BANGALORE: In a swift response to a Times of India report , Hindustan Aeronautics on Thursday decided to give Mohd Muzakkir Sharieff a job and adopt him to let him pursue his future education.
Moved by the boy's capabilities in building an aircraft, but his inability to pursue education for want of funds, HAL chairman N R Mohanty broke the good news to Muzakkir's family members by paying a surprise visit to his house in Munireddypalya in Bangalore.
Mohanty, accompanied by Sanjeev Sahi, director (personnel), HAL, took a close look at Muzakkir's aircraft â Passion for Success (PFS-1) â and later had a one-on-one with Muzakkir.

"I wanted to know what the boy's ideas are. After seeing his work, knowledge of aeronautics, passion for higher studies and need for a job, I knew I met a human being who was different. I didn't wan't to lose him and, as a special case, decided to offer an appropriate position in HAL. This is HAL's Id gift to Muzakkir," Mohanty said.
Mohanty said HAL would train the boy. "We will fund his education and help him fulfil his dreams. His choice is aeronautics and now he will have to decide where he would pursue his studies," Mohanty added.
Sanjeev Sahi, who had a walk-and-talk session with Muzakkir at his house, briefed the boy about his career options.
"I was amazed by his spark. But if he has to fan it into a flame, he has to pursue education, even while working with us."
Muzakkir's story touched President A P J Abdul Kalam, who was reminded of his days in Bangalore as a scientist, and also aviation gurus across the country.
Muzakkir himself â besieged by the media in the last few days â was pleasantly surprised and at a loss for words.
"I don't know. I can't believe this. I am accepting the offer. May be I can now build another plane with better spares. I am happy that I can study now and help my mother. I thank every one," he said.
Expressing gratitude to The Times of India readers across the country, who chipped in to propel Muzakkir's passion, his father Mohd. Sameeullah, a retired Urdu teacher, said: "His tireless efforts are bearing fruit now. I thank Allah and all The Times of India readers who came to his rescue."
As Muzakkir sets to take off on pursuing his ambition, we thank our readers for the support.

Head of the Department of Organic Chemistry at Nagpurâs G.H. Raisoni College of Engineering, Zadgaonkar recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for manufacturing and marketing petroleum products generated from waste plastic. She has been given Rs 5.9 million for the pilot project.

We will have to see how effective this petroleum business is in reality. The catalytic pyrolysis of long chain compounds has been reported for a long time now. There could be issues with scale up and distillation and especially how polyhalogenated hydrocarbons are handled.

I agree to a extent. Call center and backoffice operations are business set up by India and Indians (maybe to a extent with outside colaboration). But it's a good decent business that is employing a good number of Indians and for other Indians to accumulate wealth.
I would like to see India being a backoffice to the entire world rather than a few western nations. That's the best +ve psy ops we have can have.
Mind you we should also have India and Indians creating products and companies such as Microsoft, Intel, Dell etc. Building products and having service industries need not necessarily depenedent on each other. We should and we can excel in both.
I for one personally know of Indians in India who are buying business in US to expand marketshare and/or get a foot into US markets. I am personally involved in such transactions. Trade and business goes both ways.
My comment on Dell pulling the plug on operations in India was more towards the nature of the -ve psy-ops against India. I had posted couple months ago Dell himself making a comment favoring outsourcing to Ireland. The foxnews report I had mentioned lists a <b>xtian minister</b> who complains of 'Indian accent' (Dell is based in the bible belt). Having managed people and business myself I can state that one just doesn't shut down a business because of complaints from a individual here or there. Managment usually takes note of the problems and takes measure to correct these problems. Shutting business is a last resort.
There's more to this Dell story than meets the eyes.

Bangalore, Dec 6: In what is being seen as a major breakthrough in Indiaâs space programme, scientists have announced the development of a rocket engine that uses super-cooled liquid fuel, thereby allowing the country to launch high-altitude satellites besides becoming capable of sending man to moon and building an intercontinental missile.

