Quote:RALEGAN SIDDHI: Fresh from their triumph at Ramlila Maidan, Anna Hazare and his team declared on Sunday that they will hold "referendums" in constituencies of MPs who are part of the standing committee on the Jan Lokpal bill, asking people whether they should vote for their representatives who oppose the bill. Hazare threatened another stir if their demands are not met.

"The referendum is meant to gauge people's views on those who oppose the Bill. In next six months, Anna and his team will tour the states where assembly elections are due, to create awareness about stand taken by political parties on the bill," said Arvind Kejriwal.

Anna Hazare said he will tour the country and answer those opposed to the Jan Lokpal bill and not give up until the government passes the bill. "If required, I will again start an agitation again, if not from Jantar Mantar or Ramlila Maidan, then from some other place in Delhi," he said.

There are some "over smart" people in the government, Hazare said. "When I was in Delhi I saw five to six people in the government acting as if they were the PM. There was complete confusion and Sonia Gandhi was also not there", he said.

Arvind Kejriwal, fighting off charges of corruption, said, "By October 15, an audit report of expenses incurred by India Against Corruption (IAC) during April 1 to September 30 will be put up on IAC website. All members of the core team will declare their assets. A three-member committee of retired HC/SC judges will be formed to look into complaints about alleged corruption in the expenses." Team member Prashant Bhushan said allegations were made about Anna and his team members. "We will send them defamation notices and seek apologies," he said.

"I appeal to people to form teams and visit colleges, offices and societies to spread awareness about the bill. We are forming sub-committees that will meet party leaders and create awareness about Jan Lokpal bill", she said.

Commenting on the recent police firing on farmers agitating against land acquisition in Maval, Anna said grabbing farmers' land and firing on them were not signs of a democracy.

"That is why I believe gram sabha's approval for any land acquisition should be made mandatory," he said.

Quote:Having captured the public mood against corruption and stirred up Parliament over the Lokpal issue, social activist Anna Hazare and his team have now set their sights on electoral reforms. Announced last Saturday, Anna's next campaign will focus on the right to recall elected representatives, the right to reject candidates contesting elections and demand MPs be subjected to annual performance audits. Election reforms with the aim of improving the quality of our legislators are long overdue. But here too an all-or-nothing attitude that typified the Jan Lokpal movement needs to be discouraged in favour of wider consultations with civil society.

Recalling elected representatives for perceived non-performance in the middle of their terms can be arbitrary and problematic, as it would motivate losing candidates and parties to keep making trouble for winning ones and thereby hamper governance. But the proposal to grant the voter the right to reject all candidates on the ballot is an excellent one. At present, the electorate has no say over the choice of nominees for elections. The latter are foisted on the people by political parties, leaving voters with the depressing task of electing the least unsuitable candidate. In fact, this lack of suitable choice discourages voters from exercising their franchise.

While Section 49(O) of current election rules does provide for an option where a voter may not vote for any of the candidates, the measure has no significant impact on the ground. By instructing voters to register their names separately if they wish to exercise the no-vote option, the provision goes against the fundamental principle of a secret ballot. It would be prudent to suitably amend the election rules and have the no-vote option enshrined in the voting machines themselves. In order to make the measure meaningful, if the number of no-votes polled exceeds that of all other candidates, the particular constituency should be obliged to conduct a fresh round of elections with a new set of nominees.

In strengthening the no-vote option political parties will be forced to put up suitable candidates. If the measure is combined with the proposal to debar candidates charged with serious crimes - an amendment to the Representation of the People Act towards this end is currently under consideration - it would provide a powerful tool to check criminalisation of politics and serve as an antidote to institutional corruption. Such reforms would go a long way towards making the political system vibrant, efficient and more in tune with what the people of India want. They deserve as much importance as a strengthened Lokpal.

The Americans infiltrated into countries that were much less inimical to them. In all these countries the yankees had incited the masses from within to first create chaos and to then plant an extremely pliable governments in those countries. They are doing this trick in India for quite some time now. Indira Gandhi clan had been and are the paid agents of CIA.

Their infiltrations were nipped in the bud in all the second world countries (Sino-Soviet block).

Actually in DUE COURSE India will have to confront the Americans (as it happened in Iran and later in Iraq) but strangely the Chinese will be our allies!

Savithri-ji,

Kudos for the wonderful posts. I look forward to learn more by them, however I am bit bewildered by the assertion that China-India would be on the same side in due course. Could you please write more on it as it appears most unlikely given China's increasingly aggressive naval, land and other expansions in the subcontinent. Further, they also have outwardly adopted communism (outwardly because certain guru-s maintain that all along the history, China has not been what it seemed to the external world) which separates them from our system of governance. Although I think they are closer to us in terms of tradition (but not really sure, I score terribly on that!)

