Famous Patriotic Songs And Sayings

<!--QuoteBegin-Husky+Jun 6 2008, 07:44 PM-->QUOTE(Husky @ Jun 6 2008, 07:44 PM)<!--QuoteEBegin-->Is that the new breed of Indian christian that is trying to appropriate Carnatic music (while also trying to put their foot in the door of the Carnatic music audience) or is this person for real.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Don't know which breed you'd be referring to. If you mean the one that sings CHRISTIAN songs, or songs on JESUS or the BIBLE, or any other Christian THEMES, in Carnatic or Bhajan music style, or 'vedic' chanting style, as part of the strategy of hinduisation of christianity, this wouldn't be it. The Ashtakam, Harivaraasanam, is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa and nowhere is there a mention of YESU or BIBLE in its wording, even when sung by this allegedly christian person.

The same song rendered by the singer Jesudas (a christian-born) is played everyday at the Sabrimala temple shrine at the time of closing. So for those allergic to christians singing songs dedicated to hindu gods/goddesses, best to stay away from visiting Sabrimala.

One must learn to distinguish between Hindu songs, dedicated to hindu gods and goddeses, rendered by Hindus or non-Hindus, from those christian-themes rendered by missionaries/evagelists in Hindu music styles. Most playback singers in India have been from all religious backgrounds, and who have sung songs pertaining to all religions. Other example, other than christian Jesudas singing numerous hindu bhajans and stotras, would be the famous playback singer of yesteryears, Mohammed Rafi, with his rendering of bhajans in movies, including the well-known Sukh Ke Sab Saathi from the movie Gopi.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Actually, I don't really care to know, as I don't trust them at all anymore.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

You are entitled to your choice. As for me, I don't care about any singer's religious background, nationality, color, weight, height, and educational qualifications, if he/she sings songs with themes close to my heart. If the themes are not something I care about or like, then I simply don't listen or endorse it. So even if a hindu playback singer sings songs on jesu/mary in a movie. I don't listen to it or even watch the movie or recommend it to anyone.

In this particular case, the singer has rendered the famous Ashtakam for Lord Ayyappa very nicely, even better than Jesudas (in some listeners' opinion, including mine), and thats all that matters to me for now. As for this singer's personal religious orientation (other than that his name is christian-sounding), and whether he sponsors churches & christian missions in his spare time, I don't know, and at this point I don't need to know because I'm not planning to hire him anytime soon.

For those that like the Ashtakam and its beautiful meaning, happy listening.
