This was how Home Minister Shivraj Patil reacted to questions on media criticism of him, especially his change of three sets of clothes on the night of Delhi blasts on Saturday.

The nitwit doesn't get it. If he had been sleeping/playing cards/drinking/frequent bar girls, we could have understood the dismal results he's delivered till date.
What the hell's he been doing for past 5 years to show for his sorry record? Other than playing 'item girl' to shunt Sonia across the continent on tax payer funded planes and choppers?
Can he list one, just one achievement as a Home minister of India? It's time people voted him out of office so he can enjoy his sleep and drinks and bars.

But people did not elect him to power in the first place. People defeated this guy in 2004, in his own Latur constituency:

BTW, is there a way he can change his name. 'Shivraj' should be removed from his name. Vishwanath also. Actually Patil also. call himself Soniadas Anath Gandhi.

When cowards run the State, the nation bleeds

Tarun Vijay

September 17, 2008

Again the same old stories, the same threats and same resolve of politicos, like wet, squeezed paper. We told you so, at that date and time, but you didn't listen. We asked for a stringent law. Our intelligence department was warned, yet no one acted.

It's a plot to derail the peace process with Pakistan, we shall never get trapped but continue our mohabbat. They are not Islamists. Bad guys have no religion, so don't say it's Islamic terrorism. They come from nowhere. May be from Mars [Images], but certainly not from Pakistan or Saudi Arabia. They are not our people, not Kashmiris or Delhi-ites.

Don't embarrass Pakistan by pointing fingers at it or at SIMI [Images] or Hurriyat -- we are continuing with our Confidence Building Measures and such blasts aim to disrupt it. Why should we allow that?

Another feature, another magazine: SIMI is an association like the YMCA, these communal hate-mongers have connived with the Congress government to implicate them wrongly while they were conducting adult education classes. Please see the truth from secular eyes and defeat the anti-Afzal Guru crowd. Maybe the next time we will include Afzal as a minister for internal security after having experimented with the Muslim League as a partner in governance.

The Deoband's concerned maulvis will again issue a statement to be welcomed by all peace-loving people. Look, they have again said that their scriptures don't recommend this kind of violent jihad and killing innocent people. But no one would ask them how many killers of the jihadi variety have turned peaceniks and left their bomb factories after such dictates.

'Hindu intolerant groups behind such bomb blasts!' -- another secular television channel would scream -- because they create an atmosphere to malign Muslims and get votes, it's election time folks. These bomb blasts, like the Godhra train fire, have been planned by Hindu chauvinists.

A job well done. We can all go to sleep.

When cowards run the State, the nation bleeds.

A will to eliminate the weeds and face the wrath of malevolent elements with the confidence of a victor is the prerequisite to be a ruler and, yes, to be a citizen. If it's there, you build a nation. If not, civilisations vanish.

If citizens encourage and harbour the wicked, forget dates like December 13 that should be remembered, forget to take revenge on anti-nationals, continue with their late-night parties when dead bodies of their fellow citizens lie splattered in busy fashion markets, no one can save that deadwood society.

Where writers and columnists advocate yielding to the gun-wielding secessionists because 'they want it', no one can save that country from disintegrating as every day new secessionists will emerge.

It's useless to blame this party or that organisation. See what we have done and to what level the state of affairs have been brought to. Everything boils down to personal wars and wins, and homemade potboilers rule the top echelons of organisations.

The nation as a matter of serious planning and vision has simply vanished off the agendas of those who are the known faces of our leadership and decision-making mechanism of the State.

Personal jealousies, vendettas and mandi-isation of the high and mighty turn peoples' security into a joke of the ghostland where signal-jammers and black cat commandos iconise the Neros and the Republic is left to fend for itself.

This is our state of affairs today.

Any day, any time, anyone.

Free Afzal committees. Visits to the Azamgarh home of a terrorist. Demand citizenship for Bangladeshi infiltrators. Demand ban on patriotic organisations. Win the election. That's the final aim of governance and our living. Only the people are to be blamed. It's a democracy. Choose those who bring you safety and succour. If you choose the marauders you get back marauders.

The Indian people, as Indians alone, have done it marvellously before too whenever the occasion demanded solidarity and cohesion. Kargil [Images] saw it, 1965 saw it, 1962 had a great solidarity of the patriots. Always, it's the leaders and politicians who have failed the country and backstabbed the trust people had reposed in them.

