The run up to the Presidential election has brought out many interesting features. It has brought the forefront the undercurrents within the ranks of various political parties. It has also brought into the open the deep division within the ranks of the NDA, and to a lesser extent within the ranks of the UPA.
The condition of the BJP led NDA is such that a sizable section of the constituents have announced their open support to the Congress and UPA candidate Shri Pranab Mukherjee. The JDU and Shiv Sena both have announced their support for the NDA candidate. A section of the BJP may also vote for him through the secret ballot. The NDA has been so divided from within that it has even failed to put up a strong candidate against the UPA nominee. As a last resort it has decided to support Shri P.A. Sangma, who has the support of two regional parties, namely the AIDMK and the BJP. It will only be a symbolic fight as Shri Sangma will not be able to put up any stiff fight against the UPA nominee.
The other significant development that has come to light is that the SP and BSP both have come forward to support the UPA candidate. On the other hand, the Tirnomool Congress, a constituent of the UPA has so far refused to support the UPA candidate officially. It is also observed that cracks have developed within the Left Front. While the CPM has decided to support the UPA candidate the CPI has decided not to do so. Thus we find that all the major political formations are divided house.
We also find that the Bihar Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar has already opposed Shri Narendra Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate of the NDA.There may be many other leaders within the NDA who may not want to project Shri Modi as a future Prime Minister.
Under these circumstances, it is unlikely that the NDA will be able to throw up any serious challenge to the NDA during the 2014 General Elections. This does not mean that the NDA will have a walk over. There are several elements within the NDA apart from the TMC of Bengal that may try to have a better bargain and may change sides on the eve of the elections

ravish Ji : This does not make since. Could you please explain!
Cheers
Nareshji,
It is a typographical error, It should read the NDA may not be able to give a serious challange to the UPA.There are certain elements within the NDA that may change side on the eve of the general elections. in fact, the need of the hour is that bth NDA and UPA should have some new and young leaders , who can induct fresh energy in both the parties. Unfortunately, no one is in sight at the moment.

As common people see it, there isnot much difference in the style of functioning of both NDA and UPA. No third alternative is in sight, in fact most of the leaders of the various state level parties are3 so much engaged in lical issues that they are unable to think on national level. However, at the end of the day we may see some surprise, one can never predict the moves and counter moves of our politicians.

Many thanks indeed.

As per the latest figures, if Mamta Bannerjee and Jagan Reddy join hands and support Sangma, Mukherjee will retire hurt and sulking in his home state rather than be President of India. Shiv Sena voted against BJP nominee Shekhawat even in last election; so, there is nothing new here. What if JD(U) makes a u-turn at last minute and votes for Sangma! I think you are counting the chickens before being laid.
Shri Sangma stands no chance, even those who have sponsored him know very well. The Presidential elections this time will see large scale cross voting in favour of the UPA candidate. The BJP MLAs of Kartnata are expected to lead the event. One should always remember that Shri Pranab Mukherjee has large number of personal friends and well wishers in all political parties. The contest is only symbolic.
I don't think Pranab may survive even the controversy of forged letter of resignation from the post of chairman of office of profit of ?Indian Statistical Institute. Forget about being President, he may have to withdraw his nomination and bring huge embarrassment to Congress. Sagma's legal team is looking at that forged document as signature on that don't seem to be of Pranab.
Shall revert after the election results are declared.

Pranab has committed a fraud. I doubt, Election Commission cAN LET HIM EVEN CONTEST ELECTIONS AS THE PROCESS OF CLEARING PAPERS FOR CONTEST IS NOT YET OVER. mONDAY IS THE D-DAY WHEN SANGMA TEAM MEETS ELECTION COMMISSION WITH ALL THE PAPER PROOFS.

It is disgraceful to see fraud creeping into the selection process of the highest office in the country. It would be interesting to see the results. Would anyone be surprised? I doubt it as we have become so accustomed and therefore immune to acts of fraud being committed in the country.
No serious effort has been made by the NDA leadership or even by the other sponsors of Shri Sangma, to press the charges against Shri Pranab Mukherjee. The so called complaints regarding irregularity committed by him were made only for the sake of formality.Shri Mukherjee has friends in all political parties and as such his getting elected is a foregone conclusion.
I don't think you are following it. Agnihoti, the filing offr for nomination has said that he can't take any action on their complaint of forged signature but has said that in same breath that they can approach Supreme Court if Pranab is elected but his swearing in can be withheld by SC if it agrees with their contention. And that's what, most probably, they will be doing as Subramanian Swamy ans others are already working for that eventuality and petition.
Even otherwise, Mamta has not yet agreed.
And the National GIRGIT award goes to Mamta.

Despite serious reservations in the minds of several forum members, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has assumed charge as the 13th President of India. The BJP leaders were present in strenght at the installation ceremony. The number of votes polled by Shri Mukherjee indicates that a sizable section of opposition members including some from the BJP voted for him, in sharp contrast to the party's decison in public.
Sorry Capt Kumar.
