Rampur BJP MLA joins SP
http://www.asianage.com/presentation/leftn...a-joins-sp.aspx

AGE CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI

June 5: The Samajwadi Party on Friday ensnared a former BJP MLA, Mr Shiv Bahadur Saxena, who had represented the Rampur Assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh four times, into the party fold. Mr Saxena is being credited by the SP leaders of having ensured the victory of the party MP Jaya Prada from the Rampur Lok Sabha constituency despite the dissidence of the expelled party leader Azam Khan.

"My reason for leaving the BJP was because the party has left behind its ideology and has made false promises to people. Its leaders don’t practice what they preach," said Mr Saxena, who was flanked by the SP general secretary Amar Singh and Ms Prada in the SP office in the capital.

Mr Saxena said, he had taken the decision before the elections itself. "A decision has to be taken at the appropriate time," he said.

Denying that it was political opportunism on his part, Mr Saxena said: "I took this decision prior to elections, to ensure a person’s victory who I felt deserved to win from Rampur, and therefore, I decided to back Jaya Prada. I felt that somebody who has done so much for Rampur, did not deserve to lose."

That was a heart warming story. Kabir das was a great ram bhakt as well. So was Raas khan. The princess happened to be the daughter of a muslim sultan. We also have the example of Vavar Swami a muslim devotee of lord ayappa. The golden plating of the palani murugan temple was infact laid by a muslim family.

The Hindu has an inclusive faith and a frame of mind which is tolerant of and is capable of accepting diverse forms of worship. He claims he has 33 crore gods, so he finds it not at all difficult to accept two more, Allah and Jehovah. The Hindu pilgrim to Sabarimala Aiyappa Temple goes to the shrine of Vavar, the Muslim follower of Lord Aiyappa and makes offerings there with the same piety and devotion with which he makes offerings at the shrine of Lord Aiyappa. However the control over the cash offerings at Vavar shrine does not vest with the secular, socialist politicians or with the Devaswom Board but with the mahallu committee.

With the cash offerings at Vavar shrine the can make swords to attack Hindus as it was done at Maaradu fishing village or at any other place, all that the Hindu has to do is to stick out his neck. With the offerings made by the pilgrims to the Aiyappa Temple the mahallu committee can make swords or bombs or guns or RDX or any thing else, it is their discretion.

On the contrary, the Hindu pilgrim has the right only to make offerings to the Aiyappa Temple and once the cash is given then the Hindu has no claims over it. The atheist, Hindu-baiting secular politicians will take charge of the temple hundi money. The poor Hindu people just stand like slaughter sheep, before the predatory long-gowned “brides of Christ”.

So you see why the Hindu is poor? They have no control over their temple wealth. This is the state of affairs we need to change.

QUOTEAmritha TV - Spreading Christian fiction
22/01/2008 10:46:38 GSK Menon

Today 22/1/08 , Amritha TV aired a program in its Subashitam program about the Stephanos Church at Arthungal. The regular lady commentator was there recounting about one person called Velutha, supposed to be a Christian youth and a close friend of Lord Ayyappa ! It was also propagated that all Ayyappa devotees on their return from Sabarimala should visit Arthungal Church.

Why have the Christians joined the Sabarimala bandwagon ? Simple, money, money, money ! If Muslims can mint lakhs and lakhs in the name of Vavar, then can Christians be far behind ? So they have created a fictional character called Velutha. Spun a story that he was a bosom friend of Lord Ayyappa , so Hindus should splurge money in the name of Velutha !

What is the status of Vavar/Velutha (note both names start with V) ? Vavar was just a pirate-trader ? He was never a Mullah or a Sufi saint. What does it matter if that Muslim was a close friend of a Kafir as long as he did not change his religion ? Even today not a single Mullah enters the Sabarimala temple. The Mullahs sit separately, collect a fortune and vanish. The temptation was too much for the Padres ! Lo and behold, a Velutha is created and spread through Asianet and Amritha TV.

Nobody knows who this Velutha is, who cares ? Slowly the rumour will be spread, then it will get publicity, then his name will appear in news papers "For Favours Received" ! Velutha will become famous and more famous, and then a Church will be built called VELUTHA - SABARI CHURCH !

This is a golden oppurtunity for enterprising moneyless Hindus, before the Christians start a Church, start a VELUTHA MEMORIAL and mint money. Don't call it a temple, Devasom Board and Sudhakaran will come running. Dont call it a Church, Padres will start a communal riot. Simply call it a secular friendship memorial. Install an idol of Velutha, paintings of Ayyappa embracing Velutha, and then you can embrace millions of rupees. Become Trustee of Velutha Memorial. Start before the Christians act. Good luck.