Peoples' power saw that the culprits behind the Uphaar cinema fire tragedy case were brought to book, however influential they may be. It was because of their pressure and media build-up that the Nandas were punished in the BMW [Images] case. The Right to Information Act is a great instrument given to the people not because politicians wanted it but there was public pressure to have it and finally it was done.

And look how Jammu rose to see the tricolour win against the Pakistani flag-wallahs. No one had ever imagined a people can create an upsurge unknown in regional history and win too. Great things happen nimble-footed. The British never had ay inkling of the 1857 uprising till Mangal Pandey shot the British officer in Barrackpore. Jayaprakash Narayn's too was a movement whose expanse and impact no one had anticipated, and so was the Ram Janambhoomi movement that changed the contours of the Indian polity.

If people will, they can.

Indians will have to decide how many more will have to die before they feel compelled to rise in revolt. India needs a rebellion of Indian people who would merge all their other identities under one banner -- the tricolour. Forget temples, churches and mosques. The first to protect the church should be a Hindu like the first to protect a swami should be a Christian. That's where the nation gets life.

When the nation is in peril, gods must be discovered in national unity and not within concrete structures. These ugly, nincompoop politicos need to be thrown into the dustbin lock, stock and barrel. The truth is we, as Indians, never paid a price for our independence and honour. When I had interviewed Morarji Desai, which turned out to be one of his last, in his Mumbai apartment, he said not more than five percent Indians had participated in the independence struggle. The rest were either too lazy to come out or had lined up before the British for bakshish and be their officers.

Read what Abraham Lincoln did to save America from disintegration and his famous Gettysburg address and also his inaugural one as president. He accepted a civil war but refused the demand to divide America. Nearly seven lakh Americans died in that war, but a new sun rose on its horizon that inspired millions across the globe with its egalitarian and democratic values. <span style='color:purple'><span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>(what??)</span>

What sacrifices have we offered to save national integrity and the civil life of our nation?

Isn't it time to ask this question and rise in rebellion to say 'no' to this bloodbath unitedly?</span>

Govt about-turn on need for stringent law, but nothing concrete
As pressure mounted on the UPA Government to shun its complacency in checking the growth of terror, the ruling establishment on Wednesday sent confusing signals on the demand for enacting tougher laws and make the Union Home Ministry responsible for the country's internal security.

<b>On a day when the Government was hyper-active to silence its critics and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh talked of a legislation to strengthen the anti-terrorism law, the Congress backed his stance and also harped on setting up a federal agency. </b>Also, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil made a presentation before the Cabinet to revamp policing and intelligence gathering.

After a nearly three-hour Cabinet meeting, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee came out with a brief statement. "The Union Cabinet was briefed by Home Minister Shivraj Patil. He has suggested measures. Those measures have been approved by the Cabinet," Mukherjee said without elaborating.

Delhi police on Friday shot dead two persons, suspected to be terrorists involved in the September 13 blasts in the national capital, <b>in a lane near the Khalifullah mosque in South Delhi's Jamia Nagar</b>.
Special Cell Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who was injured during the encounter, died at the Holy Family Hospital on Friday night.

"The special cell got information from the control room and came here to nab the men. From the information we have now, two persons were killed and two of the special cell policemen have sustained bullet injuries," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) HGS Dhaliwal. <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The redoubtable KPS Gill was speaking a bitter truth when he suggested on a Friday evening TV show that the death of Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma saved the Delhi Police from being lumbered with shrill and politically loaded accusations of having staged a false encounter in Jamia Nagar. That a police force doesn't get its top daredevil wilfully eliminated in a stage-managed show inside a hostile ghetto should be apparent. Unfortunately, when it comes to the social environment of counter-terrorism, common sense is at a discount.

Consider the social environment of Friday afternoon's raid that culminated in bloodshed. It was pretty apparent that the terrorists chose this part of Jamia Nagar as a safe hideout because it offered two layers of protection: <b>The logistical security of an over-congested locality and, equally important, community protection. The sight of a police force conducting a major anti-terrorist operation while being abused by a local community chanting religious war cries is disturbing</b>.<b> Though the organised obstruction of counter-terrorism operations has become a feature of Hyderabad, its spread to Delhi has ominous implications</b>.

It has become drearily predictable for every terrorist or terrorist facilitator to use the political clout of a community as an additional protective cover. <b>On Friday, the slain Mohammed Atif was given generous character certificates by friends and neighbours</b>. In his native Azamgarh, a media team was held hostage by angry villagers who insisted that the Indian Establishment was out to vilify educated Muslims. A few days back, the mother of Abdus Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer, said to be the Master Terrorist, berated the media and the police for painting her son as India's Osama bin Laden. Her Press conference was organised by organisations such as the Muslim Personal Law Board and those who claim to control the Muslim mind (and, by implication, their voting behaviour). In 2006, it was a similar outcry from Muslim organisations that led to the State Government more or less abandoning the search for those responsible for the train blasts that killed 209 people on July 11 that year. Among those who got away as a result was the same Tauqeer.

