A.P C.M YS Rajasekhara Reddy Missing
As someone said YSR's passing is more deadly than the swine flu.

QUOTEOver 100 die after YSR's death, son appeals for calm

IANS | Hyderabad

As many as 122 people across Andhra Pradesh reportedly died of shock or committed suicide after the death of their Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, prompting his MP son YS Jaganmohan Reddy to appeal to the people to be stoic and brave.

"I appeal to all of you to be stoic and brave in this hour of tragedy. He (YSR) wanted to see a smile on the faces of all and if you resort to such things (suicide) this will hurt him," said Jaganmohan, trying hard to control his tears.

"He used to smile even in difficult times and I am sure he is still smiling. I request you to follow his principle and not to commit suicide as this will not give him peace," said Jaganmohan, who was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kadapa in the April-May elections and is being seen by many as the next Chief Minister.

The appeal before the camera was telecast on all Telugu television channels.

Television channels estimated that 122 people died of shock on hearing the news of their leader's death in a horrific air crash Thursday, or committed suicide unable to bear the loss. Most of those who died of shock were keenly following TV news channels ever since his chopper went missing early on Wednesday and then received the news of his death on Thursday.

{Could it be the TV coverage that caused this angst and triggered the response?}

NTV, a Telugu channel, reported that 122 people have died since Thursday morning when YSR's body was found. It said 99 people died of shock while 23 committed suicide.

However, there was no independent confirmation of this. The police here said they did not have any figures to confirm this report. :|

This is the first time in the State's history that such a large number of people have died over the death of any political leader.

YSR, as the late leader was popularly known, has surpassed in death the popularity of actor and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder NT Rama Rao who died in 1996.

A large number of those who died of shock included young supporters of YSR and the beneficiaries of the various welfare schemes launched by him in the last five years.

The deaths were reported from 19 out of 23 districts in the State.

In the coastal district of West Godavari, six people died of shock and four committed suicide.

"YSR dedicated his life to people, I am dedicating my life to him," a youth wrote in his suicide note before consuming pesticide.

A physically handicapped couple, who were getting monthly pension under a welfare scheme, attempted suicide by jumping into the Godavari river but were saved by fishermen.

In Hyderabad, 42-year-old Yadgiri died of shock while watching news of YSR's death on television. M Srinivas, 30, another admirer of the Chief Minister suffered a cardiac arrest.

The charred bodies of YSR and four others were found on Thursday morning in the Nallamala forest in Kurnool district, almost 24 hours after their helicopter went missing.

People die everyday.

Where is the evidence that all these people died due to shock from YSR's death, you just have to take the media's word for it which is dubious to say the least.

Maybe they just got a heart attack because like many Indians they were munching on pakoras all their life while growing a big pot belly watching saas bahu, crappy telugu movies & cricket, just sayin ....

Just more drama to make it out like the whole of Andhra is mourning like a family member died in order to elevate YSR's status.

If some of them did die from shock then good riddance, less wankers in this world.

‘Messiah’ laid to rest in native Pulivendula

{I thought only Jesus Christ was called that! No protests from minorities?}

September 5th, 2009
By Our Correspondent
Idupulapaya/Hyderabad, Sept. 4:

The state bid an emotional farewell to Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, who was laid to rest in Idupulapaya estate in his native village of Pulivendula on Friday evening amid chants of “YSR Amar Rahe”.

The funeral was advanced to 4.35 pm, after warnings that the helicopters carrying the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, and other ministers could face bad weather.

The sprawling 200-acre lush green Idupulapaya valley echoed with slogans after Dr Reddy’s body was brought in an IAF helicopter from Hyderabad. Lakhs thronged the area to have a last glimpse of their departed leader.

The late chief minister’s son, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, threw the first fistful of earth on the coffin after it was lowered into the final resting place.

Mr Rosaiah, the Union health minister, Mr Gulam Nabi Azad, were among those present at the funeral.

Earlier, huge crowds bid a tearful adieu to Dr Reddy in the state capital. The funeral procession moved to Gandhi Bhavan at 9.40 am and later to the Lal Bahadur stadium at noon.

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, the Congress chief Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Mr Rahul Gandhi, also paid their last respects to Dr Reddy and called on the late leader’s family.

Meanwhile, the high-level inquiry committee appointed by the Centre has seized the cockpit voice recorder and emergency location transmitter of the helicopter that crashed on Wednesday.

RMan, Did he have anything to do with the deal? The reason why I ask is one of the two sites for power stations announced during Hillary's visit is in his district.

So maybe what you speculate is plausible too. For his being missing would shake the system to look for the heir apparent. Per regional papers, he was planning to retire at sixty from state politics. He also was supposed to name a promising babu as his new Principal Secy.

