Gujarat Riots - 2

Actually on his own website, the director's statement has these opening lines:

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Post-911, we live in a world where politics of hate and intolerance has gained mainstream acceptance, even grabbed centrestage. The right-wing seems to be tightening its stranglehold across Europe and USA, a nationalism being fuelled by the anti-immigrant/anti-Moslem rhetoric. The ‘War on Terror’ dominated the electoral discourse in the US presidential elections, with both candidates promising to hunt ‘em and kill ‘em better than the other. In a world where it has become legitimate to use fictitious intelligence to justify the bombing of innocents in Iraq, where it has become acceptable to launch precision bombs and rockets against non-“embedded” journalists, where shameless politicians divide up oil wells and farm out reconstruction contracts for their $ 36 million bonuses, where babies are killed and mutilated as acceptable “collateral damage”, we face a challenge greater than ever before.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Nothing about India but only about US. Then with beard and all on an expired visa he is filming a building for over thirty minutes. Other than the asshole part I dont think NYPD deviated from procedure at all in this suspicious instance.

He should have checked his camera inside Police station.

<b>One arrested in connection with Godhra carnage</b>
Wednesday, June 1 2005 22:14 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Ahmedabad: One person was arrested today (Jun 1, 2005) from Godhra town of Panchmahals district for his alleged role in the train carnage case where 59 kar sevaks were killed inside the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express train on February 27, 2002.

The arrested person was identified as Raees Meetha and he was nabbed from Godhra town itself after getting specific information about his whereabouts, Godhra police said.

Spotlight: Godhra-Chilling stories of the victims
Meetha was initially arrested on theft charges by a team of the anti-dacoity police and was later handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) as a warrant was issued against him, police added.

However, officials did not yet specify Meetha's alleged role in the train carnage incident or conspiracy.

Gujarat police has so far arrested 106 of the 131 persons accused in this case of which some are out on bail while some of the alleged 'core group' that hatched the conspiracy are still missing.

Officials, however, claim to have in their custody the alleged prime conspirator of the case, a Godhra-based cleric Maulvi Hussain Umarji.

<b>Riot lawsuit against Hindu groups</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Riot lawsuit against Hindu groups

The Gujarat riots of 2002 left at least 1,000 people dead
The families of Muslims killed in an attack during the 2002 Gujarat riots have filed lawsuits against Hindu nationalist organisations.
They are seeking almost 70 million rupees ($1.6m) in damages.

Among those groups named in the lawsuit is the Bharatiya Janata Party, which governs Gujarat.

More than 1,000 people, mostly Muslim, were killed in the Gujarat violence, although independent groups have placed the figure closer to 2,000.

uptepian,

Dal me kucch kala hai....

Rakesh Sharma petition that went up last week got 700+ signatures in 3 days <!--emo&Rolleyes--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='rolleyes.gif' /><!--endemo--> - creeps were smart enough to go to a place where they didn't get any comments from irate web surfers.

They are back to petitiononline after their fiasco during Modi visa episode when they had to pull down the petition. And now they have some 30 odd signatures in past couple days!

Things don't add up. Either they are fools are way too smart.

You have a good point Viren. Professional-communalists have so much clout in the print and broadcast media that internet petitions should not have any value. Yoginder Sikand the author of the petition could as well have thrown that gibbersh he calls a petition to Indian Express and TOI and lo, it would have got published unedited.

For the RGF's report, Indian dailies have maintained an astounding silence. This petition is the first voice of dissent I have seen. So obviously the numbers put forth by RGF are so strong that even editors sympathetic to professional-communalists have a hard time denying it.

Same thing with Rakesh sharma's brush with NYPD. In the past Bollywooders Aamir Khan and Kamal Hasan got wide coverage for their brush with authorities in the US. Even a little known actress from Kerala that had a brush with airlines got wide publicity. None of Rakesh Sharma's misadventures got reported. Not even on the page 3 columns.

This leads me to believe, 700 signatures for Rakesh Sharma are all spurious. I will be surprised if they even have the guts to present it to any competent authority.

