Hey, what is the significance of the jelly bean stuff? I am sure there must be some racial or religious slur there - it was quite obviously a deliberate act to provoke pretty violent reaction.
Sreesanth needs parental supervision to keep him from going postal at these sorts of provocations. I am ashamed - a guy brought up in KERALA, getting angry and losing his run-up rhythm? In Kerala for every college match the entire crowd is brought in exclusively to wage psychological warfare - and a lot of things are thrown, much worse than jelly beans.
Crowd throwing stuff is one thing versus players on the field doing so. IIRC, in Pakiland crowds used to throw bottles at our fielders along the deep boundary.

oh, absolutely. I am not arguing with the well-placed beamer that got Pietersen sitting down with brown pants. But losing rhythm and being stupid enough to get caught shoulder-charging Vaughan, was really bad.

Psychological warfare is aimed at making you lose concentration, and maybe get banned, like was done to Zidane by the bribe-taking, match-fixing Italian Mafia players. At such levels one has to be trained to expect that and recognize it instantantly, and have a few well-thought-out comebacks in store so you don't have to improvise in front of 50,000 goons and TV cameras and the poodle Umpires.
When we went to play the Engineering College many years ago, the regular openers were so scared (not entirely of their 6' 7" fast bowler as much as their Cheering Squad) that they sent me in instead. Worked fine, because I was too scared of the fast bowler to have any time to pay attention to the Squad, and they had no songs etc. ready for me since I was an unknown kid.
That was for the previous year's opener who used to come in wearing sharp buttoned-down whites and carry a comb in his back-pocket for the unlikely event of his hair blowing out of place. That was when they had no empty bottles yet throw.
I can't believe that Sreesanth, being a fast bowler, hasn't got immunized to such stuff.

jelly beans (and other candies) can be used to maintain shine on one side of the ball. I think they were trying to unsettle Zak's bowling and not batting.

If I recall correctly, in late 70s England's pace baller John Lever was busted in Bombay for using vaseline to shine the ball, think it was Syed Kirmani who caught him act.
I doubt they are still foolish enough to try shining ball with any other substance than their sweat. Especially in these days when there are hundreds of high quality cameras focused on the field.
It's amazing that no one caught the jelly bean incident on camera. Am sure going forward, cameras will be zoomed into what cricketers put in their mouth or spit.

I hope India now realize how much dropped catches mean..in ODI 3 we are 200/5 with 81 needed from 50odd balls ...
RP put down a sitter than would have made England 34/1..thanks to his drop they added 40 odd more runs for the opening partnership..
And we won ODI2 by 9 runs, we would have won it much more comfortably had Dhoni not dived and prevented Ganguly from taking a slip catch off one of the openers..

I hope this new Subash Chandra's ICL thing picks up - even if it's some second tier players, we can hope for better cricket than the current sorry bunch in England.
Going by comments of common people who watched the games and also by comments from Ravi Shastri et al, India is giving away the advantage consistently thru bad fielding, which includes allowing batsman to take easy singles/convert 1 to 2; and also dropped catches..see my post above.
Powar is a mini genda, but even Agarkar is slow in fielding, Dhoni has messed up a slip catch in ODI2, someone put down a sitter in ODI3. people are calling for Sehwag or kaif instead of Kartik..some are saying Dravid is doing Kartik in by sending him at #3..
I think Robin Singh the fielding coach should be fired...Bad fielding is just unacceptable..
Shambuji, Firing coaches is like applying band-aid for coronary heart diseases. What's Robin's fault? Does he even have any authority to penalize or reprimand the players with butter fingers? Greg Chappel too was fired, what good did that do?
If he does not have the authority, he should be given it then (and not be fired)..I did not know that he did not have even that authority..seems a commonsense authority to give to a fielding coach..
Umpiring in NatWest series ODI was highly unethical. Several LBW on Zaheer, Ramesh and Chawlasâs balls were not given out. In the last match (7th ODI), Paki umpire gave Dravid and Tendulkar caught behind. Both Dravid and Tendulkar were no where even near the ball in each case.
Dishonesty of umpires such as that filthy Paki umpire has to be addressed seriously. I want to stick a cricket bat up that Paki umpireâs a$$. Indian cricket board must ask ICC to investigate this Paki ba$tard.
England did not win this ODI series. Umpires won this series for England.
I agree with Viren. And in my opinion, coaches have very limited authority and they should not be made scapegoats.
Rahul Dravidâs decision to send Dinesh Kartik as number 3rd was seriously flawed. Rahul Dravid did well with his bat but he did not do well as a captain. Instead of firing and hiring coach, we can give Saurav Ganguly the command. He truly deserves the captaincy.
Seamers RP Singh, Zaheer, SriSanth and Agarkar did very well. Spinners Chawla and Power did excellent job. I loved SriSanthâs beamer. That was good. The obnoxious Kevin Peterson needed it. Top order batsmen disappointed me at times again. I am delighted to see Sachin is sort of back in form. Ganguly batted well. But he needs to look into the cause of his struggle in the last ODI. He needs to correct those issues ASAP. He was seriously struggling against seamers in the 7th ODI. Just play your game. Win or loose!
All in all India did well in both Test and ODI series.
Following factors went against India:
- Umpiring
- Fielding
- Collapse of top order batting line particularly in the last and crucial ODI match
