Christian Subversion And Missionary Activities - 3

David Frawley's Speech, in Debate with Christian Missionaries in India

Delivered at a public discussion organised by Prajna Bharati A.P., on "The Ethics of Religious Conversions" at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Hyderabad.

I was raised as a Catholic and went to Catholic school. My uncle was, and still is, a missionary. We were told that he was going to South America to save the souls of the Native Americans, people we were told were non-Christian and without conversion would suffer eternal damnation. This is the background that I came from.

Today, throughout the world, and in the United States, with very little exception, there is no "Sarvadharma Samabhava" taught in religion. It is something I never encountered in my Christian education in the West.

We were taught that Hinduism was a religion of idolatry; it was a religion of polytheism and superstition and that there was no place for Hindus in heaven. Even a great Hindu like Mahatma Gandhi might be revered on a certain level, but he was not given the type of religious credit that he would have been given had he been a Christian.

These attitudes still exist throughout the world and India does not exist in isolation. And Hindus in India are, and India as a whole is, still being targeted for conversion. Why is this so? If all the religions teach the same thing, why is it that certain religions are seeking to convert the members of other religions to their beliefs?

These attitudes still exist throughout the world and India does not exist in isolation. And Hindus in India are, and India as a whole is, still being targeted for conversion. Why is this so? If all the religions teach the same thing, why is it that certain religions are seeking to convert the members of other religions to their beliefs?

Hinduism is a pluralistic tradition. It teaches that there are many paths, many scriptures, many sages, many ways to come to the Divine to gain self-realization and it should be free for the individual to find and follow whatever way he or she thinks or feels works best.

But not all religions are pluralistic. In fact, most religions are exclusive in their mentality and in their beliefs. The two largest religions in the world, with a few notable exceptions, teach that theirs is the only true faith. The average Christian throughout the world has been taught to believe that only Christians gain salvation. The idea has been projected as an eternal heaven for the Christians and an eternal hell for the non-Christians, particularly for idol-worshipping Hindus. And so far, we do not have major Christian leaders in the world contradicting that statement.

To date, there is no major Christian leader, or Moslem leader, in the world, who is saying that Hinduism is as good as Christianity or Islam. I do not know of any Christian leaders in the West who would say that a Rama or a Krishna is equal to a Jesus. I do not know of any of them who would honor a Ramana Maharshi, a Sri Aurobindo or a Mahatma Gandhi as a God-realized or self-realized sage. I realize there may be some exceptions to this, in the Indian context. But this is not the case with, and it is also not the official policy of the Vatican. It is not the policy of the Pope at all!

I want to read a statement, from "The Coming of the Third Millennium", which was issued very recently by the Pope, in relation to the situation in Asia:

"The Asia Synod will deal with the challenge for evangelization posed by the encounter with ancient religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism. While expressing esteem for the elements of truth in these religions, the Church must make it clear that Christ is the one mediator between God and man and the sole Redeemer of humanity."

This is a direct quote. Now, what is it saying about religious tolerance? Christ is the only way. The pope is saying that we accept what is true in these religions, but we do not accept them if they do not follow Jesus as the only way. We still have to convert them. That is the message. This is not a message of tolerance and live and let live. It is not a message of let Hindus have their way and we have our and both are good. It is not a statement that Buddha or Krishna is equal to Jesus.

It is a statement of exclusivism and my contention is that such exclusivism must breed intolerance. If I think that mine is the only way, how can I be really tolerant and accepting of you, if you follow another way? And such intolerance is going to end up causing conflict, division, disharmony and poor communication.

It is going to divide communities and cause problems. So, please bear in mind that, in the Indian context, as Hindus, you have to deal with these religions as the majority of the people in the world are practicing and believing in them, and this conversion process is continuing.

I also think that we should have a free, open, friendly dialogue and discussion on all religious matters, both in terms of social interaction and relative to doctrinal matters. There should be complete freedom of discussion, freedom of criticism and freedom of debate just as we have in science.