Sooreedu , he is shadow guy of YSR family, somewhere it is reported he was YSR's father shadow, This guys stars (astrologically) protects YSR family. When YSR father was butchered he was not around, he also missed last Helicopter ride. Now he will shadow YSR J.

Check post #64 in this thread about himQUOTEThe soothsayer said it seems, “There is a karmic bond between Sooreedu and your family, which even Sorredu doesn’t know. Yes, Raja Reddy moved out without Sooreedu on a day that happened to be his last day as he was assassinated.

High command may take at least a week to name new leader
Power tussle hots up in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Sept 5, DH News Service:

The campaign to name Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, MP from Kadapa, as successor to his late father picked up momentum on Friday with the state Council of Ministers headed by the 'caretaker' Chief Minister K Rosiah writing to party president Mrs Sonia Gandhi to this effect.

However, the high command has indicated that it will take at least one week to finalise the successor when the Congress Legislature Party is scheduled to meet. Pro-Jagan sources here believe that only his son would be able to fill the over-sized shoes of YSR considering the huge task in front of the potential candidate. The campaign is gathering steam with nearly half the 34-member cabinet, 20 out of 33 MPs and 122 out of 155 Congress legislators declaring that they want Jaganmohan as the new chief minister. This, they believe would be the best tribute to YSR.

At least one Congress leader, Minister Ramachandra Reddy threatened to split the party if the demand was not accepted. “If he (Jagan) is not made CLP leader we will not hesitate to quit the party and take away a majority of party MLAs,” he said. A major contender and state Congress president D Srinivas has said he had no objection to Jagan as CM.

Repaying debt

Almost all those rooting for Jagan are hardcore loyalists of YSR and some of them were given tickets and cabinet berths as they were handpicked by Jagan. They believe their career would be furthered only with Jagan at the helm of affairs. They also believe that Jagan would be the ideal person to carry forward YSR’s policies, especially for the poor and the backward people. They also believe Jagan is as strong and efficient a leader as YSR. At least one first-time minister and a known acolyte of YSR said the best way he could repay his debt to YSR was by making Jagan the CM.

However, Congress high command’s emissary to YSR’s funeral Prithviraj Chauhan said this demand would be taken into consideration even as the opinion of seniors in the party would be weighed in. “This is not the right time for such things (to be raised),” he told a news channel here on Friday. “Today is a day of mourning. Don’t bring politics,” he said.

He pointed out that there was a clear-cut procedure to be followed in these matters and it would be followed. “After consulting with the seniors in the state party , the high command will take a decision,” he said.

Spate of deaths follow YSR’s

About 60 people are reported to have died, either from shock or by committing suicide, unable to bear the loss of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, reports DHNS from Hyderabad. This prompted YRS’ son Jaganmohan Reddy brother Y S Vivekananda Reddy to appeal to the people not to take their lives.

YSR’s mortal remains, accompanied by his son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, were brought to Idupulapaya in an IAF helicopter. The late chief minister’s family members, including his widow Vijayalakshmi, went into the chopper to pay their last respects. After performing the last rituals, the coffin was lowered onto the ground at 5.20 pm, bringing to a close one of the most eventful chapters in the state’s recent history.

After his death was confirmed on Thursday, large pictures of YSR were placed at every crossroad and garlanded by people. Union ministers including P Chidambaram, S M Krishna, A K Antony, Veerappa Moily, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Prithviraj Chauhan, Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, and Ashok Gehlot met with Reddy’s family members and conveyed their condolences. Opposition leaders L K Advani and Venkaiah Naidu, former PM H D Deve Gowda and former Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamy paid respects.

Meanwhile, the last rites of two close aides of YSR, Principal Secretary P Subrahmanyam, 56, and chief security officer A S C John Wesley, who accompanied him onboard the ill-fated helicopter, were performed at Nellore and Ongole, respectively, in Prakasam district.

Cong core committee meets
Anirban Bhaumik, Sept 3, NEW DELHI:

The Congress top brass in New Delhi kept its fingers crossed on Wednesday, with an anxious party president Sonia Gandhi being continuously updated about the efforts to trace the missing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S R Reddy.

The Congress president and UPA chairperson asked Union law Minister M Veerappa Moily, who is in charge of the party’s affairs in Andhra Pradesh, and Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office Prithviraj Chavan to rush to Hyderabad to oversee the search operations.

She also had a meeting with the party’s top leaders like Home Minister P Chidambaram, Defence Minister A K Antony, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and her political secretary Ahmed Patel at her residence late at night to assess the situation in the wake of the disappearance of Reddy. She called up Reddy’s wife Vijaya Laxmi and assured her of all support in this hour of crisis.

