The trouble erupted at about 3 pm, when news spread that an idol, at a place of worship on Seppings Road, had been defiled.
Around the same time, a few miscreants from Nehrupuram allegedly threw acid on some women, who were standing and talking near the Makkah Masjid junction on Thimmiah Road. Three KSRP policemen, who tried to intervene, suffered serious burns. Within minutes, people living in the Corporation Quarters came out and started throwing stones and petrol bombs on to the street.
In addition, Hindu Samavesha activists who were moving in procession towards their venue â Dr Ambedkar playground in Murphy Town â vented their ire by throwing stones on shops, business establishments and an educational institution along the route. The situation worsened when they passed through Tannery Road, Coles Park and Murphy Town areas. The narrow bylanes of the Thimmiaha Road, Seppings Road, Kamaraj Road bore the brunt, before the police finally managed to gather reinforcements.

Police who usually capture processions and other major events on camera failed to record the riots on Sunday. The footage would have come in handy to identify the miscreants as proved in the violent incidents that followed the death of thespian Rajkumar in April last.

In hundreds of comments posted by IBNlive readers, who were shaken and shattered to see their loved city swept by communal hatred and mob violence in a matter of just two days, they squarely blame the politicians for turning the city into a communal flashpoint.
One reader, Merwin, best sums up the frustration among the average Bangaloreans, when he/she says: "IT capital, Greater Bangalore, cosmopolitan. These words sound so out of place when we witness the incidents that are happening today."
<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>Most Bangaloreans seem to be unanimous in their conclusion that there were political hands in turning the peaceful city into a hot spot of communal turmoil. And the Congress party and its leaders seem to bear most of the brunt of the readers' attack.</span>
<b>"Opportunistic Congress politicians like Dharam Singh, Jaffer Sharief and S Bangarappa â who dances his way from one party to another like a modern-day Nataraja â should be personally held responsible for what has happened. These politicians should be held liable for the death and destruction in Bangalore in the last few days,"</b> says T Varadaraj.
Another reader sees it as "another tactic" of politicians "to confuse people and get votes." "The Congress saga never ends. I guess the party is feeling the pinch after losing power in Bangalore and is back to its roots of confusing and dividing people to garner support," he says.

In his reaction to the sudden communal upheaval in the Tech City, Rajiv says: "All riots are instigated and manufactured for political profit. Till now, no top leader has been held to account for these. It is time this stops. The Congress and the Hindutva mobs are directly responsible for the anti-Sikh and the Gujarat riots respectively. The only difference between these leaders and the likes of Jinnah is the scale of their mischief. The day fear of law prevails on these scoundrels, riots would stop occurring. For this, we the people have to take lead. Because today the victim may be some obscure person, but tomorrow it is as well likely to be you," he argues.
Giri says people who go ahead and indulge in riots at someone's instigation "should ask their leaders to join them in the riots. A leader shouldn't just talk in a meeting, he should be out there conducting riots too," he argues.
<b>"It is disgusting to read that former chief minister attended such a rally, only to appease minorities,"</b> says Rajesh Karkera. "The ruling coalition should be blamed for giving opportunities to anti-social elements to succeed. Those who are responsible for this riot should be hanged," he demands.
Sharath also speaks in the same tune. "Politicians are the people who are playing this crappy game. They should be put behind bars."
Most readers also agree on the point that there was no need to organise such a rally in the first place. GVK, an I<b>BNlive reader, alleges that the communal tension was an attempt by Congress leader Jaffer Sharief "to show to the party high command that he is still alive."</b>

Majid says some Muslims are easily exploited by some elements. "But to say that Muslims were the one who started it is unfair. The dirty politicians who had assembled in MG Raod area on Friday against US policies, included both Hindu and Muslim politicians.<b> Yes, the Muslim processionists had no business removing posters of a Hindu group. But we should rather arrest the Hindu and Muslim politicians who played this dirty vote bank politics," </b>he says.
Nathan says police are to be blamed in the first place. "They gave permission for such a rally with political motive. They don't even protect Innocent people. They are fit for nothing. Only thing these police know is to stop two-wheelers and four-wheelers and ask for bribes. Not to act pro-actively in such situations," he points out.
Rakesh Zinni says, "<b>the courts should slap multi-million rupee fines on these political leaders and put them out of business once and for all." "I bet there is a politician behind this. While the hand of a senior Congress politician is suspected for triggering the violence, which engulfed parts of Bangalore since Friday, the ruling BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) Government has to take the blame for failing to nip the trouble in the bud.
It all started with a rally organised by senior Congress leader and former Union Minister CK Jaffer Sharief to condemn the hanging of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.
<b>It was evident that Sharief had organised the rally with a hidden agenda and it was not a spontaneous reaction to the hanging of the Iraqi leader, some three weeks ago.</b>
It was apparent that Sharief, who has been marginalised in the Congress after his defeat in the last Lok Sabha poll, wanted to resurrect himself and create a communal divide in his Bangalore North Lok Sabha constituency.
<b>The police had enough indication of the impending violence as some of the processionists were carrying weapons. However, the police had failed to deploy adequate personnel to tackle the crowds.<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'> Taking advantage of the lax security, a section of the processionists went on the rampage and targeted the homes and properties of the majority community who live in the lanes and by-lanes of the Muslim-dominated areas of Shivajinagar, Commercial Street, Bharati Nagar and Frazer Town.</b> </span>
Surprisingly, both Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and Home Minister MP Prakash failed to visit the riot-hit areas when the eastern parts of the city were burning.
Sunday's violence was anticipated as the RSS had organised conventions at three places to mark the birth centenary of their leader Madhawa Sadashiva Golwalkar. One of the venues of the convention was near Ulsoor Lake, part of the area affected by Friday's violence.
However, the police had yet again failed to anticipate trouble when Shoba Yatras were taken out as part of the convention.
<b>The violence broke out on Sunday during the Shoba Yatra following rumours that miscreants had damaged an idol at a place of worship.

"Hindu revenge" started with Bhagwan Krishna telling Arjun to fight for his kingdom which was taken away from him by treachery. Even that fight could have been stopped if the Kauravas had behaved in a civilized fashion after the Pandavas had returned (I hope you know who Kaurava-Pandav are, they must be somewhere in the Hindu Doctrine you keep talking about. Genuine question, because I know what the Gita is, I know what the Puranas are, what the Upanishads are, the Ramayana, Mahabharata and the Vedas are, but this Hindu Doctrine I have not read yet..sorry for my ignorance onlee. I know that there are a lot of Hindu Doctors all over the world, and are said to be the best in the medical community. Do these Hindu Doctors get to read the Hindu Doctrine free of charge?).

Laxity on part of the district administration and the police led to the violence as the officials allegedly failed to deploy adequate force taking note of past incidents.
<b>The trouble started at around 8.40 am when members of one of the sects carrying flags joined the main procession at Musahibganj locality. As they moved ahead raising slogans, people from the other sect objected to carrying of the flags, which led to a verbal dual. The groups later entered into fisticuffs and engaged in brickbatting. A few even opened fired.</b>
A free-for-all situation ensued for the next half-an-hour as there was no adequate force to tame the rioters. Station officer (SO) Thakurganj along with a few of his men initially tried to handle the situation but they had to beat a hasty retreat after the rioters pelted stones on them.
