Ahmedabad: One person was arrested today (Jun 1, 2005) from Godhra town of Panchmahals district for his alleged role in the train carnage case where 59 kar sevaks were killed inside the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express train on February 27, 2002.
The arrested person was identified as Raees Meetha and he was nabbed from Godhra town itself after getting specific information about his whereabouts, Godhra police said.

Meetha was initially arrested on theft charges by a team of the anti-dacoity police and was later handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) as a warrant was issued against him, police added.
However, officials did not yet specify Meetha's alleged role in the train carnage incident or conspiracy.
Gujarat police has so far arrested 106 of the 131 persons accused in this case of which some are out on bail while some of the alleged 'core group' that hatched the conspiracy are still missing.
Officials, however, claim to have in their custody the alleged prime conspirator of the case, a Godhra-based cleric Maulvi Hussain Umarji.
The Gujarat riots of 2002 left at least 1,000 people dead
The families of Muslims killed in an attack during the 2002 Gujarat riots have filed lawsuits against Hindu nationalist organisations.
They are seeking almost 70 million rupees ($1.6m) in damages.
Among those groups named in the lawsuit is the Bharatiya Janata Party, which governs Gujarat.
More than 1,000 people, mostly Muslim, were killed in the Gujarat violence, although independent groups have placed the figure closer to 2,000.

You have a good point Viren. Professional-communalists have so much clout in the print and broadcast media that internet petitions should not have any value. Yoginder Sikand the author of the petition could as well have thrown that gibbersh he calls a petition to Indian Express and TOI and lo, it would have got published unedited.
For the RGF's report, Indian dailies have maintained an astounding silence. This petition is the first voice of dissent I have seen. So obviously the numbers put forth by RGF are so strong that even editors sympathetic to professional-communalists have a hard time denying it.
Same thing with Rakesh sharma's brush with NYPD. In the past Bollywooders Aamir Khan and Kamal Hasan got wide coverage for their brush with authorities in the US. Even a little known actress from Kerala that had a brush with airlines got wide publicity. None of Rakesh Sharma's misadventures got reported. Not even on the page 3 columns.
This leads me to believe, 700 signatures for Rakesh Sharma are all spurious. I will be surprised if they even have the guts to present it to any competent authority.

I cannot comment on the recent advani incident. It looks good to put advani back on track after he was trying strange things. But RSS should in no way put the impression that it remote controls BJP. NEW DELHI: Bibek Debroy - who kicked up a shindy with his top rating for Gujarat in the growth charts in his report for the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation - now has company. The Planning Commission has put its seal of approval on Debroyâs controversial rating.
Gujarat remains ahead of all states in terms of growth in per capita income in 2003-2004 over 2001-2002. Also, it ranks a close second after Madhya Pradesh in growth in per capita income of states, calculated for 2003-2004 over 2002-2003.
Bihar ranks last on both counts. The figures are an eye-opener in terms of where the growth rate lies across the length and breadth of the country. Interestingly, the Centreâs figures also show that Gujarat has attracted the maximum investment in the last five years followed by Andhra Pradesh.
According to the Planning Commission, Gujarat has registered a 10.3% of compound annual growth rate, a measure of annual per cent increase in per capita income, between 2000-01 and 2003-04. Manipur follows Gujarat with a compound annual growth rate of 8.5%. However, the gulf between the first two and the rest of the country is yawning. West Bengal ranks third with 5.7% followed by Orissa with 4.9%.
Well I dont believe in revenge. I believe in deterrance. Like nuclear deterrance. I believe that if you want to nuke somebody you dont want the nuclear fallout to come on your land. Revenge is short term, deterrance is long term.

State sponsored riots do two thing.

2. It removes crucial moderate support. I am of the believe that BJP lost 2004 due to the pusillanimity of not dealing the aftermath of godhra properly. It should have seized the oppurtunity and taken the issue into political overdrive. It would have brought huge gains to the hindu movement. We were pusillanimous or should i say did not have a longer perspective in mind. These commies and gandhi family would have been drowned and strict anti-terror laws could have been implemented to create an environment of deterrance to get the balls of these islamic fanatics. Further in a more human way of thinking, no individual be it a hindu or a muslim or anybody can be held responsible for his communities actions.
Instead we lost 2004. One think i will again stress . Hindu movement cannot be united on a religious platform. Anybody who is a serious reader of hinduism can make this conclusion.
Hinduism is such a vast religion with so many thoughts it is not possible to bring the so called 80% hindus in one political platform. Impossible. It will be a historical miracle. Further there are so many differing views that if one political party will try to do it, it in the process will get subdivided in varying factions. So let us fight the values that these islamists want to propogate like religious obscurantism, woman inequality, seperatism, fanaticism. And a hindu movement based on these basic values will give a more homogeneous nature to this struggle.
In this perspective only i believe that RSS not being a political organisation and mostly working for the interests of hindu society should actually just work as a watchdog and allow BJP to experiment so take the political cause which is different from cultural and religious cause. The political cause can transcend all religious lines but represent values politically which comes from indian traditions, local systems and local economic senses. Otherwise we will constrict the reach of BJP and hence become an accomplice in further perpetrating this nehru-gandhi dynasty in india.