Sinha quits BJP positions, party accepts resignation

IANS First Published : 13 Jun 2009 01:39:50 PM ISTLast Updated : 13 Jun 2009 07:42:05 PM IST

NEW DELHI/RANCHI: Amid a blame game over the Bharatiya Janata Party's electoral debacle, its national vice president and veteran leader Yashwant Sinha Saturday resigned from all party positions. BJP president Rajnath Singh accepted his resignation.

Sinha, in Ranchi, refused to speak to mediapersons on this issue, saying: "I do not want to talk about it." But party sources in the Jharkhand capital said he had faxed his resignation letter to Rajnath Singh.

In New Delhi, BJP spokesperson Sreekant Sharma told IANS: "Rajnath Singh has accepted Yashwant Sinha's resignation."

The former finance and external affairs minister, who was last month elected to the Lok Sabha from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, has reportedly sought reconstitution of the party in the aftermath of its drubbing in elections.

In his five-page resignation letter, according to party sources, Sinha has said the responsibility for the election loss should be fixed.

He has also noted that veteran L.K. Advani should not have become the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha again, according to the sources.

Situation in BJP is volcanic: Sushma

Bhopal (PTI): Senior BJP leader, Sushma Swaraj has described the situation in her party after the Lok Sabha polls as "volcanic" and said that it would not be wise to say anything about it.

Ms. Sushma, who arrived here on Sunday on a four-day visit to her parliamentary constituency Vidisha, told reporters last evening that the situation in the BJP right now was volcanic and even a small spark can flare it.

She said that in her view there was nothing wrong in senior BJP leader, L K Advani continuing as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha as he would have become the Prime Minister if the NDA had won the parliamentary elections.

Answering a question, she said it was wrong to say that she would eventually succeed Mr. Advani as the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.

The senior BJP leader said that her role as BJP election in-charge for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand had come to an end and now she was only the MP from Vidisha.

Ms. Sushma said that she has already made it clear a number of times that she had no intention of interfering in the affairs of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh.

The following item from Indian Express of 15/6/2009 gives a true analysis of the crisis of ideology that faces the BJP’s future:

Quote
BJP can’t be a party of Hindu right, it can be a party of Indian (centre) right’ BRAJESH MISHRA, former NSA on Walk the Talk
t a time when the war within the BJP following its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections is out in the open, RSS ideologue M G Vaidya today took digs at the party and asked it to “quit the Hindutva agenda” so that the “Trinamool Congress, Biju Janata Dal and Telugu Desam will once again happily go with the BJP.” He is of the view that one who heads A
the parliamentary party should also be the party president
Vaidya, who had criticised the BJP, particularly L K Advani, for dissociating from the main party agenda which he claimed led to its poor show in the elections, said if the party now abandoned Hindutva “its umbilical cord with the RSS will
automatically fall”. He maintained this would not impact the RSS because “come what may, the Sangh isn’t going to quit Hindutva”
In his column in Marathi daily Tarun Bharat, Vaidya wrote: “The BJP hasn’t been able to impress on peoples’ mind the comprehensive purport of Hindutva despite its rule at the Centre and in many states perhaps because they
found it narrow-minded or did not find it useful in ascending the throne o power.” “This will have no adverse effect on the RSS. I feel those honouring the Hindutva ideology are in huge num bers. The only thing needed is to touch hearts. The response will be such that it will act as a source o strength and energy. But it should be done with honesty.” Referring to the BJP vacillation on Hindutva, Vaidya pointed out that the
“dilemma” has existed ever since Jana Sangh days. “In the 1980 elec tions, it was suggested that Bharatiya Jana Sangh be called Bharatiya Janata Party The flag was also changed. The saffron part became two-third and the green part be came one-third Bharatiyatva and inte grated humanism
lagged behind and socialism came to the fore. Various formats of socialism democratic and Gandhian, surfaced The BJP chose the Gandhian version Did that absolve it of the communalism charge? Did Muslims make a beeline to join it,” he wrote
“After the 1984 poll stunner, the BJP again remembered Hindutva. The
BJP kept growing and power started getting closer to the party. But it wasn’t close enough to propel it to power
The party could have gained strength to win the elections on its own, but the party had no patience — the temptation of power was too strong. The BJP fell for it and left its core ideology again. In 2004, when it lost power, it was once again reminded of Hindutva. It was included in the 2009 manifesto
This, however, failed to impress people,” he said
“Now some intellectuals feel the BJP has lost because it went back to Hindutva
Jaithirth Rao, Dhiraj Nayyar and Meghnad Desai have all advised in The Indian Express over the past few days that BJP should disengage itself from Hindutva. All these are neutral writers. But Swapan Dasgupta and Sudheendra Kulkarni are not known to be like them. They have also written that the BJP should look beyond Hindutva. My advice is that the BJP should really quit the Hindutva agenda. Its umbilical cord with the RSS will automatically fall.” But he also had a poser: “If acceptance of the Sachar report were to attract Muslims, then why did Muslims reject Mulayam Singh and Lalu Yadav?” Responding to Vaidya’s remarks on the party’s “inconsistency” on Hindutva, BJP president Rajnath Singh said he would remain wedded to the core ideology for all times to come. “I want to put this bluntly that I still abide by the ideology of Hindutva which I have followed ever since I commenced my political career
And I will remain wedded to it for all times to come,” Singh told reporters in Ghaziabad
Unquote
This may not be digestible to many of the forum members as they are unable to comprehend the true reason of the election debacle . In fact, in the past there has been a strong tendency to keep on casting aspersion on various section of the media to challenge the authenticity of many of the reports and articles in the national media which tried to bring out the truth .Truth is always bitter and so the best way to save oneself is to bring up some excuse to defend one’s own political ideology.
The most recent example is the move to defend the number of tinted MPs that got elected on BJP ticket. How corrupt Mrs. Sonia Gandhi or Mr. Rahul Gandhi is does not justify in any way that the BJP should give party ticket to large number of allegedly corrupt elements. This very process of justification has so far prevented the BJP to take corrective measures.