Request you to please throw some light on it.

Dear Amatya Rakshas,

The first understanding of a nation's existence is in identifying its external enemy. (sometimes this identification can take two forms - immediate enemy and eternal enemy). Take for instance Japan during the second World War. Japan fought with China on the one hand and the U.S. on the other. In terms of who its main enemy who threatened Japan's existence is easy for you to identity. It was the United States. Why China was not its main enemy is not only because China was militarily weak then but that China and Japan has for centuries lived in relative peaceful co-existence.

This is the same principle that applies to China when you recon who would be the existential threat to China. Not India in the least.

Actually Kanchi Paramacharya taught this to Dr.Subramanian Swamy! Ask him if it was true or not.

By the way, the fall of Hindu empire to the Islamic hoards was because of non-apprehension and or failing to appreciate the dangers of external threat.

What is immediate but not lasting threat can be sorted out by give and take. As you know what is given and what is taken, by their very nature, will not last and they diminish and disappear in time. Eternal enmity on the other hand will end in destruction of one party or both in the end.

Countries like the U.S., Pakistan, Bangladesh and any number of countries usurped from others or drawn up on the sand by the British and other westerners in Arabia, Asia, Africa and Latin America will disappear in time but would inflict their damage while they last on nature and on people by the very fact they are not natural. Pl. try to look from this angle for this angle outlives all other angles. Then you will understand that countries like Quwait or Iraq or Libya and so on are not real countries but were drawn for the convenience of the asuric hoards of westerners and they will redraw them if necessary.

What is eternal is the fight between the asuric and dhaivic forces and strangely but truly only India has the ability to head the dhaivic forces. Actually in the ultimate fight not only China, but Japan and the entire Asia will be on the side of India!

Quote:NEW DELHI: Team Anna leader Kiran Bedi on Friday criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for what she said was his "disappointing role" in the campaign against corruption.

Bedi's tweets change colour

Quote:AHMEDABAD: Call it the Twitter bashers' effect or change of mind. But in less than 24 hours, former tough cop Kiran Bedi's tweets on Gujarat and chief minister Narendra Modi's fast changed from criticism to praise.

Bedi who stated twitting on Modi's fast on Thursday initially said 'Has CM taken leave of absence from work?' she twitted minutes later stating that governors could reject leave to CM's going on fast.

Bedi in her tweets also questioned who will pay for the government work suffering due to chief minister going on fast. Bedi continued to tweet on Thursday night about Modi's fast and talked about him reaching out of families in need of healing hinting at victims of riots in Gujarat.

But her Tweets drew heavy criticism from her followers on the social networking website. Her tweets were replied with remarks like 'Team Anna doesn't have the copyright or intellectual property right on fasts'.

However, Bedi seemed to have softened her stand by Friday evening when she tweeted to praise the entrepreneurial skills of Gujaratis and talked about Gujarat's vibrancy. She also tweeted that she prays for a harmonious and prosperous Gujarat.

Kiran's tweet

September 15 | 9.46 pm

Has CM taken leave of absence from work? Who grants it? Three day fast by CM means govt coming to standstill. Who pays for this

September 15 | 10.07 pm

Governors cld reject leave to CMs (if leave grantors?)for 'fasts' and ask them to stay at work. Wld be a new era in democracy?"

September 15 | 11.38 pm

CM gujarat has a right to fast for communal harmony. But what if he first planned to reach out to families in need of healing?

September 16 | 3 pm

Kiran bedi also retweeted: "I am sure Mr Modi means well. I only suggest and request him to choose better options of inclusive-ness. Its time for that."

September 16 | 7.55 pm

I admire entrepreneurial skills of our gujarat-ees. My best frds are frm there. Am only wanting to c it even prosperous. And it shall b

September 16 | 8 pm

Pray for prosperous and harmonious Gujarat. It is vibrant & determined We see this in every Gujarati anywhere! The spirit is amazing

Yea, let Bedi search her soul to see if it was proper to receive foreign money to launch an agitation in this country however righteous it may be claimed. Did she ever think that the foreigner may have ulterior motives in funding for unrest in her country? Were they more interested in showing off that Anna Hazare could draw more crowd than Baba Ramdev? And many more questions on these lines..

Anna Hazare shows that he is a true Gandhian!

Accepts invite to Pakistan! (Perhaps his way of saying to Islamic Jihadists "Good job in continually blowing up Hindus!")

At the risk of sounding rude, uncouth, callous and anti-Hindu, I must assert that RSS many times indulges in mindless activism.
