More than anything else, the US is using Hindus, India in general and Gujarat in particular as scapegoats for propping up its plummetting popularity (and in fact positive hatred) among <i>Ummah</i> countries.
There is an apt Tamil saying which translates like this: Somebody picked up for free (i.e. stole) a coconut from a shop in the bazaar and offered it to a Ganesha temple on the way.
