NEW DELHI: Insisting that a solution to Ayodhya issue is not possible through negotiations, VHP on Friday said it would have to undertake a "mass" agitation on the pattern of Amarnath land yatra movement last year to achieve its goal of building Ram Temple.

"I believe that construction of Ram temple at Ram Janambhoomi is not possible by any negotiation. I believe that Hindu Saint fraternity and Hindu organisations will have to launch a mass movement in days to come," VHP president Ashok Singhal told reporters here.

"I believe that the kind of movement undertaken in Jammu for reclaiming Amarnath land, our saints will have to create the same situation in days to come and a Ram temple will be constructed," he added.

Singhal noted that BJP has talked about construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya in its election manifesto. He described BJP as the "only party" which could safeguard "interests of Hindu polity" and expressed his organisation's support to it.

<b>He charged Congress with being bent upon "dividing and weakening" the Hindu society. </b>

PTI | New Delhi
The Supreme Court today extended the parole of BJP leader Varun Gandhi, booked under the National Security Act for his alleged hate speeches, till May 14.

The order was passed by a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan before which the Uttar Pradesh government accused Varun of violating the undertaking furnished by him for securing the interim bail.

<b>Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for state government alleged that Varun did not furnish his whereabouts to Pilibhit district magistrate on two occasions that is on April 16 to 20 and April 23 to 25.</b>

<b>He alleged that during this period, the BJP leader was in Uttar Pradesh, but did not inform the authorities in Pilibhit.</b>

However, Varun's counsel and senior advocate Mukul Rohtagi denied the allegations and said he would respond to them.

Salve said that Varun had made a representation before the Central Government against invocation of the National Security Act which was rejected.

Rohtagi alleged that both the Central and State Governments have one agenda to keep Varun in jail.

Staff Reporter | New Delhi
<b>BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley has claimed that the next Government at the Centre will be led by the saffron party.</b>

Speaking at a Press conference launching the fourth phase of campaigning at the Delhi BJP office, Jaitley said<b>, “The BJP was scoring at 80 per cent strike rate on seats contested by the party.” </b>He said that leaving alone West Bengal and Kerala — where the Left parties are dominant — <b>anti-Congress political forces have done better in most of the States.</b> The figures, Jaitley said, were based on reports in vernacular newspapers and received from party workers.

<b>“In States like Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra where our party or allies are contesting, the strike rate is 80 per cent. We will win most of the seats</b>. In Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, non-Congress parties have a good standing,” Jaitley said.

He claimed that there was no possibility of the formation of a Congress-led Government. <b>Stating that BJP's 'revival' in Uttar Pradesh will be the 'game changer,' Jaitley claimed that the party will 'significantly' improve its performance in the state.</b>

The BJP general secretary took on the Government on issues of water, power, price rise and fee hike. Jaitley said at a time when people are either losing jobs or facing pay cuts, the Government has forced the burden of fee hike.

“The people are facing a huge shortage of water and electricity. Fee hike is a major issue. But the Government is not at all concerned. Congress is a heartless party,” he said, adding that the Congress' campaign highlighting 'Josh' is a cruel joke on the people of Delhi.

Jaitley said usually during recession, prices of goods go down but surprisingly prices of food articles are skyrocketing when the economy is in recession. He also lambasted the Government for the chaotic traffic situation in the city and said neither Delhi Government nor Delhi Police have any plan to streamline the traffic.

link
Rathin Das | Ahmedabad
The peaceful completion of polling for the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat brings no relief to Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who criss-crossed the State several times to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates.

<b>Even after the election is over in his home State, the BJP’s star campaigner is on a busy schedule for the next 12 days during which he is required to address about 40 party rallies all over north India, especially in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi.

Modi has already left for Uttar Pradesh for campaigning in places where elections are due in the fourth and fifth phases, scheduled on May 7 and May 13</b>.

The election time-table this year has not only kept the Chief Minister busy even beyond the polling day in his State, but also robbed the State of a grand celebration for the golden jubilee of Gujarat’s foundation. Having been carved out of erstwhile Bombay State on May 1, 1960, the State of Gujarat on Friday entered the 50th year of its creation which called for an extravagant celebration. But it had to be put off due to the poll schedule and the model code of conduct being in force.