the saga of sudheendra kulkarni
jun 18th, 2009

sudheendra kulkarni has been responsible for two BJP defeats -- 2004 and 2009 (of course, for the moment not paying attention to the EVM fraud). he has been the mole responsible for the 'jinnah was good' remark by advani, as well as the positining of advani's persona as the only reason to vote for the BJP in 2009.

kulkarni has set back the cause of hindus by 10 years, almost single-handedly.

the fellow deserves to be tarred and feathered. failure has to be rewarded with his being booted out and disgraced. of course, he will immediately join the kkkangress, which is no loss, as he has been pseudo-secular all along anyway.

Red flags to saffron scarves - what next for Sudheendra Kulkarni
June 12th, 2009 - 6:28 pm ICT by IANS

New Delhi, June 12 (IANS)He was once a diehard Communist preaching against Hindu communalism and then key advisor to the BJP top brass strategising on policy and plans. Now, as he finds himself at the centre of a raging storm in the party and questions its Hindutva ideology, Sudheendra Kulkarni's friends wonder if he is reinventing himself one more time.
The 58-year-old IIT graduate-journalist-political backroom boy, who was close to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and played a vital role in L.K. Advani's prime ministerial campaign in the 2009 general election, has created a flutter in the usually regimented BJP with his criticism of the party's leadership and its ideological fountainhead, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

No wonder, he has come under attack from within the BJP, with sections of the party questioning how a former crusader of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), the BJP's sworn foe, has come to wield so much clout.

The otherwise communicative Kulkarni politely declined to speak to IANS about the latest controversy surrounding him, flowing from his advice that the BJP cannot be wedded to a hardline Hindutva ideology.

Writing in the Tehelka magazine, he urged the party to introspect on its humiliating defeat and said: "The RSS needs it no less. Its leaders must ask themselves, and answer the question honestly and earnestly. Why is the acceptability of the RSS and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad limited in Hindu society itself?"

He said the party "did nothing" while its allies started moving away because of the 2002 communal violence in Gujarat that left over 1,100 people, mostly Muslims, dead.

He also said the RSS did not back Advani in a way that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi backed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

His opinions were denounced by the party leadership, including Advani who distanced himself from it.

From Left to Right, from Marx to Hindutva, Kulkarni has indeed come a long way.

Kulkarni's former friends remember him as a former committed Communist who saw salvation in Karl Marx.

CPI-M members say Kulkarni began as an activist of the Students Federation of India (SFI), the CPI-M student wing, before joining the party.

While in the CPI-M, Kulkarni even visited Moscow, when it was capital of the former Soviet Union.

"We were all shocked at his conversion from Marx to (Lord) Ram, but no longer so," says a former friend with whom Kulkarni used to paste stickers in Mumbai's suburban trains promoting secular values.
(Hey, IIRC Swapan Dasgupta also 'converted' from communistaism to Hindu-something. In any case, swarmy uglyface - "Swamy agnivesh" - is also a marxist/self-professed admirer of marx, who pretends to be a Hindu. What great coincidences.)

"Probably he is reinventing himself all over again," the friend added.

A 1980 graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, Kulkarni helped build several anti-communalism campaigns.

A founder-member of Journalists Against Communalism, Kulkarni and his former friends, journalist Javed Anand and peace activist Teesta Setalvad, used to put up anti-RSS and pro-secularism posters in Mumbai. Kulkarni then worked for The Sunday Observer in Mumbai.

"I remember one Sunday when we carried 10,000 posters and pasted them in every compartment of the trains," recalled Javed Anand. "Sudheen was very much a part of it."

This was before Teesta Setalvad formed the group Sabrang, which later played a key role in rehabilitating victims of the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat.

By then, Kulkarni had travelled in the opposite direction, attracted by the increasing appeal in the early 1990s of the Hindutva ideology.

