<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Attack on Sonia brings out worst in Congress </b>
Pioneer.com
Deepak Kumar Jha | New Delhi
BJP members in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) came closed to being thrashed by Congress councillors on Thursday for taking their party president's name. They were commenting on Sonia Gandhi's "indifference" on the sealing and demolition issue exercising thousands in the Capital.

The BJP members who are in a miniscule minority at Town Hall were attacked with paper missiles, water bottles, audio systems and later roundly abused by senior Congress members, so much so that the House called to discuss the burning sealing issue had to be adjourned.

The incident occurred in the afternoon, minutes after BJP corporators trooped into the House after participating with traders in true Gandhigiri style outside the Town Hall. <b>The protesters had gathered outside the MCD Headquarters in Chandni Chowk, where they placed colourful bouquets and cards with 'Get Well Soon' messages before the civic authorities and the State Government, in sharp contrast to the violence that had marred their bandh last month</b>.

Unfortunately, discussions within the <b>MCD House turned ugly when BJP councillor Ram Kishen Singhal indulged in Sonia bashing, encouraging his partymen to chant, 'Sonia Hai Hai' and 'Sonia -murdabad'. This led to, as some councillors put it, 'Sanjay Gandhigiri' type of reaction from the Congress benches who enjoys a brute majority in the House</b>. Mayor Farhad Suri had to adjourn the meeting four times.

Worse was to come as Congress councillors attacked Singhal led by Congress member Prem Kumar and Ajit Chaudhary. Members from both parties exchanged abusive words in the presence of their female colleagues.

It all started when Congress councillor from Seelampur, <b>Zamir Ahmed in his address mentioned that they did not take to the streets in Seelampur as "hamein upar se aadesh tha,". </b>This was enough for the BJP members led by Leader of Opposition Subash Arya and Standing Committee member <b>Vijender Gupta to ask Ahmed whether the "aadesh" was from none other than Sonia Gandhi and allege that the Congress wanted the sealing and demolition to continue in the Capital</b>. They were joined by other members from their side.

<b>"The Congress party and the so-called Personal Assistant (PA) of Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have a secret agenda and that is why they have not been responding to the problems of Delhiites the way they had in Maharashtra,"</b> alleged Gupta. This led to uproarious scenes with Congress councillors jumping to their feet and literarily pouncing on their BJP counterparts demanding they withdraw their Sonia-centric comments.

The BJP benches steadfastly stood their ground refusing to withdraw or express regret as they claimed there was "nothing unparliamentary about the comment" leading to uproarious scene and final adjournment.

NEW DELHI: It was a no-holds-barred fight complete with abuses and threats, which stopped just short of fisticuffs. This was not a street fight between rowdies but the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting called to bring about a consensus over a government resolution on sealings and expediting the implementation of Master Plan 2021.

The meeting, however, turned into a nasty fight as chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s loyalists had a war of words with the anti-CM camp. The blame game began as soon as the MLAs gathered in the committee room at Delhi Vidhan Sabha.

Dikshit started the discussion by spelling out what Delhi government had done so far to save the traders. Ghonda MLA Bheesham Sharma, a vocal dissident, openly attacked Dikshit and blamed her for the civic mess and confusion amongst traders. He reportedly said that Congress is almost finished in Delhi because of Dikshit. At this, Dikshit loyalists, including Rajesh Lilothia, Ashok Ahuja and Ramakant Goswami, tried to defend the chief minister.

The loyalists tried to defend the CM and asked Bheesham to sit down. This angered Delhi Pradesh Congress chief Ram Babu Sharma, who was sharing the dais with Dikshit. According to sources present at the meeting, Sharma asked Bheesham to continue and dared people to stop him.

Dikshit on her part tried to pacify Ram Babu Sharma, but was snubbed rudely. This further aggravated the situation and Goswami and Bheesham Sharma started abusing each other. The latter reportedly threatened Goswami and dared him to settle scores outside the confines of a room.

MLA Subhash Chopra tried to pacify both the groups and appealed to Dikshit and Ram Babu Sharma to not let differences dilute the main issue. It was only then that the debate on government resolution started.