What generally happens in the field of conversion is that certain groups are targeted for conversion activity. I would like to discriminate between two different things. One is the change of religion, which people may opt for, based upon open and friendly discussion, debate, dialogue and studies. Nothing is wrong with that. But I would discriminate that from what I would call the "global missionary business".

The global missionary business is one of the largest, perhaps even the largest business in the world. Not only the Catholic Church, but also various Protestant organizations have set aside billions of dollars to convert non-Christians to Christianity. They have trained thousands of workers, have formed various plans of evangelization and conversion and have targeted certain communities for that particular purpose. This multi-national conversion business is like any multi-national economic business. It is not something that is simply fair and open. It is not simply a dialogue or a discussion.

So what we see with this missionary business is a definite strategy for one religion to convert the members of other religions. This conversion business is not about religious freedom. It is about one religion triumphing over all the other religions. It is about making all the members of humanity follow one religion, giving up and, generally, denigrating the religion they had previously been following.

Why is this conversion business so big in India? Because India is the largest non-Christian country in the world where missionaries have the freedom to act and to propagate. Islamic countries - Pakistan, Bangladesh - do not allow this missionary activity at all. In Saudi Arabia, you cannot even bring a Bible or a picture of Jesus into the country. China, also, does not allow such wide-scale missionary conversion activities.

So India, because of its very openness to and tolerance of these missionaries, has become the target. You know from recent newspapers that one missionary was killed in India, which is unfortunate. But in that same week, fifty Christians were massacred in Indonesia by the Moslems there. The religious violence is going on all over the world and Christians are not always the victims.

In India, for centuries, Hindus have been routinely killed for their religion. Even recently in Kashmir, a number of Hindus were massacred, but you will notice that, in the Western media, the death of Hindus for their religion will never count and will never constitute a story. However, if one missionary - one white man - is killed in India, then these Western countries will retaliate with sanctions, criticize, and take some moral high ground.

Missionary activity has a bloody history of genocide on every continent of the world. I am not going to go into all the details here. The Inquisition was in operation in Goa in India. The British used their influence, though less overtly, to force conversions, and certainly the missionaries had an advantage under colonial rule all over the world. In a number of countries, colonial interests used force and persuasion to bring about conversion.

We are told today that we should forget all about that, even though it has only been a generation or two since the colonial era. I say that we cannot forget so easily because the very religious groups that performed these atrocious acts have not yet apologized. If they recognize that this missionary aggression and violence that was done before 1947; that was done in the 19th century; that was done in Goa; that was done in the Americas was wrong, then why don't we get an apology for it?

You will notice that the Christians in America have made some apologies for what they did to the Native Americans. We have yet to see any apology relative to Hindus. If the missionaries want us to believe that they have changed their ways and are now purely non-violent and charitable, then why do they not at least apologize for what they did in the past?

And why should there be conversions at all? What is the motivation behind most seeking of conversions that is coming out of the Christian background? It is their belief that Christianity is the only true religion, Christ is the only saviour of humanity, Christians gain salvation or heaven and non-Christians gain damnation or hell. That is not a policy of harmony and tolerance but a blueprint for disharmony and conflict.

What ultimately happens when someone who has that attitude comes into a community and converts people? People are taught to reject their ancestors and their traditions. Families are broken up. Division and conflict almost inevitably occur wherever this missionary business goes on. There are actually many forms of Christianity and several different kinds of Christian missionary activity going on.

And there are Christian groups that are not missionary at all, for example, the old Greek Orthodox and the Syrian Christians, but which represent old and tolerant traditions. Then there is the Catholic tradition which is promoting its missionary activity all over the world but which is doing it in a more subtle way today. They are no longer using the force that they once used in the colonial era, but they are still aiming at global conversion. There are also the old Protestants, the Anglicans and the Lutherans, who are still promoting various types of missionary activity. That has gotten reduced to some degree as well.