Well I am a living proof. You want more proof goto any indian living room and talk about the shenenigans of VHP trishul yatra or the fits thrown by people like Praveen Togadia.

I am a hindu nationalist, but not a killer like what happened in gujrat and being a hindu i have all the right to put the protest of taking the hindu movement in a wrong direction.

I believe that RSS should allow BJP to function independently just working as a watch dog and putting the pressure of a lobbyist, with active research and policy directions(not directives). I cannot comment on the recent advani incident. It looks good to put advani back on track after he was trying strange things. But RSS should in no way put the impression that it remote controls BJP. Get off the back of BJP and allow it to rise. Otherwise we will never see the heights being reached by the hindu movement what the congress movement reached in its haydays.

If BJP/hindu movement has to reach all the corners of india from north to south, from east to west it has to have a much broader appeal that it carries right now. It has to be based on a positive agenda of development and dedication and service and most importantly peace and communal and religious harmony.

Setalvad forced me to name innocents: Zaheera

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Deposing before the Nanavati-Shah inquiry commission, Zaheera, who appeared without her advocate Atul Mistry, accused Setalvad of forcing her to name several innocent persons in the Bakery case and even forcefully taking her to Mumbai from Vadodara.

Hesitant and requesting the Commission members to repeat their questions on several occasions, Zaheera stated she was not aware that an affidavit had been submitted before the commission on her behalf.

‘‘Kept in confinment, I was asked to name innocent persons as accused in the case,’’ she said adding she remembered signing several legal documents and even the police complaint without reading them.

<b>‘‘The signature is mine but I was coaxed and taken to the Vadodara Circuit House by three persons at the behest of Setalvad, who made me sign court documents,</b>’’ said Zaheera, who is currently living in Vadodara and has started a tailoring unit, while her brother is a scrap dealer.

In her affidavit before the Commission dated May 20, 2002, Zaheera had described the entire attack by violent crowd on the Bakery and had also named seven of the accused persons, who were part of the rioters who attacked their premises on March 1, 2002.

She told the Commission she had filed three affidavits before the Supreme Court and that in the first one, dated December 31, 2004, she had admitted filing an affidavit before the Commission.

<b>Answering to senior advocate Mukul Sinha’s questions, Zaheera said there were three persons - Mohammed Vora, Munna Malik and Arif mallik - who were keeping an eye on her and her family and were following instructions of Setalvad. </b>She said she did not remember specific dates like the period when she had met them and they had taken her to Mumbai forcefully.

Zaheera denied filing any police complaint against them for forcibly taking her to Mumbai after the Fast Track court in Vadodara had acquitted them in the Bakery carnage case.

When asked regarding the identity of the seven accused persons, named in the affidavit as well as the police statement recorded under her name, Zaheera said her statement was recorded but she was unsure what was written by the police.

Zaheera was also questioned about her links with the Vadodara-based NGO ‘Jan Adhikar Samiti’. She said Tushar Vyas of the Samiti has been helping her financially to fight her case in the Supreme Court after she escaped from Mumbai.

"It has to be based on a positive agenda of development and dedication and service and most importantly peace and communal and religious harmony."

Only Hindus are always banging on abt communal harmony and crap, if people are horrified by what happened in Gujarat then Hindus shud also condemn all the retaliation against Muslims during partition, which means that today East Punjab wud be full of Muslims, imagine that scenario.

As for BJP, if they can't do anything pro hindu when in power because of coalition limitation they shud atleast take care not to do anti hindu things like increasing hajj subsidy.

Gujrat Leads the Way :
Gujarat tops growth chart
SUBODH GHILDIYAL

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ THURSDAY, AUGUST 04, 2005 10:34:02 PM ]

NEW DELHI: Bibek Debroy - who kicked up a shindy with his top rating for Gujarat in the growth charts in his report for the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation - now has company. The Planning Commission has put its seal of approval on Debroy’s controversial rating.

Gujarat remains ahead of all states in terms of growth in per capita income in 2003-2004 over 2001-2002. Also, it ranks a close second after Madhya Pradesh in growth in per capita income of states, calculated for 2003-2004 over 2002-2003.

