Quote:Former Olympian Ramandeep Singh who has been asked by Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) to keep it posted about the progress made by Jugraj and also to send details of medical reports for the purpose of consulting experts in India and abroad.

Quote:He requested the visitors to follow the well-known cricket commentator and presenter Harsha Bhogle who wished speedy recovery of Jugraj by sending him card and a bouquet at hospital. Interestingly, Harsha decided against visiting Jugraj at hospital so that he did not cause a disturbance.

there was another newsreport about this that i read and it said that the IHF drew flak for choosing Lucknow as the camp before Champions Trophy.

It also said that India lacks a flood-lit astro turf. If it is true, i am saddened and ashamed that this is the case with our NATIONAL sport.

Hey Vasu good to be back in business <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> .

The only reason I can think of for holding camp in the Lucknow is the SAHARA factor.August is the worst of all months in that part of the country and the astro turf at Dhayan chand stadium was in tatters when I saw it last but that was 6-7 years ago probably they have fixed it since.

I read the news about lack of flood lit facilities in India and was a bit surprised by that.I remember watching a tournament on TV around 5 years ago where the games were played under artificial lights I guess it was in Bangalore but cant recall the exact details right now .

yeah, i would say its only the Sahara factor for the choice of Lucknow as the camp.

In fact, i have been to the Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, which has the Dhyan Chand Stadium in it, and when i was there, 2 years ago, they were in the process of putting brand new turf in the stadium.

Its a pretty beautiful stadium, and i think the UP Government should consider putting lights in it.

Watercooler talk around office: A fellow Indian tells me that Kabbadi will be offically recognized sport in next years Athens Olympics. :cool

Is it true? I remember Johnny Lever joke that we are world champs in this since no one else plays this. Would really like to know of the countries who'll be competing.

An American friend mentioned that they have something similar called 'pool tag' - seems like kabbadi played in water. Mentioned that it would be really hard to cheat in pool tag in terms of holding breath; guy crossing LOC has to do it underwater <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

hopefully that will get people to watch more local sports.

I think indian sports needs a dose of commercialism to get ahead.

seriously, if there is a football game between Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka, you bet i will not go, and so wont MOST of the soccer fans.

Now if there was a good stadium in Dehradun, and there was a home game between the Dehradun Dynamos and Bangalore Bombers in the Play-offs of , hell yeah that would be a game to watch!

Quote:India frittered away chances galore yet managed to beat Bangladesh 10-0 in their second match of the Asia Cup hockey tournament at the Bukit Jalil stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

The margin of victory was the biggest thus far in the tournament and ensured India a berth in the semi-finals. Tomorrow's match against Pakistan will decided which of the two Asian giants takes the top spot in Pool B. After today's victory India and Pakistan are level on points and goal difference. Both have six points from two matches and a goal difference of plus-14.

Dilip Tirkey scored three of those goals from the eight penalty-corner India forced, while Vikram Pillay, Dhanraj Pillay, Sandeep Michael, Prabhjot Singh, Gagan Ajit Singh and Baljit Singh Dhillon accounted for the rest.

Quote: The Indian cagers are just a match away from making history in the 22nd Men’s Asian Basketball Championships, currently on at Harbin, China. A win in their last group B match against Korea tomorrow would not only provide a shot in the arm for the Indian hoopsters but also enhance their reputation in the continental event. India’s best finishing so far — eighth — came in the last meet in Shanghai two years ago.