However, there is a new evangelical force in the world today, particularly that coming out of the United States. What are the fundamentalist Christian groups of America? The World Vision, the Christian coalition, groups like Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Baptists and so on.

They are very actively asking for donations in America in order to convert Hindus in India. We see this routinely in the various television channels that they have. Pat Robertson, one of their main leaders, has said that Hinduism is a demonic religion.

They show Hindu gods with animal heads and say, "Oh! Look at how primitive these people are." They look at the political and social problems of India and say; "These are all owing to Hinduism. Please donate money to our cause so we can go to India and convert these people from this horrible religion that they have."

These same evangelical missionaries are going all over the world and also targeting Catholics. Recently, in Brazil, the Pope called these evangelical missionaries "wolves" because of what they were doing to, what he termed, "his flock of Christians", which was converting them to their form of Christianity.

So this missionary threat continues and some missionaries are going back to the old hell-fire, damnation, condemnation of Hinduism such as the Catholics used to do in the Middle Ages and in the colonial era. So do not believe that there is religious harmony all over the world and that the other religions respect Hinduism and are willing to live together quietly with Hindus.

In fact, in textbooks in America, it is taught that Hinduism is not a religion because Hinduism does not have only one God, one book and is not a missionary religion seeking to convert or conquer the world. So it is this missionary business which needs to be questioned and not simply conversion. And do not be naive about it!

There is a consistent use of social upliftment and charity to promote conversion. While social upliftment and charity are very good things, they should be separated from religious conversion. If you want to raise up a country and help them economically, please do so, but do not bring religion into it. When you put the picture of Jesus everywhere obviously religion and conversion are part of your motivation.

You will note that no country in the world has been raised up economically by religious conversion. What has made Japan a great country economically and what made the United States a great country economically are economic means, not a change of religion. Christian countries include some of the poorest countries in the world. The Philippines is the most Catholic and the oldest Christian country in Asia. It remains one of the poorest countries in Asia and has one of the greatest gaps between the rich and the poor.

QUOTEL.A. archdiocese to pay $660M for abuse

By GILLIAN FLACCUS

LOS ANGELES - The nation's largest Catholic archdiocese has settled its abuse cases for $660 million, by far the largest payout in the church's sexual abuse scandal, The Associated Press has learned.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the plaintiffs reached the deal Saturday, said Ray Boucher, the lead plaintiff's attorney. The archdiocese and the plaintiffs will release a statement Sunday morning and hold a news conference Monday, he said.

An anonymous source with knowledge of the deal placed its value at $660 million, by far the largest payout in the church's sexual abuse scandal. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the settlement had not been officially announced.

The amount, which would average a little more than $1.3 million per plaintiff, exceeded earlier reports that the settlement would be between $600 million and $650 million.

Some Roman Catholic orders — the Servites, Claretians and Oblates — will be carved out of the agreement because they refused to participate, the source said. The settlement also calls for the release of confidential priest personnel files after review by a judge assigned to oversee the litigation, Boucher said.

The settlements push the total amount paid out by the U.S. church since 1950 to more than $2 billion, with about a quarter of that coming from the Los Angeles archdiocese.

It wasn't immediately clear how the payout would be split among the insurers, the archdiocese and several Roman Catholic religious orders. A judge must sign off on the agreement.

The release of the priest documents was important to the agreement, Boucher said, because it could reveal whether archdiocesan leaders were involved in covering up for abusive priests.

"Transparency is a critical part of this and of all resolutions," he said.

Tod Tamberg, a spokesman for the archdiocese, did not immediately return a call seeking comment late Saturday. Previously, he said the church would be in court on Monday.

Plaintiff Steven Sanchez, who was expected to testify in the first trial, said he was simultaneously relieved and disappointed. He sued the archdiocese claiming abuse by the late Rev. Clinton Hagenbach, who died in 1987.

