Agreed Kumar sir, but what bothers me is that if everyone wants to get rid of corruption, their purpose being the same, why have so many different factions each one going about it in his own way. Why not start a kranti with a focussed, unified approach?

[/quote] Manoj ji, the problem right now is that we don't have JP like figure to unify all.

Anna does not want politicians on his bandwagon.

Ramdev even proved to be weaker than Anna; still he is going all by himself.

Actually Baba Ramdev wanted to be part of Anna's team but was elbowed out.

Reading the takleef from some quarters, I get the sense - BJP is going to win the next General Elections. America is getting ready for it - so it seems.

You heard it first from me <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Any guesses on who will be the next Prime Minister Swamy G? It is an interesting belief, it would be a coalition not an outright majority I think.

That I do not know. I was reading articles, and the Tehelka story on Narendra Modi and America was perplexing; and then I saw thing else; and my gut prediction is that BJP will come to power. <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> BJP needs to continue with its grass root work, weed out corrupt politicians from its fold. Once upon a time, the pride in the Hindu middle class was that BJP was different from INC because of ex-military personnel joining its ranks, intellectuals and educated luminaries following BJP. If BJP ends up being just another side of INC, then it is a big loss to India.

At a national level, it has to provide a vision for all Indians - based on our own Indic culture. At a political level, it should focus on uniform progress and development for all people. At a social level it should stand for strong pluralistic and free ethos of Indian culture. At global level, it has to bring in other dharmic countries into friendship.

BJP would lose out many votes on the image of being anti muslim .. specially due to its undeclared PM candidate Narendra Modi.

Although I believe INC through its hypocrisy and exploitation has done more harm to muslims than anyone else.

We should see which party has answers/capacity against inflation woes and security challenges.

Virendra

Muslims are Many votes? No it is the god-damm Hindu secularists. They are the enemy number one.

Not secularists. But pseudo-secularists.

Of late a section of the BJP leadership (particularly those who have tasted power at the Centre) has realised that to gain an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha, it is necessary to cultivate the Muslim voters. Theoretically, it is possible to gain power with the support of Hindu voters. However, that is not practical as the Hindu voters are unlikely to vote for a single party.

An average Hindu voter has several alternatives before him and is generally guided by his own self interest in deciding whom to vote. In doing so, it is not necessary that religion will play a decisive role in the decision making process. The shortcomings of the BJP so far has been that it has most of the time given more importance to the religious aspect of the Hindu voter and has based its post election results on the same. This has resulted in serious disappointment, once the result is out. It also holds good for some of the senior members of this forum, whose prediction went wide off the mark during the last general elections.

For the BJP to come to power on its own, it needs to give a totally new direction to the party and should reflect the hopes and aspirations of the younger generation of the voters. One of the important deciding factors will be the progressive programs of the political party who can deliver progress, peace and prosperity.

Take the case of Gujarat, despite the negative publicity that Shri Mody has received all these years due to the communal riots, he is bound to win the elections in his own State hands down. Why?

The people of Gujarat, belonging to all religions have seen that he has been able to bring in development and progress with no corruption scandal around. Now it is not possible to repeat the same model all over India. Take the other extreme case of Karnataka, where the BJP Government and its leaders are facing several corruption and other scandals. In this case, many Hindu voters , leave aside Muslim voters will not be happy to vote for the BJP en mass.

It is high time that the BJP supporters stop thinking in terms of Hindu votes and Muslim votes as religion alone has ceased to be the sole deciding factor at the polls. The earlier this realisation comes in the mind of the BJP supporters , it will be better for the party.

This would hold true for an average Hindu voter but not so much for an average Muslim voter. It was true in 1947 and is still true today!

Tehelka is a bandwagon for Congress. Its aim is to 'expose' corruption in BJP and NDA. Its lady editor is a sweet venom.

Anna is still trying to pose as a non-politician though such verbiage is a misnomer. BJP hasn't come to terms with who should be its leader so don't blame Baba Ramdev for staying away from the BJP. But all these people- Anna, Ramdev, RSS, VHP, Acharya Sabha and so on - will play a role in defeating the Congress and its UPA (which is bound to be deserted by Trinamool). The people might vote BJP by default but they cannot get a majority without an assertive leadership. So the next P.M. has to be one approved by Anna, Ramdev, RSS, VHP, Acharya Sabha and so on. Actually if BJP does not solve its leadership crisis it will have a demise like its predecessor Jan Sangh and will fritter into many state leaderships holding fort where they can.

Leadership is not the only issue facing the BJP. It has to bring in a change in attitude on a number of aspects. Its image needs to be changed to that of a progressive party free from the shadow of the RSS and the Hindu Rastra. The world is changing and in this age of globalisation its policies have to be in tune with the modern day realities of the world. Unfortunately, for its day to day political survival, it has to oppose any initiative that is taken by the present government. By this opposition to the new measures and policies of the Government without going into the merits of each case, it is sending a wrong message to the general public.

It opponents will use this as examples of BJP’s opposition to anything new and as such its policies are all outdated and dormant. Only today the electronic media is full of reports of BJP and other opposition parties statements regarding allowing of foreign FDI in the retail sector. They feel that it will finish off all the small general stores in the big town. In other words, it will affect the small traders engaged in general trading. On the other hand, the Congress is highlighting the fact that this measure will bring in foreign capital into the rural areas, which in turn will generate huge employment opportunities in the rural areas. They have also contended that the farmers will be getting much better return for their produce and there will be better marketing opportunity available to the ordinary farmer. The argument of the Congress party is based on the stipulation that 50% of FDI has to be for infrastructural development in the rural area.

Surprisingly, the BJP leaders are only taking in terms of the great damage that will be caused to the small traders, but they are totally silent on the other aspects of the scheme, which is of direct concern of the rural farmers and farm workers. Naturally, the Congress party will sell the positive points of the FDI scheme to the rural population and this will work to their advantage during the elections. The Congress is already ahead of the BJP with its Jawahar Rojgar Yagona and other welfare schemes. There has been reports of corruption in the implementation of the various welfare schemes. Despite these drawbacks , some sections of the rural population have definitely benefitted economically. Therefore, it has to be accepted that these welfare measures have made a direct impact on a section rural mass in this country. Naturally, at the time of elections the Congress will highlight these developments.

To forestall this advantage, the BJP has to target the rural voters, otherwise on the basis of its urban supporters it will never come anywhere near the seat of power. It cannot remain dormant with a captive group of supporters in the urban areas and yet expect to come to power in the Centre. In the present day India, this is not possible . They have to change their orientation and while criticizing the various new measures of the Government , should make balanced statements keeping in view the farm workers and the rural population in general.

Thanks!. I am interested in knowing what qualifies it as a congress bandwagon. Also, is the general bias of articles in the magazine anti-BJP / pro-Congress?