<b>This contrived victimhood is pernicious and plays into the hands of those who feed on the self-serving theory that Muslims can expect no justice in "Hindu" India</b>. It enables Islamist radicals to link the Indian experience with other Muslim battles against an unjust world and posit an alternative centred on the fantasies of <b>a Nizam-e-Mustafa.</b> The Indian Mujahideen emails testify to the garbage that passes for nutritious thought in a ghetto built on theological certitudes. The weirdos who believe that 9/11 was a Jewish conspiracy to target Muslims are capable of committing themselves to the transformation of India into a Dar-ul-Islam. Bad ideas, it would seem, have a remarkable habit of taking hold of "educated" minds.

This is not to suggest that the police forces have an exemplary record. There is certainly something peculiar about the posthumous transformation of Atif from just another suspect who needed to be questioned into the "mastermind" of all the blasts, thereby overshadowing the elusive Tauqeer. <b>It is understandable that there is a lot of public and political pressure on the Government and the Union Home Minister to "crack" the Delhi blasts case</b>. However, is it necessary to prey on the willingness of crime reporters to swallow every police handout uncritically? <b>More important, is the Centre playing a game of one-upmanship with the Gujarat Government and trying to tell Narendra Modi that what you can do in 25 days we can do in just six?</b> Public faith in the UPA's ability to handle internal security isn't enhanced by the police making claims that may become impossible to substantiate? Nor do the death of the alleged mastermind and the arrest of two accomplices convince people that there is more to Shivraj Patil than an elaborate wardrobe.

India faces a serious threat that cannot be handled with the same casualness that was evident in the Arushi murder case. With growing evidence that the SIMI is still active and has a measure of vocal support in Muslim ghettos, it has become necessary to add a social and political dimension to counter-terrorism. If the community support that manifested itself in Jamia Nagar last Friday afternoon persists, the danger of stealth bombers being replaced by a supply of suicide bombers becomes very real.

These are issues that the Muslim community and its leadership can no longer run away from. If younger sons of small-time Samajwadi Party politicians have ended up as bomb planters, it implies that the Muslim elders are losing their grip on the younger hotheads in the community. If madarsa teachers like the notorious Abu Basher and small-time maulvis like Waliullah Qazmi (convicted of the Varanasi blasts) end up as the new mujahideen, it obviously means that there is something about Deoband's anti-terrorism pledges that has escaped the eye. Banking on Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh, Lalu Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan to defend the indefensible will work up to a point but will become useless if an alternative common sense takes over the Indian mind.

<b>If Muslim community leaders are serious about their proclamation that Islam is a religion of peace, they will have to walk the talk.</b> India still awaits the unambiguous theological denunciation of not merely terrorism but specific terrorist groups like SIMI, HUJI, JEM and IM and specific terrorists such as the convicted Varanasi bomber and the man on death row who conspired to attack the Indian Parliament. Anything else is tantamount to short-changing India.

UP, JBAD were Atif beat; IM & SIMI LeT fronts
With the encounter killing of "mastermind" Atif and the arrest of two of his close associates Zeeshan and Saif, Delhi Police have exposed the involvement of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT) in the serial blasts across the country, including Delhi.

"LeT was the vital link of SIMI and Indian Mujahideen and had a big role to play in blasts across India," Special Cell Jt CP, Karnal Singh said.

Addressing a Press conference on Saturday, Singh said<b> Atif was a votary of al-Qaeda philosophy. "The laptop seized from the encounter premises gave us several clues. That Atif was inspired by Al-Qaeda was evident in the content of his laptop which had photographs of Osama, Tauqeer and Safdar Nagori. The laptop has been sent for forensic examination,"</b> Singh said.

The alleged terrorists Saif alias Rahul Sharma and Mohd Sajid alias Pankaj, had faked all documents, including the rent agreement affidavit and the driving licence. Saif, now in police custody, and Sajid who was shot on Friday, were present in Delhi, Jaipur and Ahmedabad at the time of the blasts.

The modus operandi was meticulous and to evade arrest, they did not carry any mobiles on blast days. However, one of them did carry a mobile phone to Jaipur but without a simcard and used it to capture the blast ordeal of the common man. This phone, along with video clips of the Jaipur blasts, is in the custody of the Delhi Police.