Dissidents wanted the resolution to be introduced only after their amendments. MLA Vijay Lochav demanded that the conduct of judges, who have been passing directives on sealings and demolitions, should be discussed in the House. According to sources close to Dikshit, the chief minister declined and said that this would not help at all.

Bheesham Sharma openly criticised Dikshit and said that the CM does not take the party along in the deliberations being done to save the traders. Several concerned MLAs pointed out that if nothing is done before Wednesday, the bandh could turn violent. Subhash Chopra blamed the labour minister for keeping quiet. He said that the government should have announced some employment guarantee for those rendered unemployed by sealing and demolition operations.

Sources said that some MLAs demanded that the chief minister should go to court and "save the city". Giving former BJP chief minister Sahib Singh Verma’s example, the MLAs said that Dikshit could also do this. However, the chief minister refused to be drawn into the discussion.

The official version given after the meeting, however, painted a very rosy picture. The media brief was that CLP unanimously passed a resolution strongly condemning the attempt of BJP to politicise the sensitive issue of sealing and demolition.

Shariat courts no threat to judiciary’

NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 2: In A controversial move, the UPA government has defended the Darul Qaza or Shariat courts in the Supreme Court, saying their existence posed no challenge to the country’s judicial system. In an affidavit filed in the court, <b>the Centre even defended the “jaziya tax” imposed by Aurangazeb as a mere “special tax” which non-Muslims had to pay for failing to render military service. </b>

“The history of Darul-Qaza and legislative history of the enactments in the form of Regulations and Acts in respect of appointing Muslim Law officers to Court would show that the institution of Darul Qaza has never been and is not in derogation of or in conflict with the official/ recognised judicial system in India,” the Union of India said in the affidavit filed in response to a public interest litigation.

The PIL filed by Vishwa Lochan Madan had alleged that existence of Shariat courts and the fatwas issued by them were a threat to India’s judicial system. The Centre said that the courts were an alternative dispute redressal forum, which performed a “conciliatory role” without powers of “enforcement”.

The government linked the setting up of Shariat courts to the freedom guaranteed to minorities under Article 26 of the Constitution and denied they were a parallel judicial system. “Freedom guaranteed by Article 26 to every religious denomination or every section thereof to establish and maintain institutions for religious and charitable purposes and to manage its own affairs in the matter of religion would include the freedom to establish Darul-Qaza/ Nizam-ul-Qaza to settle disputes between two persons professing Islam, according to Shariat,” the affidavit said. Besides, their existence did not prevent Muslims from reporting to the courts of law, the Government said.

On fatwas, the affidavit said these judgments could best be considered the opinion of the Mufti who undergoes special training before his anointment. “The Mufti proceeds on facts submitted to him for his opinion. The Mufti has no power and therefore does not investigate the veracity of the facts submitted to him,” it said, adding the Mufti had no power either to impose his opinion either by way of fine or sending the person to jail.

The Government also sidestepped the controversy over the fatwas issued in the Imrana case, saying, “the case of Imrana has been found not to having been referred to any of the Dar-ul-Waza/ Nizam-e-Qaza”. The affidavit also dodged questions on the fatwas issued in the case of Jyotsna Ara of Assam and Asobi in Haryana, both of whom were raped by their fathers-in-law, saying the petitioner had not made the Muftis who had given the fatwa party to the petition. “In any event, few bad examples may lead to the abolition of a system which otherwise is found useful and effective,” the Centre submitted, requesting the court to reject the PIL.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>BJP corners Congress on illegal migrants in city </b>
Pioneer.com
Rajesh Kumar | New Delhi
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday cornered Congress on the floor of the House of the Delhi Assembly saying that while on the one hand, the Government has been showing complete compliance when it comes to High Court and Supreme Court's ruling on sealing, it has been dragging its feet over "identifying and deporting" Bangladeshi nationals from the Capital, a suggestion which too was given by the courts. Raising the issue in the Assembly, Delhi BJP Chief Dr Harshvardhan moved an adjournment motion in the House and demanded discussion on the sealing issue.

