Rutgers students on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Who is it for?
This program is intended to bring together college professors, teachers (K-12), librarians, curriculum writers, special program developers and textbook publishers, as well as students, parents/community members from US and Canada who are interested in assuring correct portrayal of Indian heritage in schools
and colleges.
What this program is all about?
This program is intended to actively engage all interested parties in
contributing to the enhancement of resources for students and educators K-12 through college. (It is not a platform to submit papers for scholarly publications.)

Indian Students Association, Zurich (INSAZ) and Indian Association,
Zurich (IAZ) organise Swaramantra
Rashmi Srinivasan and Rohitha Eswer, renowned artists from
Raasavrunda School of Dance, Mysore, India would be performing
Creative Indian Dance at Theatersaal, Irchel on 11th September 2004.
The repertoire starts with Kautvam, a traditional item poetic in
nature. This item is followed by Dashavatara, Jayadeva's Gitagovinda
dated back to 12th Century A.D.
Swaramantra is science in dance comprising of the technical aspects
of Indian dance, from ancient texts Natyashastra of the 2nd Century
B.C. and Abhinayadarpana of the 5th Century A.D. Rashmi Srinivsan
then proceeds with Bhavayami Gopala Balam, a divine composition of
saint Annamacharya on Bala Gopala, the child Krishna. Krishna is the
supreme soul.
Harismarane, a composition of saint Purandaradasa consists of the
mythical episodes selected from Puranas. Lasya Tandava is a dance
number with delicate and vigorous aspects of dance with complex
rhythmic patterns. Radha Krishna Pranamora is a unique composition in
praise of Radha and Krishna. The concert concludes with Brindavan,
depicting happy times of Krishna and Radha dancing to the glory of
ultimate happiness during the Indian seasons!
Thus, Rashmi Srinivasan and Rohitha Eswer elaborate the technical
aspects of dance enumerated in the ancient Indian dance literature
dating back to 2nd Century AD and 5th Century AD which are interwoven
and choreographed into dance numbers to the score of creative Indian
music.

International Foundation For Vedic Science(IFFVS) is honoured to have published book 'Origin and History of Mathematics' by V.Lakshmikantham and
J. Vasundhara Devi.

Lakshmikanthan (a high profile Mathematician from Andra Pradesh of India and has been head of the Dept. of Mathematics in various universities of USA since 1965 who also has been founder of many mathematical Depts in various universities of USA) in the present study challenges world negating view of India's contribution to the world of mathematics and indentifies and acknowledges the Indian element in modern math,science and technology.This excellent study will help the unbiased scholars to know where the ideas of western scientists, mathematicians and technocrats have been derived from Indian sources.The scholars will be forced to think whether the various branches of mathematics are from Greek,Babylon,Arab or India.This study will also help dispel the 'orientalist' idea superimposed by Macaulay and his successors upon Indians since 1835, resulting in an inferior self-image on the part of many modern Indians and causing them to look up to the west for answers.

CHANDIGARH: Respected as rakshaks of the entire country, many of them did
not sport a rakhi on Raksha Bandhan, fearing it would damage the secular
fabric of the Indian Army.
In the wake of instructions issued by the Army early this year regarding the
need to maintain a strict dress code and a secular image, it was assumed
that the colourful threads of rakhi did not go well with the olive green of
the military uniform.
An Army major did not wear his rakhi till the time he changed into his
civvies. "I didnt want to take a chance. The directive issued by the army
headquarters instructs us not to sport sacred threads," he said.
Reaffirming its secular credentials, the army had earlier ordered its
personnel not to |sport religious symbols such as bracelets, birthstone
rings, vermilion streaks or sacred threads. Caution was the watchword among
soldiers, though one can hardly insert a particular religious ideology into
the system by tying a rakhi around the wrist. But the code of discipline is
the cornerstone of army tradition that has to be defended anyhow, some might
argue.
A colonel said while there were no specific instructions to avoid the
festival, he felt it was expected of army personnel to be of strong secular
convictions.
"In any case, saluting your superiors with a rakhi tied on your wrist is a
bit awkward," he said.
At some units, the choice of wearing a rakhi was left to the troops.
However, it was verified during the morning muster on Tuesday that the
rakhis were gone.
Western Command hospital commandant Maj Gen S K Kaul told The Times of India
that the staff had been instructed not to wear rakhis after the festival was
over.
A few Army officers wore rakhis "because theirs werent gaudy, but plain
looking threads that kept up the spirit of the festival without defying the
code."
A captain said he put on his rakhi in the morning to mark the festival but
removed it before leaving for office.

MIDDLETOWN, CONNETICUT, September 27, 2004: Instruments, laptops and music textbooks were blessed on Sunday at the Saraswati Puja Ceremony in the World Music Hall of Wesleyan University. The Hindu ceremony was held as part of the Navaratri Festival, which was held at the campus from Sept. 22 through Sept. 26. The festival is a Hindu festival that honors the goddess Durga. During the festival In India people greet family and friends, enjoy music and dance concerts. And on the ninth day of the festival, Saraswati, the goddess of learning and wisdom, is worshipped. T. Viswanathan, who taught at the university since 1975 and died in 2002, developed the festival. Viswanathan was remembered during the Saraswati Puja Ceremony which celebrates the victory of good over evil and marks the beginning of new endeavors. Dr. A. V. Srinivasan, from the Satyanarayana Temple in Middletown, led the ceremony. He has been coming to the university for the past 10 years to conduct it. "We've been associated with music program since the 1960s," Srinivasan said.
Obstacles were removed by praying to the God, Mahaganapati. It is a common Hindu belief that a prayer must be offered to the God for His blessing so that the rest of the mission proceeds without incident. After the prayer was given, the cleansing was started with water that was poured into a metallic vessel. Srinivasan and Joseph Getter, who was also leading the ceremony, symbolically washed their hands with the water. Saraswati was then prayed to and given offerings. Sweet drink, water, incense a clean piece of cloth, flower petals, change and fruits and vegetables were offered. Just before the ceremony's end, the participants stood up and turned to their right three times to absolve their sins. The instruments, textbooks and laptops were laid out on the floor next to the altar. The gold and green altar to which they prayed had icons of Ganesh, Durga and Saraswati.
"Offerings are going to be made to Their image on this occasion," Kamla Srinivasan, wife of A.V. Srinivasan, said as she prepared the altar Getter, who is working on his doctorate in Indian music, said after the ceremony that he enjoys the Saraswati Puja Ceremony because he believes he might get a blessing from the Deities and he finds it interesting. He wants to learn more about it, he said. The university also invites professional musicians from India to play and speak with the students during the Navaratri Festival. Indian food is also served during the festival. "To hear a concert by a leading artist is an incredible experience," Getter said. Balasubrahmaniyan, who has been teaching South Indian Karnatak Music at the university for one year, said he's been enjoying himself. "It gives me so much pleasure to be here," Balasubrahmaniyan said.