"I was really emotionally ready to take on the archdiocese in court in less than 48 hours, but I'm glad all victims are going to be compensated," he said. "I hope all victims will find some type of healing in this process."

The settlement is the largest ever by a Roman Catholic diocese since the clergy sexual abuse scandal erupted in Boston in 2002. The largest payout so far has been by the Diocese of Orange, Calif., in 2004, for $100 million.

Facing a flood of abuse claims, five dioceses — Tucson, Ariz.; Spokane, Wash.; Portland, Ore.; Davenport, Iowa, and San Diego — sought bankruptcy protection.

The Los Angeles archdiocese, its insurers and various Roman Catholic orders have paid more than $114 million to settle 86 claims so far. The largest of those came in December, when the archdiocese reached a $60 million settlement with 45 people whose claims dated from before the mid-1950s and after 1987 — periods when it had little or no sexual abuse insurance.

Several religious orders in California have also reached multimillion-dollar settlements in recent months, including the Carmelites, the Franciscans and the Jesuits.

However, more than 500 other lawsuits against the archdiocese had remained unresolved despite years of legal wrangling. Most of the outstanding lawsuits were generated by a 2002 state law that revoked for one year the statute of limitations for reporting sexual abuse.

Cardinal Roger Mahony recently told parishioners in an open letter that the archdiocese was selling its high-rise administrative building and considering the sale of about 50 other nonessential church properties to raise funds for a settlement.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge overseeing the cases recently ruled that Mahony could be called to testify in the second trial on schedule, and attorneys for plaintiffs wanted to call him in many more.

The same judge also cleared the way for four people to seek punitive damages — something that could have opened the church to tens of millions of dollars in payouts if the ruling had been expanded to other cases.S. church since 1950 to more than $2 billion, with about a quarter of that coming from the Los Angeles archdiocese.

So church avoided trial and covered up deep sexual abuse stories from media and public all over world.
In India, government, commies and media are in bed with them, whenever such news comes out, first they kill the messenger.

Mmm...makes me think what if the Indian commies, the Indian government (particularly Sonia and ManMohan), and the editors of some Indian english dailies also decide to sue the vatican for sexual exploitation, what a LOT of money they would have ALL made - after all the church has been using their services very regularly.

What a wasted opportunity. Perhaps its not too late.

K.G. Paul MD
For over twelve years Dr. K.G.Paul preached to thousands of people both in the
United States and India. Since the beginning of his ministry it has been his vision
that the message of Christ that touches the heart should also open the windows of
the mind so that we can be enlightened more profoundly by the Word of God.
He was born in India in 1976. He enrolled in Guntur Medical College 1994 to study
medical sciences and to pursue a clinical practice as a physician. During the years
in medical school it had been his constant experience to be intimidated by
professors who believed in Darwinian evolution and could not stand the creationist
teachings of the Bible. These experiences led Dr. Paul to become an incessant
student of the Bible and the thought systems of the world which oppose it's
message.
Being well-versed in creationism, comparative religions, and cults, Dr. Paul taught
human anthropology, missions, comparative religions, cults and evolution
vs.creation as professor of missions at Landmark Baptist College, Haines CIty,
Florida for a year in 2004-2005. In June 2005, he moved to New York to work as a
resident psychiatrist in Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in Bronx, NY. He
witnessed the disastrous effects of drugs, alcohol, sexual promiscuity and
godlessness in the patients who visited this hospital. These experiences
convinced him of the urgent need the United States faces in returning to its
Christian roots and to espouse the teachings of the Bible and the morality of Ten
Commandments.
In July 2006, he moved to India and worked as a physician in Christian Missionary
Hospital, Tenali and as a Bible teacher among Christian assemblies in the area. In
January 2007 he was married to his sweetheart, Dr. Nini, a research-fellow at
Cardiovascular Institute, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh. At the
same time, the Lord motivated him to establish a charity organization, COW Trust,
to help people in poverty to have access to quality medical care in India.