He asked if the UPA and Delhi Congress Governments honour the courts so much then <span style='color:red'>why does it not comply with orders in which the Supreme Court and the High Court have directed them to deport more than five lakh Bangladeshis staying illegally in the Capital.

"It may be mentioned that due to illegal infiltration of these people some big criminal incidents occurred every week. The Bangladeshis looters and murderers have created terror in Delhi. The Congress is not interested in driving them out of Delhi. On the other hand, the traders who have contributed to the development and prosperity of Delhi for the last 50 years are being ruined by the Congress on the pretext of court orders," </span> Harshvardhan said.

As soon as the House assembled, Harshvardhan stood up from his seat and demanded that this House should discuss the issue as sealing drive had resumed from Wednesday. The BJP's lone member Harshvardhan, who was not present in the House on Tuesday, tried to corner the Government that the same Government has failed to implement the court orders on Bangladeshi nationals illegally residing in Delhi and deport them, but this order is yet to be implemented.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Cong 'caught' luring Karimnagar  voters</b>
Omer Farooq

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti's  fears about Congress' machinations to
lure voters in Karimnagar Lok  Sabha constituency through money and other
gifts came 'true' on  Tuesday when a group of its activists foiled one such bid.
Led by its legislator T Harish Rao, a TRS team caught a van  ferrying 500
cricket kit bags each costing Rs 500 and Rs 500,000 in  cash. The vehicle was
intercepted at Sultanpur village in Timmapur  mandal while it was on its way to
Karimnagar.      <b>To their shock, the team also  discovered that the person at
the wheel was the driver of Right to  Information Commissioner K Sudhakar Rao. </b>

He told the TRS workers that he  had been sent by Rao.    The entire
operation was carried out  in the presence of electronic media that had been
alerted by the TRS in  advance.    Later angry party workers set the  cricket kits on
fire. Ironically both Sudhakar Rao and Harish Rao are  close relatives of TRS
president and Karimnagar by-election candidate K  Chandrasekhara Rao.    The
500 kits were purchased for Rs  1,47,500 from Sachdev Sports shop in Hyderabad.

<b>A receipt in the name of  the State Congress committee was recovered from the
van. </b>What is not clear  is how the TRS men had advance information about the
cricket kits and cash  and how they were able to zero in on that particular
van.    Tirumala Rao, one of the two persons  caught by TRS workers, revealed
that <b>he was bringing the material from  Gandhi Bhavan, the State Congress
headquarters.    </b>

Admitting that he was Sudhakar Rao's  driver, he said that he
was taking the consignment to the house of Markfed  Chairman P Prabhakar in
Karimnagar. He also revealed that the <b>RTI  commissioner had given him Rs 500,000 cash with an instruction to hand it  over to one Anil in Sircilla</b>.    Sudhakar Rao was quick to deny any  involvement in the episode and said it was a
deliberate attempt by the TRS  in which his driver was also used. He also denied
any links with the  Congress. However, a criminal case was registered against him
and his  driver arrested.

The entire episode has created a  flutter in political circle and all the major opposition parties have  demanded action against the RTI Commissioner.    TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has  alleged that the Congress was resorting to massive irregularities  including misuse of power and money to win the by-poll and this was just  the tip of the ice-berg. The CPI and the CPI(M) have also made similar  allegations.

<b>Ramdev's talk on Gandhi sparks row </b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Jabalpur/Indore: Self-styled yoga guru Baba Ramdev has courted the wrath of followers of the father of the nation, Mahamta Gandhi, for his comment that Gandhi's non-violence alone did not achieve freedom for the country.

<b>Ramdev, hugely popular for propagating the healing of diseases through yoga, said the country should not ignore the contributions of revolutionaries in its fight against British colonial rule.</b>

He said this in Jabalpur, where he is imparting yoga training to Army personnel.

"See, I am a follower of penance, sacrifice, non-violence and truth. But I am also a follower of revolutionaries. I live a simple life. I don't do what everyone else does. But I believe that the freedom of our country is because of the sacrifice of martyrs," Baba Ramdev said.

"If somebody says that the country achieved independence without arms, without bloodshed, I believe that is an insult to the country's martyrs," he added.

<b>Gandhi's followers, mainly activists of the Congress Party, were quick to retort</b>.

