i do not think so you can explain all that away with mere "perseqution made them excel". what is the reason that the ashkenazi are the best at all things that are celebral in nature??

When you are fighting with your back up to the wall, you have to give your best shot. When you are small in number AND FIGHTING FOR SURVIVAL your survival instincts work overtime. You put extra efforts to survive. You must have heard of ordinary people performing extraordinarily in dangerous situations which is probably beyond imagination in normal circumstanceS. SURVIVAL INSTINCTS is what drives them to excel. A comparison can be made with Parsis of India who have excelled in academics, business, legal field, every field they went..they are also in a tight corner...hence SURVIVAL INSTINCTS.