Investigations reveal that Atif was Indian Mujahideen's "main man" liasoning with SIMI. He was the person who used to take decisions on the place of the blasts and the gameplan. Besides, he motivated classmates and juniors to join terror operations. <b>All the 13 terrorists identified by Delhi Police in connection with the blasts in UP, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Delhi hailed from Azamgarh.</b> Out of them two were killed in the encounter while two others have been arrested. Nine are still at large. The two who escaped from Friday's shootout were Sehjad alias Pappu and Junaid.

<b>"Saif and Khalid placed bombs at Regal, Sajid and Zeeshan at Barakhamba and Shakeel at Gaffar Market. Sehjad, still at large, placed the bomb at Children's Park at India Gate, which was later defused. Malik assisted him in placing the bomb there. At Central Park, Sajid kept the explosives. After placing the bombs all of them returned to their L-18 Jamia Nagar hideout," Singh said. </b>

<b>The explosives for Delhi came from Karnataka. </b>

<b>With the arrest of Saif and Zeeshan later in the night from Jhandewalan of Central Delhi, the serial blasts in UP courts last year had also been cracked.</b>

<b>Singh said Saif had planted the bomb in Varanasi courts along with Sajid, IM's main bomb maker, that left over a dozen dead.</b>

Earlier in the day, Saif and Zeeshan were produced in court and remanded to 14 days' police custody.

"Considering the abhorrent and fiendish acts that rattled Delhi last Saturday and the police was also bereaved of an officer during the investigation and to unearth the conspiracy, both the accused are remanded to 14-day police custody,"
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Kanwaljeet Arora said.

Wage a relentless war on terror

The Delhi Police appears to have at last woken up to the threat posed by homegrown jihadis who are responsible for last Saturday's bombing in the national capital which extracted a terrible toll and scarred many more for the rest of their lives. <b>As much is evident from Friday's encounter at Jamia Nagar, for all purposes a Muslim ghetto long suspected to shelter malcontents and assorted criminals, in which two terrorists of the shadowy group that calls itself the 'Indian Mujahideen' and has claimed responsibility for the recent spate of bombings, were killed. A third member has been arrested along with other suspects.</b> Tragically, Delhi Police has lost a highly-decorated officer with an excellent track record of combating criminals in the encounter. Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma died of bullet injuries sustained during the fierce gun battle, but his death, hopefully, shall not be in vain. Now that the initial breakthrough has been made and the jihadi fort has been breached, the battle must be taken to its logical conclusion. In the war against terror, there can be neither compromise nor retreat; there is no question of compassion for those waging war against the state. Indeed, had the police been equally alert and tough all along, perhaps <b>last Saturday's grisly massacre could have been avoided. It can be argued that the police required actionable intelligence -- which our intelligence agencies are clearly incapable of providing -- to conduct a pre-emptive strike</b>. But if there is cooperation between the police of various States and real time information is exchanged as well as acted upon, <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>there is no reason why the handicap posed by intelligence agencies busy pandering to the political bosses of the day cannot be overcome. </span>For evidence, we have Friday's successful counter-strike: <b>Obviously, information provided by the Gujarat Police, which has been able to unravel the Indian Mujahideen's terror plot to a large extent without any assistance from Central agencies, and interrogation of jihadis arrested for their role in the Ahmedabad bombings have been a useful input for the Delhi Police.</b>

But this by itself cannot sustain a long-drawn war on homegrown jihadis. What is also needed is political determination to destroy this evil root and branch. That determination is in extreme short supply as far as the UPA Government is concerned, <b>best exemplified by the Prime Minister's treacly concern for terrorists and their families and the Home Minister's contemptible waffle</b>. Had it not been for the outrage over the bombings and the blowback to the <b>Government's astonishing policy of appeasement, the Delhi Police would not have been allowed to act in such determined manner</b>. It is often ignored that the police in the national capital reports to the Union Home Ministry and not the State Government; its actions are often determined by the politics of the ruling party at the Centre. To that extent, the inaction and worse which preceded last Saturday's terrorist attack must be blamed on the Home Minister. At the same time, there is no reason to believe that the man who has made a mockery of his official reponsibilities has turned a new leaf. <b>For all we know, the Delhi Police were allowed to act against the terrorists holed up in Jamia Nagar to ease the pressure building on the Government.</b> Having achieved this limited -- and short-sighted -- objective, the Home Minister may once again put the Delhi Police on a tight leash and get back to doing what he does best: Change into fresh costumes every few hours. If that were to happen, it would be a pity and a shame. For the moment, we can only wait and watch