Liberalism, immorality, apostasy, radical Islam, New Age,
abortion, drugs and alcoholism, prostitution, etc plague
our church and the society. What is the responsibility of
the Bible-believing Christian in this culture?
In a culture like ours, the Christian can no more sit idle
and count on the times to change things and bring revival
in the almost dead church.

Dr. K.G.Paul's vision is
1. to teach the Word of God to the church that left its
anchor to the Bible
2. to reach the answers-seeking skeptic with the truth of
the Bible
3. to build assemblies based on the New Testament
principles of church building
4. to challenge the ideas and worldviews of people who
are in the leadership
5. to counteract the teachings and effects of Darwinism on
Christians
6. to encourage Christians to grow in the Lord to be the
light of the world
7. to help orphans and people in need with love of Christ
in the form of medical and rehabilitative help

Think It Over

Conversions were never a civilised affair
By M.S.N. Menon

Britain tried to assimilate its non-White population. It failed. Today, it is experimenting with multi-culturalism. It has not made a success of it either.

We are told by Christians and Muslims that they are “superior” to Hindus. Which is why, they say, Hindus are being converted to Christianity and Islam. What is the truth? What is their record in human relations?

Here are some facts. Judge for yourself.

For 1,600 years, the Christian church (European) held on to the belief that the Black man did not possess a soul and that he was the son of the Devil. Even today most of the Christians are not free from such thoughts.

Surely, after this, can we say that they are ready to accept the brotherhood of men? No. Then, why are they busy converting non-Christians to the Christian fold when they are unwilling to treat the convert as a brother?

The “colour problem” has a hoary past. The Bible says that the Black man was condemned to be a slave. This gave legitimacy to the slave trade.

Lord Palmerston, the British statesman, says that slave trade was the worst crime in human history. And both the Whites and Arabs are guilty of it.

America fought a civil war to get rid of the slave trade. And yet a report by former US President Clinton’s Advisory Board on Race Relations lamented that even after 110 years of “equal rights”, the Whites were “ignorant of the nature of the discrimination against the Blacks.” And after four decades of federal efforts at integration, “there were few spaces that Blacks and Whites occupy as equals.”

This makes me raise a relevant question: If the Whites (Christians) of America are unwilling to accept the non-White peoples as brothers and equals, why are they taking the lead in the evangelisation of the non-White world?

Perhaps Britain is the most colour conscious country in the world. “Among us”, writes a British daily, “are those with minds so warped and views so extreme that they will plan and carry out cold blooded murder because of the colour of your skin.” Indeed, many such murders have already been carried out.

Britain tried to assimilate its non-White population. It failed. Today, it is experimenting with multi-culturalism. It has not made a success of it either.

But it is crucial. The West will have to come to terms with the coloured peoples. It cannot reject them without inviting a sharp global response against it.

A multi-cultural society calls for political unity without cultural uniformity. This is not easy to achieve. There is no model to go by. India is the only country which has an incipient model.

But with the White man’s record of intolerance, slave trade, genocide, colonialism, imperialism, holocaust, apartheid, his record of human relations is indeed one of the worst. After this, how can he be superior to the Hindus? Which is why I object to the conversion of Hindus to Christianity. Christianity is a failure.

What about Islam? The Islamists say that they have an unfinished business: To convert the non-Muslims to Islam. Pray, what for? Because Islam is “Superior”? Let us see the record of the Muslims.

The Quran granted them the right to own slaves. The Arabs have been supplying slaves to Europe for a very long time—for as long as 1,300 years, while the European slave trade did not last for more than three-four centuries. Slave-trading was the most flourishing activity of the Muslim invaders in India. Mir Qasim took 60,000 slaves from Sind and Mahmud took 500,000 from Taneswar. These are just two instances.