Once he joined the BJP, Kulkarni impressed everyone with his hard work and commitment. And he soon found himself close to the party's ideological star, Advani.

In 1998, he became a director in the Prime Minister's Office when Vajpayee was prime minister. He was named BJP national secretary in 2004, and later became secretary to Advani.

This is not the first time Kulkarni has courted controversy.

In 2005, he accompanied Advani on the latter's first visit to Pakistan where he called Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the country's founder, a secularist -comments that angered the party and the RSS no end.

Kulkarni was blamed for this and he even offered to resign.
Even then, sources close to him say, he maintained that "there should be a delink of the BJP from RSS".

Journalist Mayank Chhaya, who was Kulkarni's contemporary in Mumbai when the latter worked for Blitz, told IANS: "His attraction to BJP could be because both (BJP and Left) have a regimental ideology and structure. But he was never a hardline Hindutva person. He is a thinking rightwinger."

"You could also call him a 'closet liberal,' a city-bred BJP man," Chhaya said. "But I don't think he was driven by the BJP's hardline ideology and would not mind re-inventing himself. He could well join the Congress."

That generations of Indians have been confused with the wind first moving to Left/Marx and then moving to nationalism and Hindutva. They are unable to reconcile to the national version of India and Bharat.

We see that the same setup of groups of people with similar age and background have infilterated the BJP, Congress party and the Leftist/CPM parties in India. They seem to be working on a larger agenda above all the parties. They control the media and education inside India. This same demographics also has dialogue with the west, western academic groups and also Indology.

If you notice that once Kulkarni was made the GS of BJP in 2004 and given responsibility we see the decline of BJP

This should clear up some of the group characteristics of this generation
QUOTEWe have to understand the history of the political groups in India for the last 40-50 years and influence of the neo-liberal, neo-marxist, post-modernist movement on Indian elite.
After 1960s Indian elite was exposed to the western world and the internationalists movement of the 60s in large number as never before in Indian history. Indian elite before that were mostly the few rich upper class western educated in Oxford/Cambridge before Independence and were leftist like Jyothi Basu. This social transformation of the Indian intellectuals in the 60s/70s was significant since the internationalist movement/Green movement/leftist movement dominated the Indian political scene so much that there was no space for any other national ideology. WKK, peace movement, anti-nuclear movement and rights movement including human rights was appropriated by these groups.
Frankfurt school one such center was influential on the Indian elite.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankfurt_School
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_theory
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_theory
The distorted leftist/marxist ideology inside India is due to these influences in the Indian elite an you can still see many national leaders showing the symptoms of these indoctrinations. Indian education and media shows these distorted Indian variations of all these "cultural theories" and "left ideologies". Indian education was the first victim of this influence with RT gaining prominance in the west with neo-marxist views of Indian history. This created a movement to change the Indian text books, media, cinema and all public intellectual space with pseudo secular, neo-liberal view points distorting Hindu values and Hindu thought process. Western trained sociologists deepened this penetration and actively started pushing social change inside Indian soceity with Mandal and other movement creating social tension.
Hindu tolerance, Hindu world view has been appropriated by the neo-liberal ideologies and groups and the leftist/socialists started showing pseudo secular behavior to represent historic Indian liberal social behavior.

In the 1970s the leftist consolidated their hold in WB and Kerala and joined the INC to create
leftist oriented media and education.Indira Gandhi and her period including emergency even made many nationalists and communists work together.
In the 1980s the political formation was centered around PM Indira Gandhi and parties opposing her. With Pakistan supporting the Khalistan and other left groups within India the Indian leftist was supporting many anti-state groups within India and joining the internationalists who had become dominant in the world.

Pakistan and jihadi Islamist indoctrination in the 80s created another dynamics which created problems for the leftist/socialist ideology. They became sympathizers for the Islamic jihadi movement internally in Kashmir and also external global Islamic/Jihad movement which was secretly supported by internationalists. Indian internationalists/leftist by the early 1990s ended up supporting(some without choice) Kashmir jihadis, Pak jihad movement and totally dominated the political representation of India in the west and elsewhere.

This dynamics of Indian left continued until 1992 when the nationalists and Hindutva groups marched ahead into the center stage with the Ayodhya movement. The left/marxists which until 1992 was mostly anti-Congress, anti-Indira Gandhi and anti-State found itself in the national politics with significant political power in the UF govt as a coalition group. The left even smelled power with the thought of Jyothi Basu as the Prime Minister in 1996. Home minister was a communist for the first time in Indian history. INC without a significant leader was receding and had no clear ideology.

Indian population was under the assault of Islamic jihad movement at the border. Regular unsuspecting Indians were under the assault of psuedo-secular movement by the neo-liberals who took complete control over the Indian media by the early 1990s. Indian economy was reeling under the socialist policy/license Raj setup by the INC since early 1960s by the neo-leftist. With the assassination of RG the leadership of the Indian polity was under shock and in this circumstance PM PVNR steered India towards stability till 1995.