Pioneer.com
Rakesh Ranjan | New Delhi
In an unprecedented move, a Delhi-based lawyer turned down the requests by the landlord of the infamous L-18 Batla House to defend him in the court. Keeping the 'national interest' above his 'bread and butter', the lawyer withdrew the application moved in the court seeking bail for Abdul Rehman, caretaker of the Jamia Nagar house where the encounter took place on Friday. Rehman had moved the court for his bail through lawyer Santosh Kumar on Sunday. But on Monday during the hearing in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Sudesh Kumar , he withdrew on the grounds that 'his conscious did not allow defending advocates of terrorism'.

"I had taken up the case of Abdul Rehman because he appeared to be an innocent person. But after the police revealed his connection with Zia-ur-Rehman who has been arrested under terror charges, <span style='color:red'>I refused to plead for him," Santosh Kumar told The Pioneer. He also said that he had agreed to defend him keeping in view the interest of the judiciary, but later he decided to keep national interest above everything.</span> Kumar added that Rehman had told him that he had rented the house to the outside students, but when police arrested them for conspiring and executing the serial blasts, he decided to give up the case. Moreover, the revelation that Zia-ur-Rehman, one of the arrested terrorists, also made him withdraw from the case.

A city court on Monday extended the hearing on the bail petition of Abdul Rehman till Wednesday. The hearing was extended after defence counsel Santosh Kumar withdrew the bail application and refused to plead for Rehman. On the other hand, another lawyer Amarnath also filed an application before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Sudesh Kumar seeking permission to defend the case of Abdul Rehman.

Santosh Kumar said the police had earlier arrested him under the charges of cheating and forgery of documents. According to Santosh, Rehman himself had told him that he collected an amount of Rs 7,000 per month from them, whereas the rent agreement showed that he had rented the flat for just Rs 2,000. He also informed that Rehman had put his fake signature on the affidavit to clinch the agreement with the lessor. But the fact that he had rented the flat to his own son and that too in an illegal manner put a question mark on his intentions, he added.

<b>Rehman, who is also the father of Zia-ur-Rehman, one of the terrorists arrested by the police on Sunday morning, had approached the court after he was remanded to 14-day judicial custody. The police had booked Rehman under sections 420, 468 and 471 of IPC, that deal with cheating and forged documentation</b>. He is accused of providing affidavit with fake signature of the landlord to Atif alias Bashar, the alleged main man of Indian Mujahideen who carried out September 13 serial bombings and was killed in the encounter with police on Friday.

VC succumbs to Islamist pressure: Guilty of misconduct?
The decision of Jamia Milia Islamia to defend Delhi serial blast accused Mohammed Shakeel and Zia-ur-Rahman would amount to misuse of public funds. There is no provision under the funding rules promulgated by the University Grants Commission under which a university/college can defend an employee or student booked for a criminal act. "The decision of Jamia Vice-Chancellor Mushirul Hasan is most unfortunate as the public funds would be used to defend somebody who is being booked for waging war against the nation," said a UGC official.

The claim made by the Jamia Vice-Chancellor that the university being an autonomous body was well within its rights to take decisions on such matters has come to be questioned. Within hours of suspending two students who were arrested in connection with the Delhi serial blasts, Mushirul Hasan declared on Monday night that the university would defend its students in court.

Friends,

I'm preparing a Youtube presentation about the many serial terrorist bombings that have occurred in various Indian cities this year... Jaipur, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Delhi.

I am in need of images (jpg photographs) of the aftermath of these blasts. Truly graphic images, which convey the magnitude of the horror inflicted on innocent civilians, would be most impactful.

I have tried searching google etc. but I was wondering if anyone here has a collection of such images.

If you feel like it in the meantime, please check out my Youtube channel.

http://www.youtube.com/user/channelphor

I hope to draw enough of an audience, that the channel becomes an effective "527" against the pseudosecular parties, in time for next year's election. Any assistance in drawing more traffic to the channel would be helpful. It's time we stopped complaining about the lack of an Indic-friendly media outlet, and took matters into our own hands to create one.

Another presentation I'm planning to make, is a video version of the New York Times ad taken out by Indian-Americans that contained a fact sheet about Sonia Maino. Kangressis tried to sue the Indian-Americans who took out the ad, but the lawsuit was dismissed out of hand. Does anyone have a copy of the original ad available?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Rudradev
