These days that means bhajan and cymbal banging types.
Even in Shivaji's time Ramdas was one of the few sants telling people to fight for dharma while rest of so called sants were singing otherwordly things.
In my experience the "devout" Hindus are often the most moronic types, insisting that all religions are the same etc.