On the other hand, with fortunes of their nominees locked in the EVMs till May 16, both Congress and BJP have claimed that the low voting pattern indicates their victory. Normally, a low polling rate makes the political parties jittery as they suspect their supporters have stayed away from voting. But this time, a State-wide polling of around 50 per cent is being interpreted by both BJP and Congress as being to their advantage. The assumption behind such thinking is that the voters did not bother to turn up simply because of the heat wave and not due to any disenchantment with the party or the candidate.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>BJP demands repoll</b>
Alleging large-scale rigging during the April 16 polling in Arunachal West parliamentary constituency, the BJP on Friday demanded repolling in two Assembly segments falling under one of the two Lok Sabha seats of the Northeastern State. <b>The party claimed that 35 polling stations in Mukto and Palin Assembly segments witnessed voting in excess of 100 per cent and directly blamed the ruling Congress of rigging the poll.</b>

BJP MP from Arunachal West Kiren Rijiju, who is seeking reelection, petitioned Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla on Friday requesting him to conduct re-poll in entire Mukto and Palin Assembly segments. He demanded repoll should be held in 66 polling stations.

<b>Flashing voter turnout documents signed by poll officers, he claimed the poll authority figures showed that votes in excess of 100 per cent were cast in several polling stations. “Palin constituency registered 102.53 per cent polling, while Mukto Assembly seat witnessed 97.47 per cent polling,” </b>Rijiju said. He alleged that polling agents of the BJP and other parties were forcefully removed from the polling stations by men who captured booths.

“The security personnel at all the polling station were unable to stop the rigging as each polling station was guarded by a lady police and a constable armed with batons,” Rijiju claimed. <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

http://election.rediff.com/inter/2009/may/...not-muslims.htm

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Uttar Pradesh has more than 3 crore (30 million)Muslims. That amounts for around 23 percent of Indian Muslims. According to the 2001 census, UP's population was 16 crore (160 million) and Muslims are 18.5 percent of the population.

In UP, according to the 2001 census, out of 70 districts (UP now has 71 districts) 21 districts have a sizable population of Muslims and are recognised by the government as districts having 'minority concentration'.

Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muzzafarnagar, Bijnore, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit [Images], Bulandshahr, Badaon, Lucknow [Images] and Bahraich districts have more than 25 percent but not more than 50 percent Muslim population. Rampur has the highest concentration of Muslims in UP along with Bijnore and Moradabad.

I belong to Bareilly, so I have observed the politics of neighbouring areas like Rampur, Pilibhit and Moradabad quite closely.

Muslims of western UP are in a precarious position this election.

Why?

Because they believe that no secular party -- whether it is the Bahujan Samaj Party, Samajwadi Party or the Congress -- has done anything for them. They thought the Bharatiya Janata Party [Images] is their enemy party. Now, they are confused what to do? Whether to defeat the BJP or not? To do so, they are forced to vote for candidates and parties whom they don't like.

That is why I say the Muslim voters are in a very precarious position. They are not supporting any party or candidate of their choice. They are under compulsion and they know that the secular parties for whom they cast their votes have not done anything for them. But what is the choice? The BJP? They tend to think the BJP is the greater evil amongst these choices.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

According to: http://www.politicsparty.com/astrology_pre...09_analysis.php
BSP's around solid 20% votes cast become 40% if u compare it to others as others are not even voting 50%.
Any party to win seats in UP needs only 20-23% votes.
Actually in 2004, INC got 10% and 10 seats, and BJP got 20% and 10 seats
Mulayam got 28% and 38 seats

In 2007 assembly elections, Mayawati got 31%

In 1991, 1996, 1998, BJP got 33% and 60 seats

One of the good outcomes of this election is that muslims have ditched
Mulayam

This will force the yadavs and OBC to soon vote BJP when SP unravels

BJP a party of the rich, says Rahul
30 Comments | Post Comment
Ajmer (Rajasthan):

Rahul Gandhi on Monday termed BJP as pro-rich and claimed that the saffron party rake up just before elections issues on terrorism and black money - two fronts, which the Congress General Secretary said NDA failed miserably to tackle during its tenure.

"Before the election, they (BJP) started talking about money stashed in Swiss bank accounts. They did not take any step towards when they were in power. Why don't they talk about corruption in the previous government of Rajasthan?" he said addressing an election rally in Ajmer.

On terrorism, Gandhi lashed out at BJP leader L K Advani for his claim of being a "strong leader" saying, "What kind of a strong leader is he who did not know that terrorists were being released?"

