<b>Indian techie named in $1bn Intel data theft</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Biswamohan Pani, a low-level engineer at Intel, made off with information valued by Intel at more than $1 billion, according to a Nov 5 indictment. Pani is due to appear in Boston federal court to be arraigned on Nov. 20.

Pani allegedly used the simplest of ruses to walk away with some of the chipmaker's most valuable and closely guarded information, and Intel later learned of the actions seemingly by chance.

The case could provide an object lesson for companies hoping to keep their data from walking out the door with departing staff.

"It's amazing how poorly most companies deal with these (information security) issues," says Nick Akerman, a New York lawyer who specialises in trade-secret cases and reviewed court filings in the Pani case.

The facts alleged in the indictment reveal "an overall lack of sophistication" in Intel's "ability to prevent this stuff from leaving their company. ...for a company that's got this much valuable information, this is terrible."

<b>2 Indians killed in US church shootout</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->The church shootout sent shockwaves across the country. It is believed that domestic problems between Reshma and her husband Saneesh Joseph (27) could be the reason behind the incident.

Joseph, who lives in Sacramento, California, is believed to have come to New Jersey driving his jeep. The police are looking for the jeep with California license plate number 5JHD200, in which he's believed to have escaped.

Declare Pakistan a terrorist state: Indian-Americans
<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->13 Dec 2008, 0946 hrs IST, IANS

UNITED NATIONS: <b>Braving chilly winter, agitated Indian-Americans gathered in front of the UN headquarters in mid-town Manhattan on Friday afternoon to demand the world body declare Pakistan a terrorist state.</b>

Raising anti-Pakistan slogans and displaying banners and placards denouncing the Mumbai terror outrage, Indian-Americans alleged that almost all the major terrorists attacks of the world in recent years have their bases in Pakistan.

As such it was high time the United Nations, the powerful Security Council in particular, take measure to declare it as a terrorist state.

The peaceful demonstration, which lasted for about two hours, was organized by Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP).

"Pakistan should immediately be declared as a terrorist State," said Rajesh Shukla of the OFBJP.

In a memorandum submitted to the Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, the OFBJP urged him to take necessary action to ensure that terrorists from Pakistan do not strike again. "We urge the Security Council to immediately pass a resolution in this regard," the memorandum said.

Meanwhile, the NRIs for Secular and Harmonious India on Friday welcomed the decision of Security Council to slap ban on Jamaat-ud-Dawa.

"Banning Jamat-ud-Dawa is a good beginning," the organization said. "Pakistan must destroy all the masterminds of these acts of historic infamy which took place on Indian soil on 26/11," it demanded.

GS if you want streaming free live cricket, google for sopcast before each game. Say "India New Zealand ODI 3 sopcast" etc. Then go try each link and one of them will work. You will have to download sopcast or TVU software, free at the googled link. Quality is a bit grainy (only at full screen), but not so grainy if u link it to the TV and sit back and watch.

<b>Obama official not a target in FBI raid: spokesperson</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The FBI raided the former office of Obama administration official Vivek Kundra in a corruption probe on Thursday but Kundra is not a target of the investigation, a spokeswoman for Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty said.

The FBI was searching the offices of the District of Columbia's chief technology officer, a position formerly held by Kundra, as it investigates employees for corruption there, spokeswoman Mafara Hobson said.

President Barack Obama named Kundra, 34, to be the federal government's chief information officer last week, responsible for overseeing the government's computer systems.

Yusuf Acar, who works in the District's technology office, and another man, <b>Sushil Bansal</b>, were arrested as part of the investigation, FBI spokeswoman Lindsay Godwin said, adding that the charges remain under seal
<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>2 arrested in FBI raid at Obama appointee's office</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Sushil Bansal, President and CEO of Advanced Integrated Technologies Corporation (AITC) was also arrested, sources tell WTOP.

In 2008, Bansal's firm received .Net Development Support and Peoplesoft Consulting Support contracts from the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Office totaling $350,000.

AITC has also received contracts from the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles. In 2008, Bansal received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Association of Indians in America, according to AITC's Web site.

Government records show Bansal is not a U.S. citizen and <b>holds an H-1B visa</b>, which is given to foreign workers in specialty occupations.

Last week, D.C. Chief Technology Officer Vivek Kundra resigned from his post to take a job in the Obama administration as the federal government's chief information officer.