In this mess by the late 1990s the EJs from the west poured more money and expanded their conversion activity inside India creating its own social tension. They increased more tension with the Hindutva group by provoking and creating conditions for violence. It increased more money for conversion and provoked demonization of Hindu groups and Indian culture in general.
We see the transformation of INC which was born as a nationalistic party for gaining the freedom from the British colonial occupation has transformed into a left/socialist party by the 1990s and formed govt with the left to keep away the nationalist from gaining power. In the 1990s the INC also took the leadership of liberalization and privatization of Indian economy while at the same time showing left/socialist image.

After the 1998 win of the NDA and the nationalists the left and INC joined together and defined themselves in term of non-nationalists and secular and even secular fundamentalists. INC has slowly absorbed all the left ideology and by 2009 was seen as the left/socialistic center of Indian politics and different from the nationalistic political center.

With all this mess and media confusion and heavy psuedo-secular propaganda the average Indian public is confused and lost trust with the media. Hindu tolerance, Hindu world view has been appropriated by the neo-liberal ideologies and pseudo secular movement distorting Hindu values, Hindu thought process and demonized Hindutva. Educated Indians have been indoctrinated to stop supporting Hindutva and nationalist cause with media campaign and distortions.

STATEMENT OF DR.SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY, PRESIDENT OF JANATA PARTY MADE IN CHENNAI 17.06.2009

The recently announced compact of BJP and Janata Party will emerge, by 2011 General Elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly, as the main challenger to the DMK-Congress opportunistic alliance which alliance, full of ideological and programme contradictions.

The BJP-JP compact however is an alliance with no ideological contradictions. The basis for this coming together of the two parties is to foster a dynamic and inclusive Hindutva (Hinduness), as an Indian’s identity, which concept is inclusive of those Muslims and Christians who proudly accept that their ancestors are Hindus.
This modern Hindutva (in Sanskrit: ‘Virat Brihad Hindutva’) will be focused on uniting Hindus of Tamil Nadu by debunking the birth-based caste divisions and by rejecting the bogus British Imperialist concocted Aryan-Dravidian theory. A correct reading of Hindu scriptures and the results of recent scientific research on DNA of Indians, in fact support this modern Hindutva concept, which should be acceptable to all patriotic Indians.

My campaign for this ideological alternative will begin with the end of the “honeymoon” period of the new UPA government that would commence after the 2009-10 Budget is presented on July 7th, and the Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech on August 15th. I shall thereafter travel to all 30 District headquarters to address headquarters to address public meetings to prepare the people for the BJP-JP alliance. I shall also meet prominent Hindu sadhus, as also those Imams and Bishops who agree with this concept of modern Hindutva, to seek their blessings to uproot the anti-national DMK-Congress alliance from the state.
The BJP-JP compact has a distinct programme of good governance, rapid development, and national security. Thus based on the ideological foundation of Hindutva and this programme thrust, it will emerge soon as the main challenger to the ruling DMK-Congress combine.

(SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY)

The BJP President Mr Rajnath Singh has declared that there will be no ideological shift in the policy of the Party. However, there may be some change in strategy of the party before facing the next general election. In the start of the national executive meeting of the Party, there have been several critical exchanges between the top leaders of the party despite the gag order of the Party President.
This type of deliberation gives the impression that some of the top leaders do not want to give way to the new leaders. They do not realize that if there is no change in leadership there is no possibility of changing the image of the party , that can give a new appeal to the electorate for BJP.

There is no change in the slide of the BJP if the old hags continue. Advani, Rajnath and the entire gang should quit. There should be grassroot election based on recruitment of those who support a minimum program such as abolition of article 370, Ayodhya and other Hindu temples being returned to the Hindus, Declaring Ramasethu as a national monument, redefining national objectives away from socialism and anti-Hindu secluarism, and energetic prosecution and securing exemplary punishments of all those who cheating the electoral mechanism and stole national wealth and stored away in foreing lands, putting an end to the vicious politics of reservation, completely banning communists, banning conversion of the Hindus, Jailing corrupt judges and officials for a very long time etc.

During Advani's time many MPs were found to be corrupt and expelled from the Lok Sabha, many MPs and MLAs have records of crimes as their finest in their curriculum vitae, and so many turncoats who have made politics as their profession. The organization was ill-equipped and adhoc, decisions were made and miscalculations that the party can win sleep-walking.

We need a dynamic leadership, effective and vibrant organization and a statement of objectives on which people are constantly lauched into struggle. This is the only way to educate the people and move the masses.

