This is a recurring theme in all heathen--christian encounters. Another example would be the felling of Thor's Oak (an ancient tree sacred to the Germanic pagan tribes) by St Boniface in his attempt to convert the heathens. ChristoIslamics have both used the same tactics to achieve their objectives. Boniface later used the wood from the felled tree to build a church in that region. (sounds familiar in the context of Hindu temple destruction and Mosque construction doesn't it?)
