The University will next year start a course on intelligence and internal security system to teach aspiring students the nuances of countering global terrorism.
The attitude of most Indians (with respect to Pakistan) is funny, to say the least. When Pakistan was weak and without nuclear weapons, India could've dismantled it, and kept a leash on her. But when plenty of opportunities came up, Indians adopted a moral attitude, and did nothing. Now that Pakistan is a nuclear state, we wonder what to do. This question must've been asked thirty years ago, it's too late now.

NEW DELHI: A week after the militants wreaked carnage in Mumbai, 'Supercop' KPS Gill termed the commando operation as one of "weak strategy and poor implementation" and said the fighter-in-him was still ready for any combat.

"It is shameful that it took more than 60 hours to neutralise a handful of mercenaries. I still have enough drive left in me to counter terrorism," the former Punjab DGP said.
I am ready to take up any responsibility in the war against terrorism, without a second thought."
The iron hand that suppressed militancy in Punjab in 1980s, observed that a weak strategy and its poor implementation prolonged the mayhem, resulting in loss of
lives. However, he was quick to add that the presence of guests and staff in the hotels might have made the job of security forces tougher.

Gill said intelligence and security lapses led to the gruesome incident. "If intelligence agencies had inputs on a possible terror strike, why preventive measures were not
taken. If the Home Ministry was warned, effective and concrete measures could be taken to avert the strike."
"When the country is facing a serious threat from terror outfits, such an approach is unpardonable," he said.
The former DGP demanded that the police force be equipped with the latest combat arsenal. "It is necessary to counter terrorists with modern weaponry. We need to be a step ahead of the terrorists. Personnel should be trained in for special operations," he said.
On politicians indulging in blamegame over the menace, he said a strong will was required to rein in terror.Â

The Mumbai police have revealed the pictures and the names of nine terrorists, killed in encounter during November 26-terror attack on Mumbai on Tuesday.
The information was obtained from Mohammed Ajmal Amir Iman alias Kasav, the lone arrested terrorist who is in police custody, a senior police official said.
"Most of the photographs were recovered from the fake college identity cards that were recovered from the bodies of the terrorists," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria informed.
However, the ID cards of three terrorist were damaged and their photos could not be recovered from them, so, the police had to release the photographs of their dead bodies, he said.
Meanwhile, photo of one of the terrorists was not released since his body was badly charred. <b>Kasav has identified him as Nazeer alias Abu Umer, Maria </b>said by adding that Nazeer was killed by NSG commandos at the Taj Hotel.
The two persons who attacked the Chhatrapati Shivjai Terminus and Cama Hospital have been identified as<b> Ismail Khan alias Abu Ismail from Dera Ismail Khan and Mohammed Ajmal Amir Iman alias Abu Mujahid from Okara</b>, the arrested terrorist, Rakesh Maria said.
Those who attacked Taj Hotel in south Mumbai were identified as <b>Hafeez Arshad alias Bada Abdul Rehman from Multan, Javed alias Abu Ali from Okara, Shoaib alias Soheb from Sialkot and Nazeer alias Abu Umer from Faisalabad</b>, he added.
<b>Nasir alias Abu Umar from Faisalabad and Babar Imran alias Abu Akasha </b>from Multan are the two terrorists who attacked the Jewish community centre in Nariman house in the Colaba area, Maria said.
<b>Abdul Rehman alias Abdul Rehman Chhota from Multan and Fahadullah alias Abu Fahad from Okara</b> were the duo who attacked the Trident Oberoi hotel, he said.
"<b>Shoaib, who was 20-years-old was the youngest of the group while Nasir was the oldest at 28," </b>Maria said by adding that the <b>average age of the members of the group was between 23 to 25 years</b>.
Nasir, Nazeer and Ismail Khan, allegedly the leader of the group, had participated in terror missions earlier, Maria said. He refused to specify any details of their previous missions.

Now was the political pressure from opposition types who'll always make noise if news not favorable to them - something a decorated officer could easily handle if facts were with him? Or the pressure from ruling leadership to extract a pre-desired result which didn't fit with the facts on ground?

Could pawar have facilitated the Dawood Ibrahim part of the attacks? Reason I ask is the Mumbai riots had a pawar hand as he felt that VP naik was getting too strong for his britches. So the rumor was he ahd initated the riots to topple him and that happened eventually. Off course bomb blasts came afterwrds and they are etched in memory.

The NCP president, who is Agriculture Minister in the UPA government, conceded that questions were indeed raised in the party on this step. He was in the Congress then and had been sent to Mumbai by P V Narasimha Rao to put the city back in order in the wake of the riots that had led to a sharp polarisation between Hindus and Muslims after the Babri Masjid demolition.
Pawar said the polarisation of those days was creeping back after the July 11 train explosions. The bombs had been planted in first-class compartments of the Western Railway suburban line to target those from the higher salaried sections, as very few Muslims would be in those compartments.