<b>They charged Ramdev with insulting the Father of the Nation. Youth workers of the Congress burnt posters of Ramdev and shouted slogans against him</b>.

Angry protestors urged Baba Ramdev to concentrate on Yoga only.

"We believe what he (Ramdev) said is not correct. He should just concentrate on yoga only," said Devendre Singh Yadav, a leader of the Youth Congress in Indore.
<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Truth hurts, Shame to Congress.
Why he should concentreate on Yoga? who are they to tell what people should? Like we can't tell them ,only lick Queen's foot not burn effigy or buses.

Swami Ramdev indeed IS concentrating on Yoga. Fearlessly speaking the truth is a core part of Yoga.

Congress should stick to boot-licking Sonia Gandhi and stop protesting about all other Gandhis.

<b>*Why is the UPA Government bent on forcing sops on an unwilling, even protesting, minority community?</b>
*
Even as the Supreme Court considers whether subsidising the Haj pilgrimage is constitutional in a secular state, the UPA Government has gone ahead and raised the same subsidy. Against the budgetary provision of Rs 279 crore for
the current year, the actual outgo now stands at Rs 385 crore.

*The Haj subsidy controversy has helped underline the ugly reality that the so-called secular parties are a sham.
* How else do you explain a 'secular' state financing the religious activities of one group, out of the taxes collected from the entire country? Hindus go to Kailash-Mansarovar in Tibet, Sikhs to Nankana Sahib in Pakistan and Christians to erusalem and pay for the pilgrimage from their pockets.

Mr Anand Sharma, Minister of State for External Affairs, told Parliament in August that during 2005, 529 pilgrims had gone to Kailash-Mansarovar and the Union Government had spent Rs 17.2 lakh in making the arrangements connected with the *yatra*. The number of people who had gone to Pakistan to pay obeisance at various gurudwaras and temples stood at 8,179. The number of Haj pilgrims during this year was 83,279 and it cost the exchequer Rs 179.66crore.

*The "secularists" are misleading the country by claiming that the Government expenditure on festivals like the Kumbh Mela is a subsidy to the majority community. But the state expenditure on law and order is not a subsidy to individuals. Is it not the obligation of the state to maintain law and order? Whether it is the deployment of police for Ajmer Sharif or
the Kumbh Mela, arrangements for sanitation, drinking water and other public conveniences are all part of the state's obligation.*

Besides providing subsidy running into crores of rupees for Haj, the Union Government forces Air India not only to have special flights from international airports in the country, but it also compels it to pick them from other airports across the country's geographical spread, thus raising the cost to the national carrier. Muslim leaders themselves say that instead of keeping the Haj airlift as a monopoly of Air India, the community would benefit more if it is opened to competition between various airlines.

Why, then, does the Government force a monopoly and then subsidise the sole airline for the costs incurred? *Obviously, the intention is not only to facilitate the pilgrimage but also to project to the community that it is the Congress-led Government's grace that helps its pilgrimage possible. It is interesting that no Muslim country, not even Pakis-tan, subsidises Haj expenditure. *

*Now that the apex court has asked the Government to clarify whether such subsidy violates the basic feature of a secular constitution, the vexed issue is in the public domain.
* Even within the Muslim community, voices are rising about the way the money is spent. Recently, the Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed was accused by Muslims of States other than Kerala that he pressurises the Haj committee to extend disproportionate privileges to Muslims from his home State in selecting the beneficiaries. Similar accusations have been made against the Congress Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir.

It is obvious that the 'secular' parties are not true to their proclaimed creed of secularism. But why are Indian Muslims, who are otherwise very touchy on issues relating to their faith such as the triple talaq, Uniform Civil Code, family planning, etc, conveniently accepting the subsidy against the tenets of the Shari'ah?

*As per Islamic injunctions, the Haj obligation has to be met by a Muslim out of his own resources.
*There have indeed been occasional protests from within the community on this count as well. A recent report in a newspaper quoted several Muslim authorities who stated that they considered such subsidy "un-Islamic" . The report quoted Maulana Mehamood Madani, MP, general secretary of Jamiat-e-Ulema- e-Hind, "It is against the Shari'ah to be under any kind of obligation while undertaking Haj." The report also quotes SQR Ilyas, a senior member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board as characterising the subsidy as "a sop to gain political mileage". Even Haj Committee CEO Mohammad Owaisi says that the subsidy is "un-Islamic" .