The tone of the discussion, which saw Muslim leaders of the party Naqvi and Hussain taking on Maneka Gandhi for her stout defence of her son Varun, was set by leaders from states. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan attributed the party's win in last year's state polls to the bias-free implementation of welfare schemes. "Muslim women who benefited from our policies fought with their spouses to support us," he said, stressing the need for an outreach towards Muslims and other minorities to address their concerns about the party.

New Hogwash and nonsense - "Inclusive Hindutva", whatever that means.. Nothing has changed....

QUOTEBJP frames new party line: inclusive Hindutva

http://ibnlive.in.com/news/bjp-frames-new-...-37-single.html

Published on Sun, Jun 21, 2009

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday adopted a political resolution owning collective responsibility for its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and insisting that its Hindutva ideology was inclusive.

"Hinduism or Hindutva is not to be understood or construed narrowly confined only to religious practices or expressed in extreme forms," the resolution said.

"It is, therefore, inclusive representing the finest imprints of our cultural and civilisational ideas. This profound concept is the real inspiration for a resurgent India with which the BJP is proud to be associated," it said.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani urged the party to follow a tolerant version of Hindutva while maintaining its ties with the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS).

Advani told the concluding day of the BJP’s two-day national executive internal bickering had demoralised the workers of the party--a hint at leaders who have been complaining against electoral strategy and want blame for it fixed.

Advani told the closed-door meeting it is wrong to blame individuals for the party’s defeat--a defence of Aurn Jaitley, who played a key role in forming electoral strategy and is now the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

Advani said the party has to “urgently evolve a system of encouraging younger leaders at all levels”.

"It is sad that a certain 'train compartment mentality' has got developed within the party, which makes those in leadership positions to ignore promising, talented and committed cadres who are standing 'outside' and waiting for the door to open," said Advani, 81.

"It is a matter of concern that our party seems to be plateau-ing in some states, which are our strongholds, and have actually suffered big reversals in some others," he said.

Former BJP president Venkaiah Naidu, who briefed the media about the party’s meeting, said the party needed to articulate its ideology better.

Naidu said the BJP would play a “constructive role” as the main Opposition and would “bounce” book. “Defeat is fact of life--we will bounce back. Some people love the defeat of the BJP; we request them to go through the facts--we are still strong,” he said.

"We respect the verdict of the people. After detailed discussions and receiving inputs from different state units it was concluded with confidence that ours is a mission and we have the patience, calibre and stamina to withstand this setback and prepare for the future," Naidu said.

Naidu warned dissent by party leaders won’t help them. “Speaking ill about the party in public is a contagious disease. We need to be careful. Neither the party nor the individual leader will benefit from this,” he said.

Naqvi vs Maneka

The second day of the meeting saw party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi accusing Aonla MP Maneka Gandhi, of leaking party information to the media.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Maharashtra BJP leader Gopinath Munde rejected Maneka’s argument that the BJP could afford to ignore Muslims because the community didn’t vote for it anyway.

The national executive comprehensively discussed Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi's hate messages and Hindutva.

The RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh) has also called for a meeting of its top leaders on June 25 in New Delhi to assess the BJP’s reaffirmation to Hindutva.

We can ill-afford another five years of this senile leadership. Either they quit and let newer and idealogically dedicated assume leadership or we start a new party. I am fed up with the statement nothing is lost and all is well.

BJP: Himalayan Shame
Sandhya Jain
22 June 2009

Not unexpectedly, the BJP national executive turned out to be much ado about nothing. The embattled president Rajnath Singh alone took responsibility for the electoral defeat; the master strategist Arun Jaitley enjoyed the European summer; and the sulking wannabe PM clung ungraciously, but tenaciously, to power.

The rot in the BJP is not new; it has been piling up for decades under the tyranny of the General whose leadership is now unpalatable to his own lieutenants. The analogy that comes to mind is that of the Aegean stables, where sh1t had piled up so high that no mortal could clean it, and no less than the semi-divine Hercules was needed to perform the task. He did this by engineering a riverine flood through the stables; flushing the dross away and purifying that putrid biosphere. A feat of similar magnitude is now required for the BJP.

Lobh, moha, ahankaar

Recalling L K Advani’s swiftly withdrawn offer to quit and not take up the post of Leader of the Opposition, one is reminded of another story from Indian folklore:

A renowned spiritual teacher felt his end approaching. He called his disciples and told them that because of previous karmas, he would be reborn as a piglet to a sow living in the ashram precincts. He asked his favourite disciple to immediately kill him so that he was released from the bondage of that lowly existence, and could proceed on a more exalted karmic journey. The disciple promised.

When the litter was born, the disciple felt that he could not murder an absolute newborn. So he waited a while and on the eighth day, finally picked up a sharp knife and told the ashram inmates that he would now release their guru. But when he approached the sty, a familiar voice said: no, don’t kill me. I like it now!