With this, India becomes the sixth nation in the world after United States, Russia, France, China and Japan to have the capability to build cryogenic engines. Such engines are primarily used to launch satellites to high altitudes so that they match earthâs rotation speed and remain in what is called geo-stationary orbit.
The long duration test conducted on Friday marks the conclusion of the qualification of the cryogenic engine, which has been tested for a cumulative duration of 6,000 seconds so far in three hardware.
The test involved the firing of the Cryogenic main Engine with 7.1 tonne thrust for 1000 seconds, simultaneously with two 200 kg thrust Cryogenic Steering Engines, all mounted on a single block as used in the actual GSLV flight stage developing 7.5 tonne total thrust.
The steering engines are used to control the flight path of GSLV during the third stage thrusting. The turbo-pump fed, regeneratively cooled engine for the cryogenic stage is required to burn for a duration of 720 seconds in actual flight.
A number of specially established facilities like Assembly and Integration Facility, Test stand, state of the art Control Centre have been employed for the successful assembly and testing of engines.
The development of the cryogenic stage system is also progressing well at LPSC in Thiruvananthapuram. This cryogenic stage, using a combination of two tonne liquid hydrogen and 11 tonne liquid oxygen, is intended to replace the Russian supplied cryogenic stage in GSLV.

Kabul: Two Indian road engineers were kidnapped in Afghanistan on the same highway where a truck was abducted by Taliban last month, Afghan and Indian officials said.
The engineers disappeared at about 6:00 pm yesterday near Shajoy in Zabul province while traveling along the country's main highway between the Kabul and Kandahar, Helalludin, an aide to Afghan interior minister Ali Ahmad Jalali, said.
"Unfortunately, without telling the security authorities, these two people took a car between two villages and have been captured or attacked by Taliban," Helalludin told the Associated Press. "Police are trying to find them."
He said authorities had no contact with the kidnappers and had received no demands in return for the Indian's freedom.
"But we know what kind of people they are. The police are sure" they are Taliban, he said.
An Indian embassy official said the two were traveling with an Afghan driver and another Afghan employee when they were stopped.
"They roughed up the driver and he was able to return to the company. They let the other Afghan go as well. They just took the Indians," the official said.

HYDERABAD: Fly to London in less than two hours. It will not be wishful thinking or remain in the realm of imagination in a few years.
The Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) here is aiming just that as it has begun work on the `biggest aeronautical challenge' for the country.
Giving flight to the imagination, all the IITs in the country are among the 12 academic institutions working with the DRDL to develop a hypersonic aircraft.
When the hypersonic aircraft becomes a reality, one can travel to London, perhaps attend a meeting, and travel right back in just a few hours.
At present, a New Delhi-London flight takes eight hours - one way.
In the ambitious programme to achieve what the United States and Russia too are competing to, the IISc, Bangalore, the Osmania University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and Hyderabad Central University in the city are also working with the DRDL.
``We have the biggest brains in aeronautical engineering contributing to the mission that we want to achieve. We have the technology and the will,'' DRDL Director Prahlada told The Times of Indiahere on Monday.

A couple of years ago, the <b>US unsuccessfully tested a hypersonic flight. It was to have made another trial last year and also this year but so far it has not happened. </b> France and Japan too are also said to be simultaneously working on the hypersonic flight. At the DRDL, a core team of 20 employees have been specifically drafted on the job. The `Hypersonic Propulsion Division' has as many as 100 people from different academic institutions assisting in developing the Supersonic Combustion Ramjet Engine (Scramjet) necessary for the hypersonic aircraft.

The government on Wednesday said it has asked the Central Board of Secondary Education to exempt students of class eight and their juniors from taking examinations.
The board has allowed this exemption till class three.
<b> "I am against this system of examination... I have asked the CBSE to waive examinations for children till class eight. It has waived these for children up to class three but I think at least till class five there should be no examination for children," Union Human Resources Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi said in the Rajya Sabha. </b> (<i>oh plz....keep this rule for politicians...they need it) </i>
Questioning the education system which labels children as 'pass' or 'fail' on the basis of whether they clear exams or not, Joshi said India should be known as a nation of successful people and tags such as 'fail' should be removed from the vocabulary.
He was replying to a debate on the National Charter for Children, which envisages provision of free and compulsory education to all children between six and 14 years, banning all forms of child labour and protecting the girl child.
Warning the nation against keeping its children uneducated, under-developed or undernourished, the minister said such nations would not survive in the long run.
