- resounding rout of commies... total tally of Left looking between 25-30 for the first time in about 3 decades. Bengal celebrates.
- Paswan has been wiped out. no seat for LJP. Lalu reduced to just 4.
- Jehadi Ansari of BSP - defeated from Gazipur.
- TR Balu defeated, so also chidambaram.

The dreamers and wishful thinkers in this forum may continue chasing the fantasy. Calling names through the keyboard did not influence the voters who were enlightened enough to exercise their right in what they thought to be best for this nation. One should gracefully accept the verdict of the people as has been done by the BJP. The reduction of influence of the regional parties and the marginalisation of the Communists will certainly accelerate the speed of economic growth and reforms.
Now where does the BJP go from here? From what I hear on TV discussions - to further secularization. Good for them: vinAshakAle...etc.

New UPA govt would come back on support from the following big brothers:
- Mamata in WB
- Dravidists in TN
- half-paralyzed taskara in MH
- Mulayam/Amar Singh - UP
- Abdullahs in J&K
plus some yet unknown regional party
Each of the above being larger partners of Congress in the respective state.

People had no understanding what is going on in country or in city, they are so busy with themselves or work, It is a sad state.
Average Indians are very religious at home.
Lack of bigger picture is main problem.
Muslims had leaders sitting in Mosque and Universities who help them to make strategic decisions.
Hindus are divided house and think as individual and lacks strategic thinking.
Hindus who are in universities or media are dominated by Chatterjees, Roys, Baneerjees etc.
Defeat of communism is important.
Folks, the Congress victory should not have been a shock or a surprise to anyone. They control the media, the have powerful business interests both within India and without and that translates into a vice like grip on the Indian people and the reins of power.
They successfully sidestepped the issue of poor security and protrayed themselves as a youthful vigorous party (Rahul, Sachin, et al) headed by seasoned statesmen (Manmohan). The BJP charge that Manmohan was weak was laughable especially since the media was able to convince the people that the BJP/NDA was responsible for the humiliating Kandahar episode.
The BJP still hasnt figured out how important media is and they are still in many respects naive. In many ways this could be likened to the back to back Bush victories and hopefully the BJP/NDA will learn from the ass whooping they got this time to better position themselves in 2014. One thing is for sure, they need better penetration in the southern states.
The question is what will be the effects of decade+ long sepoy dynasty, which has given entry to extremely inimical foreigner interests. India is in process of decolonization, it is not consolidated and outward projecting power like US, which can afford idle experimentation with bush, obama, etc.

Still BJP retains the 'Leader of opposition'. In order to strengthen our democracy BJP has to come up with model of opposition in form of shadow Govt and keep the incumbent Govt on toes and exposing it's weakness as it goes.
e.g. MMS promised to mend Economic recession in 1st 100 days; he should be made to do so right from today rather than sitting on laurels of winning an election.

Well for starters, I see the Sethusamudram project moving ahead full steam. We can expect the peace dialogue (which was halted in the wake of the Mumbai attack) to restart again. Trust the UPA and the PM to make some excuse as to why this should happen.
I read somewhere how we were very close to a deal in Kashmir. I think we can see added pressure from outsiders to provide concessions on the J&K issue. Whether or these concessions occur, depend on what checks and balances we have in the army and civil services.
