useful to exacerbate this ill feeling.

I happen to believe that the example and comparison you gave between Dr. Tim Hoyt and Dr.K, and the relative treatment they received is a valid one, but we cannot settle this in this forum. The Gora chamda syndrome is part of the Indian psyche and even now occasionally shows up as a freudian slip among otherwise educated people. Well enough said.

We look forward to many informative posts from you and value your membership. Let us not dwell on the other forum but do what is best for this forum.