That, I think, sums up the story of the RSS requesting Advani not to press his resignation – the cardinal vices of greed, delusion and pride (lobh, moha, ahankaar) that Hindus are exhorted to overcome, have him in deep thrall. He cannot now be persuaded to leave; and until he does, BJP is destined to roll in the mud of the pigsty.

Advani and Jaitley: incredible duo

By all accounts, despite a stormy national executive meeting (20-21 June 2009), dissidence was crushed and the escapist (bhagora) Arun Jaitley allowed to get away without explaining either his performance or his conduct.

We are told the party will go back to the masses, but for what? Advani having been resoundingly rejected by the people, and there being no immediate election on the horizon (unlike in 2004, there is no Raj Jyotishi to predict a mid-term poll), what is he going to the masses for - the BJP succession battle?

Few can forget how Jaitley stymied the BJP campaign by throwing tantrums to humiliate Rajnath Singh, not attending certain meetings, whimsically attending others with his face turned away, and casting aspersions on old party hands who were also key fund-raisers. Can such a man be trusted to lead the party in any capacity, that too, at such a critical time in its history?

How can Jaitley, who used the media to project himself as master strategian throughout the electoral process, pouring water over the contributions of all other stalwarts and workers alike, and elevating only a flunkey market surveyor as equal, dare refuse to give an account of his performance. A man who cannot face his own party colleagues, a man who puts a holiday in Europe above the party, cannot be permitted to lord it over his colleagues in Parliament or anywhere else. It is astonishing that he thinks he deserves anything – other than the boot, that is.

Soft Hindutva – what’s that?

After the eminently forgettable Gandhian Socialism, we now have another gem from the BJP – this time it is called Soft Hindutva.

I now feel BJP did not ditch Sri Rama. It was Sri Rama who realised that not Lotuses but Blooming Idiots were blossoming on the BJP pond, and ran for His life!

BJP leaders know nothing, learn nothing. In our part of the country there is a saying that if you don’t have your own brains (apne ghar ki akal), borrow somebody else’s; sadly, BJP lacks even this modesty.

There is no such thing as Hard Hindutva or Soft Hindutva; there is only Hindutva.

Hindutva is ‘Hindu tattva,’ the essence of Hindu-ness. In other words, it is simply Being Hindu. This means that like the sanatana dharma, being perennial, eternally contemporary, eternally relevant to the epoch in which one lives. There is no need for a pandit to lead one to an esoteric verse in the Vedas, no need for an interpretation; there is only understanding the needs of the Hindu community in any given era or situation, and ensuring that the polity delivers on it.

Hindutva, in short, means Hinduizing the polity to ensure that the government of the day does not do anything to hurt the legitimate needs or sensibilities of the Hindu community. It is not framed in ‘anti’ terms – that is the privilege of Pakistan and other monotheistic states – because the Vedic worldview seeks the well-being of all creation, human, non-human, and even inanimate.

Hindu dharma is innately affirmative and not exclusivist. Hence Hindus are unable to sustain hostility towards other communities after the immediate provocation for a flare-up is over (a point forcefully noted by my late father Girilal Jain), and that is why the phrase ‘Justice for all, appeasement of none’ found profound resonance in the Hindu heart.

‘Vasudev kutumbukum’ (the world is the family of Vasudev) is not confined to the human species, and only callow minds permit the diminution of this great ideal to a single specie. This facilitates missionaries when they appropriate Hindu symbols, rituals and concepts, and try to overwhelm the dharma by giving their own meanings to Hindu terms and traditions.

Kanchi Perivaar

By a lucky coincidence, contemporary Hindutva was summed up perfectly by the Kanchi Sankaracharya Swami Jayendra Saraswati during his discussions with Cardinal Jean-Louis Pierre Tauran, president of Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue, and others, in Mumbai on 12 June 2009. Since BJP obviously paid no attention to this meeting, it would be in order to sum up Perivaar’s views

[See full text at http://www.vijayvaani.com/FrmPublicDisplay...cle.aspx?id=633]

- Most countries like USA, UK, Japan, the Gulf nations, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc., affirm their determination to protect and defend their culture and the religion from which their cultures derive.

- In India alone we pass resolutions which officially and legally promote an irreligious and unspiritual creed called secularism. Secularism is an administrative quality; it cannot be the soul of this nation. The soul of this nation is religious and spiritual. Our government must recognize this truth and affirm commitment to protect the soul of India.

- Hindu dharma is by nature diverse; all different panthas and sampradayas co-exist on this bhumi without seeking to destroy the others. Hindu dharma has nurtured and supported all faiths and religions because that is the way of dharma.

- Religions which have entered this bhumi from other lands must respect this vital characteristic of Hindu dharma and not subvert or disturb the sense of nationhood of this country.

- Hindu dharma and the Hindu people welcome Christians, Muslims, Parsis and Jews to make this land their home. We expect these religions not to destroy our faith, our religion, and wound our religious sensibilities.