Arabs were the main suppliers of eunuchs to the Muslim countries, for which children of 4-12 years were castrated. Removal of genitals caused extensive deaths, as much as 90 per cent. The profits were enormous, but the brutality was so great that it came to be called “the hideous trade.” The Ottomans wanted to abolish this trade, but the priests of Mecca opposed the Ottomans.

Conversions were never a civilised affair

Ayatollah Khomeini says: (August 24, 1979): “Islam grew with blood. The great Prophet of Islam carried in one hand the Quran and in the other the sword.” That is how most of the conversions took place. The learned Qazi Mughis-ud-din says on conversion: “Every device short of massacre in cold blood was resorted to in order to convert heathen subjects.” Here is human relations!

I can anticipate the response to this article: “What has all this to do with the present generation of Christians and Muslims? Yes, they are not directly responsible. But they can be honest—they can say that they do not claim to be superior to the Hindus.

Omer Farooq | Hyderabad
In a curious incident, the premier Osmania General Hospital was witness to religious propagation by two members of the Christian community, including an Army personnel, who approached seriously sick patients with the advice that they should convert to Christianity to be cured.

As the incident generated tension, the police rushed to the hospital and took Naik P Ebbeth into custody while the pastor, Isaac managed to slip away.

The Afzalgunj police station registered a case against the duo. According to the police Ebbeth is a naik in the Third Battalion at the EME Centre while pastor Issaac is working in the Bethel Church in Alwal near Hyderabad.

The duo created a stir by making inquiries from a patient, Prasad.

"They asked me why I was in the hospital. When I told them that I was suffering from an ailment, they asked me to become a Christian for quick relief," Prasad told the police.

The police also seized some literature left behind by the two. Police inspector Subbarayudu said that what had angered the people most was that the duo targeted Hindu gods and made nasty remarks against them.

Ebbeth told the police that he and the pastor were on a mission to preach Christianity at the behest of god. Ebbeth has been sent to judicial custody and the police are on the lookout for the pastor.

Govt. TV channels propagate Christianity
July 23, 2007

Mumbai (Maharashtra): With the blessings of secular Central Government, Christian missionaries have started propagation of Christianity making false promises to people that all problems pervading the world like crime, sexuality and poverty would be solved only when the world adopts Christianity. All 6 TV channels including Sahyadri channel and 5 radio-stations are thus propagating Christianity all over the world. (Hindus must now realize that Christians with their demonic ambition have spread their roots everywhere and should unite to fight against the assault.- Editor)

Everyday at 6.30 a.m., a program called “Enjoy everyday life” is telecast on Sahyadri channel (in Marathi) and ‘Zee’ Marathi channel from Monday to Saturday. This program is also shown on other Doordarshan and local T.V. channels in 10 different languages at 17 places in India. Besides, it is also broadcast on 23 radio stations. (On one hand, Pro-Christian and anti-Hindu Congress Government is trying to takeover management of temples, demolish ‘Ram-setu’, allot land at our places of pilgrimage like Tirupati and on the other hand, it is spreading Christianity. This is a conspiracy hatched by Congress against Hindu Dharma. The only solution is to end political regime of Congress.- Editor)

A lady named Meyer has founded an institution called ‘Joyce Meyer Ministry’ with head quarters at Nanakarmagud in the State of Andhra Pradesh. Outdated Christianity based on cruelty, violence and over sexuality has been discarded by people in the West. Such religion is burgeoning with the blessings of Central Government in our country. It has been learnt that the program has been started with approval of Central Government.

On 16th July, a program was shown on Sahyadri channel with an aim of bringing back youth from path of over sexuality. It was informed that in USA, 250,000 girls become mothers in adolescence before marriage; 80% of youth spend time in watching sex related programs or websites. Their parents go to church only once or twice in a week. For the same reasons, churches in Africa are deserted. (Are Christians responsible to desert churches or Christianity is not able to satisfy their spiritual needs? – Editor). Before the World War II, 65% people had faith in Bible. There were no such problems then. Now only 4 % people read Bible. (The reason is that Christianity has failed in solving their problems and in offering peace and bliss to people. This led to people turning to worldly happiness and they started searching for bliss in worldly matters. – Editor) It was recommended in the TV program to read a book titled “Mind a battlefield- youth and childhood” by Meyer.

