October 15, 2011

The Karnataka Hugh Court should, now that the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddiruppa has surrendered, be set free on bail at the earliest, if necessary by hearing his bail application at the Chief Justice’s residence. According to the 1994 Joginder Singh case, a Supreme Court Bench headed by the then Chief Justice Mr. Venkatachelliah, it was held that just because there was power to arrest for custodial interrogation, it was not necessary that such an arrest must be carried out. Mr. Yeddiruappa is too prominent a person to disappear without a trace, and he is not a position to tamper with evidence once the Report of the Karnataka Lok Ayukta has been submitted to the government.

Referring to programmes, implemented by the Narendra Modi government, Kalam pointed out that approximately one lakh officials in Gujarat, from the CM to taluka-level staff, agricultural scientists and other stakeholders, spend a month during April and May in rural areas demonstrating the best of technologies to farmers.

"Such initiatives indicate a strong administrative will to ensure development reaches the rural sector. Krushi Mahotsav tours all 18,600 villages of the state, providing information and counseling on soil health, organic farming, technology and inputs, irrigation, etc., besides infusing a new spirit of change and mass mobilization," he said while delivering the UPSC lecture on Governance and Public Service.

Besides, he said, the Gujarat government has also instituted an e-governance system linking the panchayat level, district HQs and the state government leading to transparency and speed in the decision-making process. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india...951501.cms
NEW DELHI: The plan for creation of the ambitious National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) has come under attack from non-Congress Chief Ministers, including ally Trinamool Congress, but the Centre rejected criticism that it would infringe on the states' powers.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee joined Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in opposing the setting up of the anti-terror body and wrote a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to "review and withdraw" the decision. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india...925903.cms

Quote:YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy was on Sunday arrested by the CBI after nearly 21 hours of questioning over three days in a disproportionate assets case. The 39-year-old Kadapa MP, who rebelled and left the Congress in Andhra Pradesh, was booked for criminal conspiracy, forgery, criminal breach of trust, falsification of accounts under the Indian Penal Code as well as under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Efforts to produce Reddy before a magistrate were being blocked by a dharna by his family at the Dilkusha guesthouse — the CBI’s temporary office.

Reddy heads a massive business empire, ranging from power generation to newspapers and TV.

Sonia's action is so obvious, complete retaliation, Congress think people will just watch.

I question the authority of the Chief Ministers to name districts - neither am I in favour of Mayawati nor do I support the actions of Akhilesh Yadav. To me, both are clueless on what good governance is all about. All they think of is votes, numbers and how to stay ahead of competitors in the political stage. Thousands of crores of Rupees are spent to boost the egos of these small town politicians to the detriment of economy. It is a garish display of power in the hands of undeserving people.