At least a section of the community is saying that the Haj subsidy is a political sop against its own religious injunctions. The question, therefore, is why is the current political dispensation persisting with this practice and even extending it? The answer is clear.
*"Secularists" would go to any extent to exploit public funds to purchase vote-banks in the name of benefiting the Muslim minority.
*
The practice of Haj subsidy and other sops for Muslims have been going on for decades. However, none of these facilities seems to have really benefited Muslims. These sops mislead them and are in no way related to the basic problem of a mindset that refuses to reform the community along the lines of a modern secular state. Such gestures only lull them into the belief that whatever practices they are undertaking now, like preferring * madarsa*s to regular schools, keeping women under wraps and denying them the right to be employed, etc., are the right things to do. Such Government policies embolden the ghetto mentality of Muslims and the community is pushed further into backwardness.

In a secular state, each community must manage its own religious affairs - with the Government only facilitating public order. That applies as much to temples as to mosques and pilgrimages of any community. Instead of following a truly secular path on such matters, several pretentiously secular parties have only sought to interfere with religious funds and foundations to gain political mileage.

<b>*The DMK Government, for example, has forced temples in Tamil Nadu to follow the party's philosophy, denying the right of followers to conduct rituals in the language of their tradition, appointing priests with scant regard for the sensitivities of devotees and imposing the DMK's anti-Hindu, anti-Sanskrit policies on the protesting public.</b>
*
*The DMK claims to be a 'rationalist' party that does not believe in God and the sanatan dharma. But surely in a 'secular' state, the fact that it has gained control of the Government machinery through an election does not legitimise its trampling over the sensitivities of millions of Hindus. Similarly, the Devaswom Boards in Kerala are now getting packed with Communists who are atheists. Thanks to sham secularism, the State is funding overseas pilgrimages of Muslims and denying Hindus the right to administer their shrines as per their traditions. Can any civil society live with this glaring contradiction?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>SC admits petition on removal of Savarkar`s plaque at jail  </b>

New Delhi, Dec 01: The Supreme Court today decided to examine a petition seeking information about the facts and circumstances leading to the removal of a plaque containing verses of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar from Cellular Jail in Port Blair by a trust set up by the state-owned oil major India Oil Corporation.

<b>The petitioner sought the information under the Right To Information Act. </b>

<b>The plaque with Savarkar's quotes was removed in December 2004 by the Indian Oil Foundation (IOF), a trust which was headed by the then Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer. </b>

A bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice C K Thakker admitted the petition and issued notices to the Centre, IOC and IOF directing them to respond within four weeks.

"If this act (RTI) is not held applicable then nothing survives but if it is held applicable then it would be whether the information sought is suppliable or not in the public interest," the bench observed.

<b>The petition filed by a Mumbai-based advocate Sanjiv Gajanan Punalekar submitted that the Centre refused to offer any explanation or to own up responsibility for the controversy on the sole ground that the decision to remove a plaque of Savarkar's quotes in Cellular Jail at Port Blair was taken by the Petroleum Minister in his capacity as chairman of IOF.</b>

He said that the oil PSU had taken a stand that it was not liable to comply with obligations to supply informations to the citizens as even though the fundas were provided by and controlled by the minister in his ex-officio capacity. \

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->PC gets a piece of Sonia’s mind

The other day UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi gave a piece of her mind to the ministers handling key ministries including finance. She firmly directed that future trading in commodities must be stopped. It was established, on the basis of the data made available to her, that the prices of essential commodities are on the rise because of future trading in them.

<b>While some essential items have already been taken off the list, a decision in principle has been taken that the future commodities market should be closed completely soon after the current Parliament session gets over.</b> Union finance minister P. Chidambaram was also told to focus on bringing down the prices of essential commodities and also frame a “populist Budget-2007.”

