Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 17: Kerala Police have arrested the office secretary of the Indian Union Muslim League unit in Moovatupuzha for dishonouring the National Flag by tying it below the party flag. The incident created uproar in Moovatupuzha on Independence Day. The tricolour was found fluttering below the green party flag of the IUML in front of the local party office. The flag was untied late in the evening when RSS workers staged angry protests.

After Moovatupuzha MP and former union minister, Mr P. C. Thomas, demanded stringent action against the IUML leaders, the Ernakulam district collector asked the local revenue divisional officer to submit a report on the incident. The RDO reportedly informed the collector that the National Flag was dishonoured at the IUML party office. Police sources said that Hakeem, office secretary of the IUML in Moovatupuzha, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the incident.