Gandhi was referring to the 1999 IA plane hijacking, during which three dreaded terrorists were freed at Kandahar in Afghanistan.

The Gandhi-scion also said while Congress worked for the poor, BJP was a party for the rich.

"Congress' thought and concern are for all sections in society -- poor, worker, farmers, backwards, tribals... but for them (BJP) it (their thought) is only for the rich people," he said.

Gandhi also charged BJP with trying to hide the real India and showing least concern for the poor and cited the saffron party's India Shining slogan during the 2004 elections to drive home his point.

Gandhi said India was not shining in the homes of poor, backward, tribals, and people living in slums and hamlets.

"When we came to power (2004), we promised that ours will be the government of the poor and we did it successfully," the young Congress leader claimed referring to schemes like NREGA and waiver to the farmers.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Gupta smells a scam, says Sibal favoured Chinese firm</b>
pioneer.com
Parvaiz Sultan | New Delhi
The last day of campaigning in the Capital was a day for candidates to show their strength among voters in their respective constituencies.

Chandni Chowk BJP candidate Vijender Gupta on Tuesday came forth with allegations against his opponent Kapil Sibal, Union Minister and the Congress candidate, ranging from his involvement in a weather radar scam to defending the accused of the country’s biggest scam.

<b>Gupta also demanded a CBI inquiry as to how the Congress managed to ask rivals Shoaib Iqbal and now Haji Dilshad to pull out of the election and support candidates of the Congress. </b>

Attacking Sibal on the radar scam case, Gupta alleged that the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), which comes under the purview of Sibal, the Union Minister of Science and Technology, awarded a tender for the supply of S Band Doppler Weather Radars to a Chinese company violating the tender procedure and provided an unfair advantage.

<b>“The job was awarded to Beijing Metstar at the value for Rs 105.85 crore ignoring the lowest quotation of Rs 98. 06 crore. Beijing Metstar is not the manufacturer but only an assembler,” Gupta said, placing a copy of a letter written by Bharat Heavy Electronic Limited (BHEL) to IMD highlighting the irregularities committed while awarding the contract</b>. He was addressing a Press conference at the Delhi State BJP office.

The radars were also manufactured by BHEL, he said. “The tender was given to a company in China. Radars are related to the national security and safety and the country is better equipped to develop these technologies,” Gupta said. Demanding a CBI probe into the matter, Gupta said Sibal should step down from the Cabinet.

Gupta further alleged that the Congress party is known for its horsetrading which it is again engaging in to win the elections. Speaking to mediapersons, Gupta claimed that the withdrawal of candidature of Haji Dilshad Ali, the BSP contestant from North-East Delhi, exactly two days before the polls was a clear example of the fact.

“<b>The Congress is anxious and it has realised that it is all set to lose seven seats in Delhi. Therefore it is not deterring from indulging in unfair practices. The nervous party is now buying candidates of other parties which is not good for the democracy,”</b> Gupta said.

<b>“What has happened in North-East Delhi seat on Monday, we all know. Haji Dilshad Ali, the BSP candidate, was won over with money. Shoaib Iqbal, the LJP nominee, was also purchased earlier,”</b> Gupta said.

Urging the minority community to vote for BJP, the BJP aspirant also demanded a CBI inquiry into how Sibal convinced Iqbal not to contest the election. <b>“People like Dilshad and Iqbal are playing with the sentiments of Muslims in connivance with the Congress party. Now the Muslim bhai have realised that to teach them a lesson, they must vote for BJP,” </b>he said, adding that wherever he went during his campaigning in Walled City; he received overwhelming response from Muslim voters.

Nand Kishore Garg, former MLA, who was also present at the Press conference, alleged Dilshad received money for retiring from the election in favour of Congress. Seeking appropriate action against Jai Parkash Agarwal, the Congress candidate from North-East Delhi, he said, “I have written to the Election Commission that action should be taken against JP Agarwal and his candidature should also be cancelled.”

<b>“It was Sibal who defended Lalu Prasad, accused in the country’s biggest financial scam. Sibal also owns a house in Patna. And they claim to eliminate terrorism and corruption from the country!” </b>Gupta said.

Gupta further questioned the wealth showed by Sibal in his affidavit.<b> “Sibal is saying that he has not been practicing law since 2004. How has his wealth risen to Rs 23 crore from Rs seven crore in five years?”</b> he said.