Chidambaram earlier met Sonia Gandhi in the evening and briefed her on the progress in the operations to find out the chopper that went missing with Reddy and four others.
“The Congress president, like everyone else in the party, is very worried and praying for the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister,” said All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesman Manish Tiwari. The grim-faced MP declined to take questions on the disappearance of the helicopter in the routine news-conference in the party headquarters that wore a sombre look.

AICC sources said that Reddy had called some of the top Congress leaders in Delhi on Tuesday and discussed about his plan to travel to Chittoor, which is believed to be a stronghold of the Congress’ main political rival in the State, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Chittoor is the home-district of Chandrababu Naidu and Reddy had chalked out a strategy to decimate the TDP and strengthen the Congress there. He secured two major projects for Chittoor recently—a turbines and boilers manufacturing unit at Mannavaram and an international airport at Tirupati.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to inaugurate the airport at Tirupati and lay the foundation stone of an NTPC-BHEL power-plant at Mannavaram on September 16 and 17 next. “He appeared to be keen to take on Naidu in Chittoor both by launching development projects in the backward district and by political moves,” said a senior AICC functionary. Reddy, sources said, had discussed the plan with Moily and Patel, when he was in New Delhi last month to attend the chief ministers’ conference and a meeting of the Congress Working Committee.

YSR was a strong supporter of India-U.S. friendship

New Delhi: U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer condoled the death of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash, describing him as "a strong supporter of India-U.S. friendship".

"The chief minister was a strong supporter of U.S.-India friendship and our bilateral partnership, visible in the strong economic and family ties between the people of Andhra Pradesh and the U.S.," Roemer said here in a statement.

On behalf of the U.S. government, Roemer offered his condolences to Reddy's family as well as to the families of two senior officers who died along with the chief minister in the crash. Two pilots also died in the crash.

The 60-year-old chief minister, popularly known as YSR, was going from Hyderabad to Chittoor, 588 km away, for a mass contact programme when his helicopter went missing in bad weather around 9.30 a.m. Wednesday in a dense forest range. His body was found Thursday.

Every kangressi is a supporter of the deal. The Deal was not even hatched in India but in the rarified quarters of Amerikan intelligentsia. Everyone from Kissinger to Jindal was trotted out in support of the deal.

The other power station was in Gujarat.

Americans are showing undue interests in AP: Chiranjeevi meet with American official after elections, Embassy in Hyd, Evangelical organizations. I think even Binayak Sen was spirited away to an AP church, can't remember exactly.

There is every indication to a multiproged startegy to "domesticate" India at state and civilization levels.

Not too long ago, no one would even believe that YSR was a christian. It was always "innocent coincidence", "conspiracy theory".

Search begins for YSR's successor, Son Jagan, NTR daughter Purandeswari, Jaipal in race
QUOTETalk has begun of YSR’s son, Jaganmohan Reddy donning the mantle of his father as the new helmsman of the Congress in Andhra Pradesh.

Others in the race are S Jaipal Reddy, a seasoned war horse in his early sixties and Daggupati Puranderswari, daughter of TDP founder, NTR, who made it big in the Congress. Dharamvarapu Srinivas, PCC President and state finance minister Konijeti Rosaiah are also being talked about among the A-list of likely successors. The Congress legislature Party is likely to meet on Monday after the period of state mourning end.

Srinivas has been in the race for the CM’s post even when YSR was around. A leader of backward classes, his handicap is however the fact he had lost the assembly election. He also had come under a cloud because of the activities of his son. Rosaiah is filling the void created by YSR’s death as interim chief minister. A seasoned politician who hails from the powerful merchant community, Rosaiah is an old timer, in his late seventies. Age is being held against him, Also his short temper.

Jaipal Reddy, who like YSR graduated in the Congress through Youth Congress, is a natural choice for the post of chief minister. He is erudite, Nehruvian, and non-controversial. He hails from Telangana where there is a demand for separate state. Well known nationally, he made Delhi his political theatre since the eighties after a stint in the state assembly. Emergency saw him join the opposition led by Jaya Prakash Narain. He returned to the Congress in 2004. To his credit, Jaipal never projected himself.

Right at the moment, Jagan, as Jagmohan Reddy is known, appears as front runner, going by the mounting pressure on the Congress high command from the cadres in the state. His plus is that he is very young, in early thirties. He is an industrialist, first term Parliamentarian, and a news paper magnet, who owns Sakshi TV and Telugu daily by the same title. Controversies have been dogging him in the recent past.

Many Congress leaders in the state hold the view that Jagan would be a natural heir to YSR legacy. A large section of party MLAs are personally known to him. In fact, some sources said that Jagan was instrumental in getting party ticket to some of these law makers.

It is to be seen how the Congress high command will react to the campaign. In case, Jagan is anointed as the next chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, it would herald the beginning of new dynasty politics in the state, and another regional dynasty in the Congress party.