The GDP growth rate may be 9.2% for the quarter ending September, but inflation is also rearing its head by touching a record high of 5.45%. <b>The Manmohan-Chidambaram-Montek team has to bring down the prices before the elections in five states next March-April. The worrisome aspect is that the growth in the agricultural sector slowed down to 1.7% again from 4% in the same quarter compared to last year.</b>

Wont shutting futures market cause economic chaos?

What kind of education and or training does Sonia Gandhi have to evaluate financial data pertaining to futures/commodity markets?

If there's some mischief going on in these markets why are culprits not booked but the entire markets being shut down? I'm missing something.

Whenever Congress is in power, hoarding is always a problem. I am still unable to understand how they do it. Onion scam in late 90s in North India and food shortages in 60s, 70s and 80.
There is so called ban on export of grains/pulses from India. But guys/gals did you notice price of grains/pulses are back to old rates in Indian grocery stores in US. Export ban is till March, 2007
I checked wholesale dealer, and according to them supply is restored through Dubai channel, So now Pawan, other ministers and dalals are minting money by exporting through private agency.

<b>Minorities must have first claim on resources: PM</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->New Delhi, Dec 09: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said plans for minorities, particularly Muslims, must have the "first claim" on resources so that benefits of development reach them equitably.

New Delhi, Dec 09: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday stirred a hornet's nest by his remarks that plans for minorities, Muslims in particular, must have the first claim on resources, with the BJP, its chief ministers and the RSS condemning it as having communal overtones.

"Such a statement does not behove a senior leader like the Prime Minister. It is unfortunate," Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, generally known for his anti-Muslim rhetoric, told reporters after the conclusion of the NDC meeting.

He insisted that every citizen, irrespective of his caste and creed should have equal right over the resources of the country.

Such sentiments were echoed by Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh chief ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Raman Singh respectively. While Chouhan said that the Prime Minister's statement was "not only inappropriate but is dangerous also," Singh said that economic backwardness should be the sole criteria.

The RSS was more acerbic in the attack on the Prime Minister remarking that "this is precisely the language used by Mohammad Ali Jinnah before the partition."

"It is unfortunate our leaders have not learnt lessons from the tragic partition. They are pursuing the same politics of religion for electoral benefits," RSS leader Ram Madhav said.

"This is very unfortunate, appalling for a Prime Minister to say so," BJP chief Rajnath Singh said separately.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda of Congress, however, justified the Prime Minister's remarks saying it should be seen in the context that majoirty of Muslims are poor.

We should prepare for worse in India in next 3 years. And another partition within 10 years. I won't be surprised by commie take over, because they are fully funded by Indian/Hindus enemies worldwide. New state within India will get recognition within minutes. Coming election will be very violent.

Congress is working full time to divide Hindus among caste and pitching Hindus with minorities.

‘<b>Shariat courts no threat to judiciary’ </b>Ananthakrishnan G Posted online: Friday, November 03, 2006 at 0000 hrs Print EmailPIL: They’re a dispute redressal forum without enforcement powers: Govt to SC
NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 2:<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'> In A controversial move, the UPA government has defended the Darul Qaza or Shariat courts in the Supreme Court, saying their existence posed no challenge to the country’s judicial system. In an affidavit filed in the court, the Centre even defended the “jaziya tax” imposed by Aurangazeb as a mere “special tax” which non-Muslims had to pay for failing to render military service. </span>

Congress under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh is performing the role which Muslim League performed before partition of India. If congress succeeds in this political game then India will see another partition. The first one was the gift of Nehru with blessings of Mahatma Gandhi. This one will be the gift of Sonia Gandhi with active following of Manmohan Singh.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><span style='color:red'>Gandhi to sack security minister</span>
Bruce Loudon, South Asia correspondent

INDIA'S growing battle with terrorism was poised last night to hit the country's political leadership, with reports that <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>Sonia Gandhi, the Italian-born widow who effectively runs the ruling coalition</span>, is planning to fire the key cabinet minister in charge of national security.

...
...
This follows a debacle last weekend when she was forced to abandon a meeting of bombing victims because of the hostility of local people in Malegaon, near Mumbai, after a series of blasts outside a mosque killed more than 30 people and injured 300.