- We encourage all religions to live with mutual respect and harmony in a shared sense of nationalism which should bind us all as one nation. Nationalism should come first.

- In 1999, Pope John Paul II said the mission of the Vatican was to plant the Cross in Asia in the third millennium to facilitate the Christianizing of the world, which alone would cause the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

- Exactly one month ago, on 12 May 2009, Pope Benedict XVI went to Jerusalem for a dialogue with the Chief Rabbinate of Israel where he agreed that the Catholic Church would cease all missionary and conversion activities among the Jews. The Church must give a similar commitment to the Hindus.

- The Church must reassure Hindus that it will not conduct itself in a manner that wounds Hindu sensibilities.

- The Buddhist Mahasangha and Joint Committee of Buddhist Organizations have urged the Sri Lankan government to pass a national anti-conversion law. A similar measure is endorsed for India.

- The US Commission on International Religious Freedom is an intrusive mechanism of a foreign government to interfere in the internal affairs of India. It must not be permitted to enter India on this intrusive mission [permission denied six days later, though government spokespersons denied this had anything to do with Sankaracharya’s statement!].

- Large sums of money come into the country for Churches and Christian groups’ charity work, and must be used only for social causes like health, education and not for religious conversion.

It is inconceivable that such Hindutva would not find resonance with the people. The truth is that the BJP leadership is now so alienated from the masses, so aloof from the legitimate concerns of Hindus, that neither the word ‘Hindu’ nor ‘Hindutva’ figured in its election campaign.

Kandhamal and the abandoned tribals

This alienation came tellingly to the fore when all prominent BJP leaders pointedly skipped the troubled Kandhamal district – where Swami Laxmanananda and four other sannyasis were brutally gunned down on 23 August 2008, and the tribal community was in deep anguish – in the elections. This was despite the fact that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ditched the party on the eve of polls and Assembly elections were being held simultaneously.

The Orissa election was not just about settling scores with Patnaik; it was about addressing tribal angst. That is why Kandhamal should have been the centrepoint of the BJP campaign, because tribals are the most endangered section of society and need special protection of their identity and culture.

A common cultural substratum unites all native-born beliefs and practices; hence tribals (Adivasi, Vanvasi) are an intrinsic part of Hindu dharma. However, because of certain lacuna at the time of drafting the constitution, they were denied adequate legal protection of their tribal status.

This has made Adivasis the target of conversion and violence. The current spiral of violence began with the shooting of Tripura’s Shanti Kali ji Maharaj in August 2000; the shooting of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati followed on 23 August 2008; and Swami Ramcharan Das was hacked to death at Puri on 3 June 2009.

BJP should have demanded – and should even now demand – a complete ban on proselytisation in tribal areas. It should also demand plugging the legal lacuna which allows tribals converts to corner reservation benefits.

Caste is Hindu

So alienated has BJP become from Hindu society that it no longer appreciates the unchanging importance of caste. From its primordial beginnings, Hindu society has organised itself on the basis of caste, and caste has served as an agency of integration of diverse groups throughout the land. So significant is caste that Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav sacrified other party colleagues to maintain his relationship with the Lodh leader Kalyan Singh (once BJP’s chief minister of Uttar Pradesh).

Today, both Christian and Muslim leaders are seeking to appropriate caste and secure reservation benefits for so-called dalit Christians and dalit Muslims. Since Hindus alone are defined by jati and gotra, and caste is explicitly forbidden in the religious theology of both Islam and Christianity, BJP should demand a national debate and legislation to define Hindus as those who have jati and gotra, and minorities as those who do not have caste and are not entitled to reservations on the basis of caste.

Interim solution

In my view BJP cannot begin to sort itself out unless Advani is removed from the headship of the organisation. He should be asked to quit his Lok Sabha seat (and take protégé Varun Gandhi with him into the sunset), and the party should ask Narendra Modi to contest Gandhinagar and take over as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.

This will have the immediate benefit of transition to a younger leadership, with a leader known to the people. The BJP can then thrash out the causes of electoral failure and work out remedies.

Within Gujarat, the immediate benefit would be that alienated leaders (Keshubhai Patel, Suresh Mehta, Rajendrasinh Rana, Gordhan Zapadia, Sankarsinh Vaghela) and communities (Kshatriyas, Patels) can close ranks and give the BJP a fighting chance in the next Assembly elections – else, Gujarat may well be lost, if the Lok Sabha results are any indication.

More importantly, shifting Narendra Modi could mitigate the hostility with which the Gujarat riot cases are currently being pursued, and give a fair chance to VHP cadres rotting in jail. The alienation of then home minister Gordhan Zapadia is a major blow to the party, which can be overcome if Modi is removed from the scene.

His national ambitions are in any case well known. By reviving the party from the current doldrums, he could earn his right to nurture them.