Our youth are future citizens of this country. They should immediately get converted to Christianity to bring them on the right path. (Why Joyce Meyer is not spreading Christianity in Western countries where people are Christians by birth. – Editor). They should be disciplined till the age of 15 years. If this work is undertaken on war footing, in the next 5 years, 100 crores of youth would become Christians, disciples of Jesus. (Meyer is very systematically trying to mislead youth of this country and spreading Christianity – Editor). We need financial strength to achieve this goal and every entrepreneur and social worker should extend financial support so that new churches can be built to train people. At the end of the program a message is given that they are spreading love of Jesus to everyone so also poor people are given food and clothing and medical service to patients. (Pro-Christian Government will not do anything for Hindus and take action against Christians. Now Hindus need to become ‘Dharma-Yoddha’ and fight a war against them – Editor). There is prohibition on Government institutions or institutions run on Government aid to spread any religion as per Indian Constitution. Here ‘Sahyadri’ channel is propagating Christianity. Devout Hindus are therefore, getting awakened and feel that the ploy of Govt. to spread Christianity trampling provisions of Indian Constitution should be immediately stalled.

Fri Jul 27, 12:51 PM ET

MILAN (Reuters) - A new theory that Leonardo's "Last Supper" might hide within it a depiction of Christ blessing the bread and wine has triggered so much interest that Web sites connected to the picture have crashed.

The famous fresco is already the focus of mythical speculation after author Dan Brown based his "The Da Vinci Code" book around the painting, arguing in the novel that Jesus married his follower, Mary Magdelene, and fathered a child.

Now Slavisa Pesci, an information technologist and amateur scholar, says superimposing the "Last Supper" with its mirror-image throws up another picture containing a figure who looks like a Templar knight and another holding a small baby.

"I came across it by accident, from some of the details you can infer that we are not talking about chance but about a precise calculation," Pesci told journalists when he unveiled the theory earlier this week.

Websites www.leonardodavinci.tv, www.codicedavinci.tv, www.cenacolo.biz and www.leonardo2007.com had 15 million hits on Thursday morning alone, organizers said, adding they were trying to provide a more powerful server for the sites.

In the superimposed version, a figure on Christ's left appears to be cradling a baby in its arms, Pesci said, but he made no suggestion this could be Christ's child.

Judas, whose imminent betrayal of Christ is the force breaking the right-hand line of the original fresco, appears in an empty space on the left in the reverse image version.

And Pesci also suggests that the superimposed version shows a goblet before Christ and illustrates when Christ blessed bread and wine at a supper with his disciples for the first Eucharist.

The original Da Vinci depicts Christ when he predicts that one among them will betray him.

Sex charges against Indian Swami droppedQUOTEA local court has dismissed rape charges against an 85-year-old Indian Hindu religious leader after police announced that there was no evidence supporting the case.

Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj, who is from Uttar Pradesh, was charged in May with the rape of a 22-year-old Guyanese woman at his centre in Phillipne, south Trinidad. In her police complaint the woman said she had gone to seek spiritual assistance and guidance from the swami when she was raped.

The local court dismissed the charges against the swami after police said the case was false.

The swami was defended by one of Trinidad's top lawyers, Prakash Ramadhar.

Last month, the Swami was allowed to leave Trinidad to conduct his world tour preaching Hinduism. His Indian passport had been originally seized.

He had spent several hours in police custody following the rape charges.

The Swami will continue his original religious programme here for a couple of weeks before returning to India. He is accompanied by his wife and daughters.