<span style='color:red'>Ms Gandhi, widow of assassinated prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and the most influential figure in the country's political life</span>, is apparently irked by the continuing failure of security authorities to get to grips with terrorist bombings, including the series of devastating attacks on the Mumbai train system in July.

<span style='color:red'>She is said to be seeking a "more effective" minister</span> to run the Home Ministry, which is responsible for dealing with all internal security.

Mr Patil, it seems, has not done anything wrong. But security authorities have simply not achieved the breakthroughs in dealing with terrorism that are wanted, and the usually well-informed Asian Age newspaper indicated yesterday that the minister would pay the price for this failure.

The Congress leadership, under the direction of Ms Gandhi, is now in search of a successor to Mr Patil, with veteran Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee the hot tip - if he does not go to the Foreign Ministry, which is also due to get a new minister.

All, it seems, depends on the formidable Ms Gandhi, and yesterday's moves on the security front again demonstrated the extraordinary influence she wields.

<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>The Prime Minister she installed in office two years ago </span> when she decided she did not want the job, Manmohan Singh, is abroad in Brazil, on his way to the Non-Aligned Summit in Havana.

Notionally, in India's Westminster-style of government, it would be Dr Singh, as <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>Prime Minister, who would decide on ministerial portfolios. But it is Ms Gandhi, as president of Congress, who wields the whip hand. </span>

<span style='color:red'>Mr Mukherjee, who has loyally served</span> in a series of Congress-led governments and was one of the ministers most loyal to Indira Gandhi when she was prime minister, <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>is effectively the deputy prime minister and one of the most powerful influences on Ms Gandhi. </span>

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->According to the UPA Government <b>under the stranglehold of Sonia Gandhi, governance of India is a 'tamasha'. Indian constitution is a disposable condom. Institutions like Parliament, Judiciary and the Executive are show-piece facades to be erected and dismantled at will according to the whim and caprice of one woman from time to time. The latest farce (tamasha) staged by the Congress is the politically cosmetic celebration which they had in New Delhi to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the liberation of Bangla Desh on December 16, 1971. </b>When the anti-national and degenerate Congress Party wanted to have the function in the premises of the DEFENCE SERVICES OFFICERS' INSTITUTE (DSOI) in Dhoula Kuan in New Delhi, RETIRED OFFICERS' FORUM made it clear to the three service chiefs that it was an affront to their dignity to permit a political party to host a political function in the public premises owned collectively by the people of India as a whole. The Congress Party was forced to have the function in one of the premises on Akbar Road. The invitation was issued from the AICC (All India Congress Committee), only to the 71 War veterans. Many distinguished retired officers had not been invited. Approximately 1000 officers from the three services and widows turned up for the function. Many of them wondered how they were tracked down and how their latest phone Numbers and addresses were available to the organisers. A small photo exhibition of about 40 photos was on display along with numerous huge banners of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. Soon at the appointed hour, Mrs Sonia Gandhi breezed in, wished everyone by going round and seven minutes later, breezed out. Many senior retired Officers of the three Services strongly felt that Sonia Gandhi ought to have received them if she was the hostess. During this time, a military band played. Later there was a playing of recorded speeches by Mrs Indira Gandhi. The whole show was over within one hour. Many officers had come with shoulders back, gleaming medals on civilian clothes and a spark of hope in their eyes. Many senior Officers felt that it was a wasted morning!!

Under UPA's non-governance, India has become a barren wasteland of the Hollow Men - condemned to a cruel state of desolation. Enlightened and patriotic people are exhausted and are hopelessly gazing upon an equally exhausted India. 'Shape without form, shade without colour, paralyzed force, gesture without emotion, men, figures stuffed with straw, gather on stony soil in a valley of dying stars. They are empty without vision; they learn together without thought; their voices whisper meaninglessly, through a land of stone images and death's dream kingdom. Here, a man cannot die even decently. He approaches his shabby end by way of a nursery rhyme'.Here we go round the prickly pear'. It is indeed an ironic litany of complete frustration'.

This is the way India ends

This is the way India ends

This is the way India ends

Not with a bang but a whimper!