<b>AITC has been working with the D.C. government since 2004. Once Kundra took over as D.C. Chief Technology Officer in March 2007, AITC's contracts doubled to more than $5 million in 2008.</b>

<b>Source: Obama official on leave after FBI raids</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Acar, a 40-year-old native of Turkey, had a $127,468-a-year position purchasing the city's computer equipment and <b>lining up contract workers for numerous city agencies, according to court documents</b>.

<b>Authorities say Acar and Bansal, along with others, defrauded the government through a variety of schemes, including billing the city for items that were never delivered and "ghost" contract employees who did not work. The scheme involved Acar approving falsified bills and splitting the money with vendors including Bansal, who submitted them, court documents alleged.</b>

Bansal, a native of India who turns 42 next week, is a former city employee and the founder and chief executive of Advanced Integrated Technologies Corp. The company has offices in Washington and India and did more than $13 million in business with the District of Columbia government in the past five years, according to court documents.

One contract involved providing computer support for the city's Department of Motor Vehicles. The company also was given a contract to upgrade the city's human resources computer records and sold virus detection software to the city.

<b>In August Bansal was named entrepreneur of the year by the Association of Indians in America</b>.

An FBI affidavit supporting the arrest warrants indicates that several other businesses and individuals were involved in the alleged schemes, but the other people are identified only by their initials.

The FBI worked with another employee in the city's technology office, who was in on the scheme and secretly recorded conversations with Acar and Bansal as part of the investigation.

...................
<b>Even as the raid was taking place, Kundra was giving a speech at FOSE, an annual government technology expo</b>. Kundra said part of his focus is to change the way the government buys technologies from vendors.

Religious License Plate Blocked, Hindu American Foundation Prevails in Suit

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->December 11, 2008 (Columbia, SC): In a ruling earlier today, a federal judge blocked South Carolina plans to issue a Christian themed license plate that was to feature the phrase,"I Believe," above a gold cross and stained-glass church window. The Hindu American Foundation (HAF), which had filed suit against the state of South Carolina in June along with an interfaith coalition of co-plaintiffs including local Christian and Jewish leaders as well as the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, applauded the court's ruling. Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a religious liberty watch dog group based in Washington, DC represented the coalition.

U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie issued the preliminary injunction forbidding the state to issue or manufacture the plates. She also ordered the state to remove information about the plates from the state website and inform people who had requested the plates that they would not be available. The written opinion is expected by early next week.

"The 'I Believe' license plate is a clear example of government favoritism toward one religion," said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Executive Director of Americans United. "The court drove home an important point: South Carolina officials have no business meddling in religious matters."

The South Carolina legislature mired itself in controversy earlier this year when it unanimously passed legislation to produce the license plate. South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, a Republican, personally pledged the required $4,000 to produce the plate--with the money to be reimbursed by the state at a later date.

State Rep. Bill Sandifer, when asked by a reporter whether he would support a Muslim license plate, replied, "Absolutely and positively no…. I would not because of my personal belief, and because I believe that wouldn't be the wish of the majority of the constituency in this house district." Other legislators had also openly admitted that they would not vote for similar plates for minority faiths.

"The 'I Believe' license plate sends the message that South Carolina has a favored religion,"said Ayesha Khan, Americans United Legal Director. "That's one message the state is not permitted to transmit." Khan argued the case here before Judge Currie.

<b>The Hindu American Foundation, established in 2003, first gained attention as a religious liberty advocacy group when it filed an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court against the display of the Ten Commandments on public land. The Foundation has worked with Americans United on several other legal efforts as well.</b>

<b>"The U.S. Constitution prevailed in South Carolina, and the great pluralistic values promoted by our nation's founding fathers were upheld today," added Suhag Shukla, HAF's Managing Director and Legal Counsel. "Government simply cannot privilege one faith over others, and so this ruling is a victory for Hindus, Muslims, Jews and Christians alike."</b>

The Hindu American Foundation is a non-profit 501©(3), non-partisan organization, promoting the Hindu and American ideals of understanding, tolerance and pluralism.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Were the license plates mandatory? Or were Californians able to buy the themed plate? If it is not forced, then instead of requesting a ban can't HAF ask for a theme related to Hinduism? If the State blocked that then I think there would be a case.