Bihar ranks last on both counts. The figures are an eye-opener in terms of where the growth rate lies across the length and breadth of the country. Interestingly, the Centre’s figures also show that Gujarat has attracted the maximum investment in the last five years followed by Andhra Pradesh.

According to the Planning Commission, Gujarat has registered a 10.3% of compound annual growth rate, a measure of annual per cent increase in per capita income, between 2000-01 and 2003-04. Manipur follows Gujarat with a compound annual growth rate of 8.5%. However, the gulf between the first two and the rest of the country is yawning. West Bengal ranks third with 5.7% followed by Orissa with 4.9%.

Well I dont believe in revenge. I believe in deterrance. Like nuclear deterrance. I believe that if you want to nuke somebody you dont want the nuclear fallout to come on your land. Revenge is short term, deterrance is long term.

I strongly believe that we should fight islamo-maxist combine by our hindu values and hindu systems. I donot say that non-violence in what is required, neither do i say that dont retaliate.

But events like gujrat where an indian government abuses its power to kill indian citizens sounds unhindu to me, bhagwan Ram would never have done anything like what Mr modi has done(he had to do his rajdharma, bhagwan ram left his wife on a simple hearsay), and Mr modi went to kill his own praja. We are not brutal barbarian. Again I believe in deterrance. An environment where these fanatic muslims can be controlled and shown that gone are the days when they can think that one muslim is equivalent to 10 hindus.

For that effective deterrance strategy without state-sponsored rioting has to be developed to catch the balls of these islamic facists.

State sponsored riots do two thing.

1. It radicalises hindus. Which is very bad in long run. As i said when you nuke your adversary you do it in such a way that there is no nuclear fall out for you.

2. It removes crucial moderate support. I am of the believe that BJP lost 2004 due to the pusillanimity of not dealing the aftermath of godhra properly. It should have seized the oppurtunity and taken the issue into political overdrive. It would have brought huge gains to the hindu movement. We were pusillanimous or should i say did not have a longer perspective in mind. These commies and gandhi family would have been drowned and strict anti-terror laws could have been implemented to create an environment of deterrance to get the balls of these islamic fanatics. Further in a more human way of thinking, no individual be it a hindu or a muslim or anybody can be held responsible for his communities actions.

Instead we lost 2004. One think i will again stress . Hindu movement cannot be united on a religious platform. Anybody who is a serious reader of hinduism can make this conclusion.

Hinduism is such a vast religion with so many thoughts it is not possible to bring the so called 80% hindus in one political platform. Impossible. It will be a historical miracle. Further there are so many differing views that if one political party will try to do it, it in the process will get subdivided in varying factions. So let us fight the values that these islamists want to propogate like religious obscurantism, woman inequality, seperatism, fanaticism. And a hindu movement based on these basic values will give a more homogeneous nature to this struggle.

In this perspective only i believe that RSS not being a political organisation and mostly working for the interests of hindu society should actually just work as a watchdog and allow BJP to experiment so take the political cause which is different from cultural and religious cause. The political cause can transcend all religious lines but represent values politically which comes from indian traditions, local systems and local economic senses. Otherwise we will constrict the reach of BJP and hence become an accomplice in further perpetrating this nehru-gandhi dynasty in india.

I really dread that day when that [edited] Rahul Gandhi will become Prime Minister of India. We have to stop that thing from happening. That fool cannot become the Prime Minister of India, simple.

Modi did what ? Please make fact based statements.. Has he been indicted ? Please visit Guj riots and Godhra threads.. Also keep one thing in mind - no matter who is in power, if a mob of 2000 roasts 58 women and children alive there will be a huuge retaliation - count on it - its a given - Modi or no Modi - nobody can stop it. Let the islamist goondas try it again when somebody else is in power - the retaliation will be the same, if not worse.

And whats with this 2004 was lost because of Guj nonsense ?? After Godhra Modi had won a landslide so 2 years later Delhi was lost ? Does it even make any sense ?
